Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 4

Gorgeous, custom, hand-built cottage tucked in the woods on a private 30 acre horse farm right in the middle of Horse Country USA. The Cottage is most suitable and comfortable for 1 to 4 adults. The Cottage is not suitable for very young children. Older, well behaved children are welcome. BonTerra Farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for a pottery kiln (Roark-Griffith kiln) in operation from mid 1800s to 1904. The farm is just 9 miles east of Denton, TX and 45 minutes north of downtown Dallas. We raise Irish Sport horses on the farm and have 2 large, friendly dogs.

There are 2 beds, one full size bed in a separate room with doors and one queen size bed set off of the living area (no doors), 2 half baths with shower between. A queen size air mattress is also available. Premium cotton, high thread count linens, a choice of down or alternative pillows, 100% cotton towels and fresh ground dark roast coffee, creamer, chocolates are always available. Delicious cinnamon rolls, citrus and fresh apples are included. Occasionally, farm fresh eggs are available if you let me know in advance.. As an option, for a nominal fee, I would be happy to shop for a specific list to stock in the cottage for your arrival. Also available are iron/board, hair dryer and 'I Forgot' baskets with various sundries. The kitchen is nicely equipped with full size fridge, stove top (NO OVEN), micro wave, blender, coffee maker, kettle and toaster. Plates, glassware, utensils and pots and pans are included. The living area has a cozy vent-less fireplace and concealed TV, DVD player, CD player and eclectic collection of music & movies. A lovely screened porch looks out into the woods and nearby creek. The 2 sets of french doors can be opened to expand the living space and enjoy the wonderful sounds of nature. There is a fire pit with plenty of firewood and a charcoal grill (bring charcoal). The farm is very wooded and secluded with a creek that runs through the length of the property. There is an abundance of bird and wildlife to enjoy as well as peace and quiet.

Our dogs, Sam and Buckshot, handle our guests with grace and reserve, but in the interest of their comfort and well being as well as the horses', we cannot accept dogs or other pets. Thank you for respecting our policy.

Since we are close to the UNT and TWU campuses, the Cottage is perfect for visiting professors or parents who prefer a more personal alternative to hotel accommodations. Romantic retreats, girls' or guys' get-togethers, de-stress escapes (mani/pedis, facials and massages can be arranged close by), base camp for adventures in hiking, biking, treasure hunting, exploring new places, restaurants and just plain getting away are all excellent reasons for booking a stay at The Cottage.

This is a private, beautiful, quiet place in the country yet not far from the hip cultural events & eateries in Denton or urban bustle of Dallas, Plano, Frisco & Lewisville.

Restaurants very nearby:

The Prairie House: BBQ, home cooking, steaks

Villa Grande: Mexican

Mom's On Main: Home cooking

About Dorian & Bruce

Bruce and I are native Texans and proud! We have been all over the world and absolutely love to travel but our roots landed us in Cross Roads, TX in 1994 where we found a very unique, one of a kind parcel of land to raise our son, raise some horses and build our dream in the country. Our farm is on the National Register of Historic Places for possessing an intact beehive kiln. Bruce is the history buff and was thrilled. We are also in the middle of Horse Country USA and that thrills me. Our son is raised now and we've scattered a dozen equine offspring across the country. Now we're focused on improving our farm and designing equestrian properties for other horse lovers. We think our place is beautiful and special and want to share it with others who would enjoy this too.

Enjoyed our stay in this rustic cabin. Quaint cabin off the beaten path. Great place to enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch.

Perfect cottage getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was exactly as advertised. The furnishings and atmosphere were most relaxing. We enjoyed our stay so much that we want to come back again soon. We recommend it to anyone needing a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. It's close enough to a nearby town that you have all the conveniences of restaurants and shopping as well. Excellent weekend.

Peaceful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

My business visits to Dallas is usually busy and surrounded by a sea of concrete roads, building s and traffic. This was a perfect peaceful getaway from from the city but close enough to anything you needed.

Charming Getaway Spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I like to plan a retreat every so often to get away for some goal-setting, dreaming, planning and relaxation. This time around we wanted something closer to home so we wouldn't spend half of our trip in the car. I ran across the Cottage at BonTerra Farm on VRBO and I'm so glad I did! This was absolutely perfect for our needs! The cottage is tucked back on some wooded acreage and feels pretty secluded, although it's still very convenient to local restaurants. I LOVED the way Dorian has decorated with various unique finds from Canton and an expert eye for detail. We had everything we needed to just hang out here at the cottage - great coffee & cinnamon rolls, books, magazines, movies, music, a comfy bed. Loved sitting by the ventless fireplace with a glass of wine and the french doors open to the screened in porch. Wish we didn't have to leave! Thanks, Dorian, for your wonderful hospitality and for sharing this treasure of a place. We will definitely return!

The cottage was simply wonderful

  • 5 of 5

The cottage looks great on-line and everything that was listed was met or exceeded. The experience in person was more than magnificent. The place was very clean and nicely decorated. It was so comfortable and relaxing we lost track of time. Bruce and Dorian were awesome hosts and we wanted for nothing. The scenery was so beautiful and the wildlife really neat to watch. The cottage was very convenient to anything and everything. Good food and shopping near by. We rented a boat for a few hours and trolled Lake Lewisville which was a lot of fun. We also went to iFly and did the indoor skydiving experience. We highly recommend this activity. It was tons of fun. Everywhere we went the folks we encountered were so friendly. We would recommend staying here to anyone and plan on returning sooner rather than later.
