Diamond Hill House: island life and times

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 bed, 2 bath, sleeps 6

Diamond Hill House offers the potential for an experience that will refresh your sense of well-being. We know this can be true because many who have visited have told us that they have been immeasurably enriched by being in this place. It is a home and an island haven that has proven to welcome all who spend time.

The 5-acre property is gently crisscrossed with paths through the Salal, native Douglas and Grand Fir, Cedar, and Ocean Spray. The view leads to sunrise vistas toward Obstruction Island, across Eastsound inlet. Several picnic settings are situated within the acreage. BBQ? Ready in minutes, the propane grill is on the deck facing the pond, perfectly suited to prepare seared steaks, fish or to pop open fresh oysters purchased at the Farmers’ Market in Eastsound. Badminton or croquet played on what we affectionately call our “lawn spot” can be set up at a moment’s notice. You’ll see, in the photo gallery, that we’ve contrived a bit of a golfing challenge in the midst of it all with a single green in the center of the lawn spot with chip shots that challenge even the most experienced. This activity is known for its success in making serious golfers laugh heartily and non-golfers believe in themselves.

Ease of Access

And yet there is ready access to the ferry landing (7 minutes away) for coming and going or for an inter-island day trip; Orcas Village for Friday night tunes and dinner; culinary options in Eastsound, Deer Harbor and West Sound; Farmers' Market at the Village Green, and ease of access to a fine selection of locally owned and operated restaurants.

Moran State Park and Turtleback Mountain entice hikers and offer magnificent views. Orcas Athletics offers a complete weight training and pool facility in Eastsound; Rosario Resort and Spa is upscale; the Golf Course (a real 9-hole one, not our creation) is reasonably priced and open to the public. Morning slow walks are always a possibility; bicycles and kayaks can be rented. The swimming beach at Cascade Lake is very family friendly with picnic areas, dinghy or paddleboat rentals, and playground structures. Just down the road is Lake Killibrew - filled with very smart bass. :)

Sailing and whale watching

We can give you recommendations for whale watching, sail and salt-water fishing charters offered by island operators.

House and Grounds

Diamond Hill House is two-stories with living room, kitchen, free standing wood stove, master bedroom, and bath on the first floor; two bedrooms, full bath and loft library/game area on the second floor. A wrap around deck on the east and southeast face the summer sunrise and afternoon warmth. Nestled in the center of the wooded five-acres, the house, shop, orchard, and gardens share a clearing that includes a wetland, pond, and walking paths. A number of picnic and quiet sitting benches will quickly be discovered on your walk-abouts.

We are happy to answer any question you might have about the island and Diamond Hill House. Just let us know! Our shop-loft dwelling is not too far away, giving us the opportunity to assure you optimum comfort and courtesies during your stay. At this time we are offering our home to guests during the warmer seasons: spring, summer and early fall.

About Victoria and Bruce Parker

Recently retired, I enjoy being busy during the summer with gardening and keeping Diamond Hill House beautiful and ready for guests. Bruce manages the property and is the sailer in the family. Our two adult sons live in the Seattle area so we get to see them quite a bit!

Victoria and Bruce Parker purchased this house in 1992

Why Victoria and Bruce Parker chose Orcas Island

Privacy with a view, nested in mature Douglas Fir and Cedar forest with Salal undergrowth. Lots of light and windows in our home keep you connected to your surroundings. Feeling of openness.

What makes this house unique

Diamond Hill House is located in an area of Orcas Island of 5-acre+ ownerships. While providing quiet privacy we are within easy reach of the ferry landing, Eastsound, and a great bass fishing lake: Lake Killibrew. Moran State Park is a 25 minute drive and Turtleback Mountain hikes about 15 minutes. Lawn areas in front of the house allow for a game of croquet and badminton; a single green golf course challenges all comers with woods and pond shots; sunrise/set bench for coffee or champagne; walking paths within the grounds; and the stars appear within arms length. Travel to other islands, Victoria, Canada, and the mainland are simple to plan.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing Diamond Hill House with our family! It has been the perfect place to relax, explore, and enjoy nature. Driving along the beautiful canopy road that leads here, we knew we were in for a treat. The house has so many wonderful features, from the big windows that frame tree-filled views to the cozy library/game area in the loft. The back porch may have been our favorite place to watch the Sound, the hummingbirds, and the gorgeous flowers. We had fun on the lawn with croquet, golf, and badminton, not to mention the winding paths and secret gardens. Your attention to detail and your thoughtfulness is amazing - what a delight to be welcomed with brie, a breakfast basket, and best of all lavendar! We loved it all and hate to leave-

Beautiful, quiet...perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Diamond Hill house was in a word perfect! The property location was a quick drive from the Ferry landing and a beautiful 15 minute drive from Eastsound. The home was cozy and had everything one could want from extra towels, yard toys, kitchenware to make home cooked meals, an inviting deck to have a cup of coffee in the quiet morning and most of all...quiet! The property is so beautiful, we felt at home during our stay! Victoria and Bruce ( the owners) we so welcoming and generous! We were also lucky and very happy to meet Rusty and MeToo! During your visit to Orcas Island, be cautious and patient while driving, don't race around as there are many beautiful deer and you will miss a lot of scenic views!! Thank you Victoria and Bruce! We LOVED our stay!!

Owner's Response: Celebrating a birthday was part of this family's stay - what a good idea! Fun to exchange some gardening ideas and experiences with Wyoming mom and special hiking trails with the adventurers. We're so pleased that your Orcas time at Diamond Hill House was all that you'd hoped - come back some day! V&B

Absolutely the BEST!!

  • 5 of 5

It was our favorite B&B of all times! Owners, Victoria and Bruce Parker, were "hands on" with all details and amenities. Without a doubt, they are a first class act who knows what R&R means! It was the most peaceful setting and relaxing environment that we have ever experienced. The inn was clean, comfortable and decorated to a tee to make you feel right at home. Full kitchen, comfortable beds, real wood stove for heat if needed. The grounds were manicured with beautiful plants, flowers, and several gardens throughout the property. Conveniently located near the ferry docks and not to far from the local shops and restaurants. Before our arrival, we had high expectations. Needless to say, they were exceeded! We will definitely be back sooner than later!

Warmest regards,

Tony and Sonja Smith

Heaven on earth!

Victoria and Bruce have created and wonderful oasis that welcomes you instantly. It was the perfect spot for us to reunite with our daughters, son-in-law and two granddaughters. We each had private spaces and lots of grounds to roam around, but also enjoyed the family room -open kitchen feeling where we spent a lot of time. The home is well stocked and had everything we needed. The home and grounds are full of whimsy and my 8 year old granddaughter and I loved the scavenger hunt and playing badminton. Victoria and Bruce are so kind and gave us lots of privacy. My husband and I hope to return someday for a longer stay. Thanks so much!

Diamond Hill House stay - Orcas Island - A serene, lovely getaway in the gorgeous San Juan Islands

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently had the good fortune to stay at Diamond Hill House on Orcas Island. What a beautiful and peaceful place to escape the city and chill for a few days!

The house is beautiful, surrounded by acres of old growth forest, meadows, ponds and views out to Eastsound. It is in the middle of a forest, where wildlife abounds and the only noise you hear is the wind in the trees and the song of birds.

Diamond Hill House proprietors, Victoria and Bruce Parker, are wonderful and gracious hosts, and will go the extra mile to make your stay truly special.

We couldn't have asked for a better place for our family to spend a few days on Orcas Island, and hope to be back next year!

Beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

The property is beautiful. It was nice to walk around in the early in the morning, or anytime really. There was a lot to explore and Victoria is so sweet about making you feel welcome to explore the property, and go in the gardens. The badminton net was a lot of fun in the evenings and the propane grill on the patio was very nice too! There was even a friendly deer we saw at night and in the morning. Victoria and Bruce were so kind! The house was cozy and clean. We went, at the recommendation of Victoria, on Eclipse whale watching tour and saw 2 pods-15 whales in all! She also drew us a map of the property, and good places to bike nearby. We didn't venture onto the main road because there wasn't a shoulder to ride on. The island is small so you can easily drive around in less than an hour. I would recommend this property to friends!

Owner's Response: OH! and their young fellow was very entertain with a little bucket of golf balls to roll and toss and put in and out of the bucket. We loved hearing about that from the family. Made us smile as we remembered our youngsters growing up here. Thank you for the praise - come back! V&B
