The house is configured to have privacy and comfort.
It has TWO bathrooms, which is unusual for a 2 bedroom house but that makes it perfect for 2 couples traveling together .
Upon entering the foyer, there is one bedroom with a Queen bed to the right. Off the foyer to the left is a large bathroom with a soaking tub.
Up the ornate stairs , one flight ,to the main living area with kitchen, dining and living room. The couch converts to a trundle bed for additional sleeping. There is a flat screen TV and a large DVD library for entertainment.
Up another flight of stairs to the second bedroom with En-suite bathroom and queen size bed.
Opposite the bedroom is a solarium with large glass windows that can be opened to have a feeling of being outside or closed if the weather is not the best. Each bedroom has it's own separate heat/AC unit. The main salon also has a separate unit, as does the solarium. The house was totally renovated in 2006 to bring modern comfort to this 12th century dwelling but the original stone and beams remain.
The house is located in Pierrelatte, a lively market village, located in the Drome Provençal with 12,000 inhabitants. In the Village there are several restaurants and a Grand Rue with all the shops, butchers, bakers, groceries, general stores, and chocolatier and of course the traditional French bar cafes necessary for an enjoyable, easy visit. The house is located within an easy 10 minute walk to the train station.
There is swimming at a lovely beach that is less than 3 km from the house. The beach has a playground for children and a nice café. You can watch the windsurfers on the opposite side of the beach.. Market day is every Friday and occurs just steps from the front door. Local produce, cheeses, meats, and flowers can be purchased, as well as fresh seafood and herbs. In summer, lavender sweetens the air, and cherry and fig trees produce edible delicacies.
Further Details: We have 'wanderlust' and enjoy traveling the world. Our permanent home is in Florida but we fell in love with Europe when we lived in Brugge, Belgium for 2 years. We are tax professionals part of the year and spend our time traveling the rest of the year. Our 'baby' is our three kilo teacup poodle 'Marcel'.
We are an American couple who has lived abroad-—and love it! We have family living in Pierrelatte, so when the opportunity arose to purchase and restore this classic 11th century home, we jumped on it.
Our little french village is the perfect size as we can walk to everything. Pierrlatte is a Market town and always has various events happening. Our dog likes to walk to the small park at the end of our Rue and we can admire the olive trees and the lovely ancient homes along the way.
We absolutely loved Pierrelatte and your charming house! Upon leaving and going to a Paris apartment, we realized just how spoiled we were by our previous accommodations. The Paris digs were probably traditional but were awful...much too small for 3 people, no storage
or even floor space for our baggage, sofa beds only, and a poorly appointed kitchen. We all wished to be back in Provence with Jim and Yolane, who incidentally were wonderful and made our trip "authentic"!
I would love to return to Pierrelatte someday for an extended stay for painting. Will talk to you about that .
Thanks for everything and especially for your wonderful taste which gave us great comfort!
Wow, this property was exactly what we were looking for. We stayed here for 6 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home is located in the heart of Centre Ville in Pierrelatte, which makes it ideally located for walking to restaurants, shops, groceries and movies etc. And to top it off the Friday Market is only steps away from your front door. The home itself is a delight. We have stay in many vacation/rental homes during our travels the last 3 years and this one rivals them all for comfort. The kitchen is modern, highly functional and very well equipped. Their is a warm and cozy sun room and the comfortable furniture and beds complete the package. The stairs can be a touch challenging, but as we have come to discover this is the norm in France. The location also makes it easy to access all of the sites that Provence is so well known for. This is Disneyland for adults.
My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to plan a long stay in France. Provence was left on our bucket list therefore a central location was important as we wished to take advantage of day trips to explore the area. We were attracted to the house in Pierrelatte because of its' obvious historical history and location in the town, right by the imposing church and centre square. We were not disappointed. The pictures here appropriately reflect the interior and exterior of the house. The house is particularly well equipped with respect to towels, bedding and cooking utensils - all of which are important to us. As with all old buildings there were small repairs required and which were quickly attended to by Jim who is the owner's brother and who conveniently lives just around the corner. Jim and Yolaine (his lovely wife) were gracious and kind offering all sorts on information on the house and the area - thank you for your kind hospitality. Le Jardin restaurant which is also just around the corner, was absolutely lovely (recommended by Jim and Yolaine) and we enjoyed a tasty lunch there. We also spent a great deal of time at E. Leclerc in Bollene shopping for staples although there is a Carrefour and other food markets close by. Friday is Pierrelatte's market day and we can attest to this being one of the larger markets in the area with a big selection of fruits & vegetables, meat, rotisserie meats, flowers, cheeses and dairy products... all right at your doorstep. Overall, a great house, a great location and wonderful 30+ days spent in this house.... Joanne and Henry, Richmond, B.C. Canada
Kathy and Larry are the best. From our initial inquiry to check out, their service was outstanding. Our questions were answered almost immediately, we were sent information on sights near by and best of all there were welcome goodies for us when we got there. The whole process was seamless.
The unit has three floors with bedrooms on the ground floor and a bedroom on the top floor which provided privacy. The unit was immaculate and well maintained. The unit is also centrally located. We'd walk out in the morning, get pastries and walk back to the apartment. The items were still warm when we got back. The market, on Fridays, is just steps from the door. The people in town were gracious and friendly. We couldn't have been treated better. We used the unit as our "base camp" and visited wineries, saw Roman ruins (which are incredible), etc. Thank you Katrhy and Larry for all your help and the use of your great apartment.
The owner has done a fantastic job of renovating this old building into a comfortable townhouse on the edge of the historic district of Pierrelatte. The kitchen was just fine with a full-size fridge perfect for storing the results of enjoying the local street markets. Beds were comfortable. The bathrooms set up for Americans. It was great to have Jim nearby in case we needed someone who spoke English and better French than we do. The nearby hill towns and wine region were great for touring and tasting. We really enjoyed dining in the sunroom in the shadow of the old cathedral. Thanks for sharing your special home.
This special, quiet spot was just perfect for us and our daughter and son-in-law-l. Pierrelatte is a beautiful town, that offers just enough shopping:
paterisseries, nearby markets and supermarkets, in addition to cute little "necessary" shops. Wonderful tourist center to guide our day trips. But the best part was coming 'home' to a better stocked kitchen than mine, comfy beds and baths, and a cozy kitchen/living room, that also buffered our bedrooms: 1 up and 1 down. We'll call again when planning on being in that area. Thank you!
This house is charming plus very functional and extremely well stocked. Very quiet at night and within walking distance of many good restaurants. Our house manager, Jim was always available if we had a problem or needed help. The central location made visiting southern Provence very easy.
A great vacation home!
Pierrelatte is located approximately 33km from Orange. The Chauvet caves at Pont-d' Arc is due to open in the Spring of 2015. You can experience the world's oldest known cave paintings, dating back 36,000 years. Easy day trips to Avignon, UNESCO World Heritage site and the Pont Du Gard; masterpiece of ancient architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site are a must. Also go to Les Baux de Provence to experience the Carrieres de lumiere a spectacular light show. A visit to the Antique Theater in Orange is always enjoyable. Spend a day enjoying the outdoors and explore the Ardeche gorge and the beautiful caves.
