I am a born Mainer and have spent my summers on Worthley Pond since 1971. My family and I love the atmosphere, summer friends, peaceful views, and sunshine. My parents watched their children (my brother and I) grow up on the beach and now have the pleasure of watching the next generation digging the same holes and probably catching the same fish!
Lori purchased this cottage in 2009
I purchased this property near our own to have the opportunity to share our treasured experience with people from around the country, to make new friends, and to give you your much needed time and space to recharge.
The majority of the camps on Worthley Pond are right on the main road. This property is unique in its quiet setting, large yard, and private beach.
If you are looking to rejuvenate, this is the place for you! So quiet and relaxing! We would get up early to enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Loved listening to the loons at night. We fished in the evening and caught a few 16" bass right off the dock! Had 3 fires on the beach. Loved every minute of our stay. It gets a bit mucky in the deeper water, so just bring water shoes and you will be fine. It is sandy in the shallow part. If you love wildlife, there was lots of that. Adorable duck families and schools of fish. So much fun for you and your family! Bring your camera!
This was easily the best week of our summer! The house was perfect for our family of 5! We loved its location on the lake. Great beachfront with a fireplace right on the beach! Lori was incredibly helpful and available if needed.
The highlight of our summer! This camp has everything you need but not overdone. The sand is soft and such a great place for littles to make sand castles. Our family enjoyed the beach from sun up to sun down! Then we enjoyed s'mores at the beach camp fire. We just loved it, and can't wait till next year!!
Best family vacation to date. The house, beach and property were exactly what we were looking for. The kids enjoyed the beach from sun up till sundown while the adults enjoyed horseshoes and relaxing evenings on the beach around the fire. The camp had everything you could ask for and more. We are already waiting to find out when we can reserve for next year. The only sad part of the trip was leaving. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy a little piece of your paradise.
This review is long overdue but I still feel the need to write it! We stayed at this cottage on Worthley Pond last August. Our two families of 3 thoroughly enjoyed a week "away from it all" at Worthley Pond. The beach was perfect for our two toddlers (age 1 and 2) and us parents enjoyed swimming and floating out in the lake while the littles napped every day! The cottage is exactly as pictured/described and other than some issues with hot water (which were addressed and fixed after figuring out the intake hose from the lake was blocked after a few storms) we had a great stay! Lori was a pleasure to deal with from booking to departure. We look forward to coming back some day.
This is a hidden gem that we are so glad to have found! The camp was super clean yet cozy and inviting. Very quaint. Everything you need and nothing you don't- truly a get away from it all experience. The property gets beautiful sun yet shade whenever you like and lots of privacy. There always seemed to be a breeze and everyone slept like a dream. We enjoyed reading, boardgames, horseshoes and badminton! I think it may be the best lot on the pond. If you like waking up to the call of a loon and a gorgeous sunrise followed by a day of restful relaxation, swimming, sunning, fishing, etc. you will be happy here. We brought Kayaks and enjoyed paddling all over the lake and jumping off the raft.. I was surprised by how beautifully surrounded by forested rolling hills (mountains). One day we kayaked and came across a loon family and then a large crane looking for lunch flew overhead! Owners are attentive and everything was immaculate. Beautiful clean white soft towels and linens are provided and we just brought six large jugs of drinking water that was more than enough. We planned meals ahead and brought our food but there is shopping 20 minutes away in Mexico at a Walmart. A really neat general store is also 10 minutes away with a great selection of craft beers, wine, essentials and homemade lunches etc. Can't say enough about what a great trip this was!
Sunday River Ski Resort in Bethel (approx. a 45 minute drive) offers zip lines and restaurants, while the greater Bethel area has a water park, Androscoggin river kayak and tubing rentals, a gem sluice, movie theater, antique shops and fine dining. If you are willing to drive, the Gray Animal Park is great for kids, as is the Portland Museum of Science. There are also lighthouse tours, shopping, and many other recreational attractions in the Portland area. Closer to home, the hiking options are endless - one of our favorite gentle hikes is to Angel Falls on Route 17, and there are segments of the Appalachian Trail crisscrossing throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Also in NH, Mount Washington is a must see to drive up or experience the cog railway. There are many waterfalls to explore and mountains to climb locally throughout the Western Maine region. Geocaching is a great way to find those off-the-beaten path gems hidden in our state. Leaf peepers need not travel at all or are in a prime place to explore the gorgeous views in any direction you choose. But, keep in mind, Worthley Pond is a destination unto itself to sit, relax, and unwind.
