Beautiful secluded cabin in the woods

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. The property is large enough that we had no problem keeping ourselves busy all weekend...hiking, playing in the creek, target practice, campfire, and stargazing (I highly recommend a hike or drive up to the rear of the property at night). Beautiful property and a nice size well maintained cabin, our only complaint was the mattress was very loud to the point that we didn't get a great nights sleep, other than that it was great and a new mattress and we'd be back again.

Fantastic Cabin, Amazing privacy!

  • 4 of 5

First, let me help you find the place; It's not that easy. The owner's directions are okay, but go ahead and use google maps, waze, etc. However, at the very end, you will be told to turn on "Sneakypooh" (uh huh) Rd. DON'T! Instead, go about another hundred yards West (away from the reservoir fence). Now you'll see the sign for the cabin. If you arrive in the dark, it'll will seem a little strange to turn down in there.. But you'll quickly see the gate and know you're in the right place.

Wow, this cabin is incredible. And it's so nicely tucked away on the property. The front gate will keep cars from pulling in.

All natural wood, a large gas fireplace, plenty of amenities. I rented it in early November and there was plenty of heat at night.

The place is completely quiet.

Everything was very clean and ready upon our arrival. The instructions for access to the place were easy to follow. I never saw another person during my entire stay, except when traveling into town for breakfast :)

I would just suggest a few minor 'adjustments'..

Bring your own nightlight. There are no dimmers in the cabin and every light is too bright to leave on at night. So it's either too bright or too dark. A couple cheap night lights would make a big difference.

I only used the first-floor bed nearest the bathroom. What a noisy mattress!! It really should be replaced. I suggest bringing a sleeping bag and/or your own linens. The linens I thought were getting a little old. Clean, but pretty worn. not a big deal. Try one of the other many beds, maybe they are not as 'rickety'.

Overall, I would definitely rent the place again. In fact I plan on it. I'd stay longer next time and really get in some quality quiet time.

I might also add that there is not a lot of natural light coming in the cabin. I actually prefer this, but some renters might want to be aware..

Try this cabin. You'll not regret it!

40th Anniversary getaway & deer hunting

  • 5 of 5

I surprised my hubby with a really nice cabin in the woods getaway for our 40th anniversary and made sure we could also do some deer hunting at the same time, (crossbow). It was the perfect combination vacation for both of us. The cabin was just as described, very nice, clean and had everything we needed. We were there for 8 days and only left the property to check out the state forest just a little ways up the road. Fireplace was awesome at nite w/glass of wine and in the a.m. with cup of tea before hunting. Had our family here for steak on the grill one nite and pizza on another nite. Took our little puppy with us and he totally loved to go for walks and sleep on really comfortable throw on couch.

When we got there we were greeted by a very friendly grey cat who apparently lives outside the cabin. He already had a water bowl and some play balls there. He would follow us on our walks no matter how far we walked through the woods on the trails. And he stayed on the porches at nite like a body guard. We are definitely cat and dog people so he was no trouble at all.

So in all, it was a very enjoyable trip. Saw turkeys, a lot of doe and 2-3 buck but couldn't get a shot at the buck but it was fun anyhow.

Would recommend the cabin definitely!!

Nice setting, peaceful and cozy.

  • 4 of 5

My family had a good 1 week stay at this cabin. It was very serene and we enjoyed relaxing on the porch at night. I have stayed at many VRBOs and this one was well appointed - plenty of storage for clothes, enough towels, a washer/dryer included, plenty of cookware, and so on. What I did find lacking was the owner response. While the owner did communicate with me, it would often take him days to respond to my email, and his responses would be quick and often not fully answer my questions. During our stay we had trouble turning on the heat, it was rainy and cold the majority of the time, and I emailed and called the owner but never got a response. Over all a good stay, I would recommend to a friend, but don't expect to be wowed with customer service.

Cant wait to move to Pennsylvania.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I own a farm in Wisconsin. Now that we are getting ready to settle down and retire we have been traveling around the USA looking for the right culture, environment, and surroundings. The forest, rivers, streams and culture in and around Lewisberg cant be beat. As far as the cabin we rented from Ben Courtney, it would be hard to beat as well. Everything worked. The cabin was spotless. There were no surprises. It is exactly what Mr. Courtney advertised. We seen deer and other wildlife and we able to go walking everyday right on the property. It is quiet, clean and peacefull there, and we plan to rent again next year. Just a piece of paradise, found in Pennsylvania.

Thank you,

Mel Lux
