Wonderful, unique cottage
This cottage is lovely. It is right on the edge of the sea and the views are spectacular - we even had an iceberg dotting about the bay at the side.
The cottage itself is clean, comfortable and very well equipped.
The owners very kindly collected some shopping for us, too, which was really helpful, as we arrived fairly late.
The only caution - and it would not stop me staying again - is that it is beside a working lighthouse. When it is foggy the foghorn is quite loud. It's part of being beside the lighthouse, but pack some earplugs and enjoy!
Amazing views/scenery/gannets/icebergs. Not mentioned prior to reserving was that there is a stream of visitors walking by the house to lighthouse 50 feet away. Also foghorn can go off every 20 seconds potentially all night long when fog is dense. Neither of these things detracted from our stay however. It was wonderful.
The home was everything as advertised. It was such a unique experience staying in the assistant lightkeeper's house. The weather left much to be desired (I had to keep reminding myself that this was, after all, Newfoundland), but we were blessed with 3/7 days of sunshine. There was one iceberg stationed in our view the entire week, and it actually began moving away on day 6...such a treat. We were even able to see a large one stationed off Cape Spear for a few days. Iceberg Quest Tours is a must. We were able to get up close and personal with quite a few. The location is ideal. From Ft. Amherst's vantage point, you can see St. John's Harbor, Signal Hill and Cape Spear. For the price, you cannot go wrong! Least I forget, Peter and Nicole are exceptional hosts, always available and ready to answer any questions you may have during your stay. Thank you both!
Icebergs and Rock!
We had a wonderful stay with dear friends at this cozy cottage. We awoke to blue skies every morning and looked for icebergs in the sea and eagles flying overhead- we were never disappointed! We sat out in the chairs Feeling very blessed. Thank you Peter and Nicole!
You only live once - so stay here!
We stayed in the smaller cottage on the front and it was absolutely perfect. First, you are staying on a historic site in St. John's and second, the restoration of the cottage resulted in a cozy, comfortable and well equipped home away from home.
The cottage was very roomy for the 2 of us. It could easily accommodate two couples or a family of 4. The king bed is very comfortable and the bedding is just right - not too hot and not too cold. The linens and towels are in perfect condition.
Everything you might need is provided including binoculars so you can watch the goings on with the ships coming into port.
We are not allergic to scents but appreciated that the cottage was scent free - including the towels. The cottage is very clean and beautifully maintained.
We would give it more than 5 stars and encourage you to stay here if you are able.
This cottage was beyond our expectations. Very comfortable, magnificent views of the harbour, the ocean, ships coming and going and Signal Hill. Convenient to everything - truly one of a kind adventure. Will definitely stay here again.
