|Minimum Stay||3 - 4 nights|
This cozy cottage is the perfect family get away. The kitchen is well equipped and linens and towels are provided. The home has 5 bedrooms & 1 bath. There is a queen bed & private balcony on the upstairs master and a queen bed right off the living room in the downstairs master. There is a gas fireplace in the living room for chilly evenings, a flat screen TV with a dvd player, there are also many games, books and cards for your enjoyment. It has a large yard with lots of room for little ones to play. Look out of your glass enclosed porch with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee and watch the ferries shuffle people to Mackinac Island. There is a public boat launch waiting for your boat 300 yards away. The cottage is in a perfect location for access to all the interesting points in the U.P. Only a few blocks I-75 or US-2 and only about a mile from the Mackinac Bridge. You can easily make day trips to Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks or Sault Ste. Marie, but don’t forget about all the happening in St. Ignace itself. Fireworks every Saturday (in season), movies in the park, music on the Bay, wine tasting in town, and so much more.

Lori & I have been coming up to St. Ignace for twenty two years. Being professional photographers we loved the scenery and fell in love with the people. After ten years of looking for our own little piece of heaven we stumbled upon The Love Shack.
Mark purchased this cottage in 2008
The location of the love shack is perfect. When we bought the home it had been vacant for many years. Noone saw what we saw. We have redone almost everything but as we all know the work of an older home keeps us jumping. It is close to town and all the happenings. The views are wonderful and with 4 children in our family the playground is right down the street.
Positive: Location, shopping, parks, neighborhood, quick responses from Mark (owner) whenever I had questions, clean interior, very comfortable lodging, a nice fire pit with seating all around, washer and dryer in good condition, ample supply of hot water, park within walking distance
Negative: There was only a partial roll of toilet paper and three kitchen trash bags - definitely needed more for an extended stay. Really not an issue as the store is only a few blocks away. There was a spider infestation on the exterior of house by the fire pit. Grass needed to be mowed.
We were satisfied with the lodging and had a great time in this old house. It is definitely rustic - floors are not level... but it was clean inside and is much better than a tent or RV when there is a family reunion. We would definitely stay again.
The property was very clean and the owner has amazing customer service. He answered all my emails and questions with in 15 minutes of me emailing him and was very nice. The location of the house was really nice. We had 4 small children under the age of 8 staying with us and we loved that the park was less then 5 minutes from the house and the walk to a pier was less then 5 minutes also. Lots of great restaurants near by. The house had its charm but needs some work. Floors were unlevel. Loved the balcony that overlooked the park and pier.
Our family of 7 adults had a great time at this wonderful cottage. If you are looking for a cost effective way to spend time in the UP in a great location for taking day trips to Sault Ste. Marie, Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls and Pictured Rocks, I doubt you'll be disappointed with this property. If you are a group that prefers a $150 plus hotel accommodation over a sufficient room for $75 or less, you'll probably wish you stayed elsewhere. As stated, this is an older home. Yes, the floors are uneven, the doors have a tendency to stay open (which is great for a cross breeze, but they do all stay closed when pushed shut), and there is no air conditioning. Because the windows are open, some of us were awakened by the trucks going down to the loading docks. That's OK...we had places to go and things to see, so we needed to get up and get breakfast going. The beds were comfortable; everyone slept well. The cupboards contained the cooking and serving utensils needed for basic cooking. The place was clean. The front porch and upper balcony were great places to sit back and relax. We'd rent it again in a heartbeat!!
There were many good things about our stay. The location was great - quiet, large corner lot. A grocery store is right up the road. We discovered a great park that was in walking distance from the house. It is right down the road from a freight ferry dock, so there are a lot of commercial delivery trucks that go past early in the morning, but it wasn't a bother. Overall the house was clean. The kitchen was clean and well stocked with any dishes and cooking utensils we needed. Bathroom was large, clean and plenty of towels and washcloths. Carpet and other flooring is clean and on the newer side. The windows are newer and opened and closed with ease. Furniture is what I would expect in a Michigan cottage, can't really complain about it.
However, there were some issues and just plain odd things. We didn't receive any arrival or departure instructions. We called the owner upon our arrival and received the entry code and then just winged the rest. The house was clean, but parts were cluttered. The laundry room had a basket of unfolded clean laundry. Was it left there by the previous renters? Was it the owner's? It was just odd. It is an old house and we expected some issues. The entire house is on a terrible slant and must have foundation problems. There is a heating unit of some sort in the kitchen. The top couple of vents are caked with dirt/dust. The bedding could use a major update - sheets are basically threadbare, bed coverings are old and lumpy. One of the beds had flannel sheets - in July, in a house with no AC. New linens for the beds would make a huge difference in both impression and comfort. In one of the bedrooms there were many knick knacks. There are also many personal pictures throughout the house. Oh and the spiders. Many, many huge spiders! We would have liked to open the doors to the upstairs balcony to get some air movement, but whenever we did, spiders would appear. A pest control plan would be a worthy investment.
We brought our own fans, but if there were a few provided for the visitors that don't plan ahead, it would be a nice touch!
Me and my friends had an awesome time there. There are a ton of beaches nearby, and it is a minute away from an alley of all kinds of stores. A perfect mini vacation package if you ask me!
Nice 2nd floor deck; washer and dryer available; plenty of room, convenient to attractions
Still a work in progress--unlevel floors, doors, that need work, unsightly ceilings, noisy location, limited TV package (no ESPN, CNN, FOX news), needs some paint and cleaning. No A/C
