Good two people
Argh, I hate leaving negative reviews... I really do.
We are a family of 4, mom, dad, 3 year old and 8 month old. It became frustrating to logistically live in the space while kids napped. We tried every which way! I should have known better, but we took a chance last minute and the space was simply too small for us. The top floor bedroom is a loft like space, small with slanted ceilings that is open to the living area below. There is a bedroom downstairs with two twin beds, one of which was broken and if you sat on the edge it flipped over. Be careful! All of the beds were uncomfortable.
We were not able to drop in kayaks in marsh as the water was always too low.
There were plenty of dishes, glassware, etc, but after your first meal the ants really came out in droves. The water had a certain smell and was brown which concerned me. We never drank it but I didn't even cook with it. The house was extremely dusty and we all couldn't stop sneezing from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. I placed some shopping bags on a higher surface and a pile of dust came crashing down. There are also many spiders, prepare to get bit a couple of times. (I obviously understand this is not the owners fault!) The house needs a little love, and at this price point we probably won't return but kick in a little more for a larger, more updated space when we return to Wellfleet next year. It's fine for two people in my opinion. The cottage to the left of this place appeared much better taken care of and at the same price point.
The location was fine (if maybe a little close to 6, are able to hear the traffic), you are right near the rail trail and many beaches and town center after a short drive. Newcombe Hollow, Duck Harbor, Powers landing and Gull Pond were the ones we visited on this visit to Wellfleet.
Sorry for the negative-ish review (but if you are like me, these are the things I wish i'd known before we spent the money) :(
Donna, we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay, although we are surprised with many of your comments. We love our home and sharing it with guests. I wish you had reached out to us during your stay, so we could have made your time at the Cottage more enjoyable. Over the course of five years and hundreds of guests, we have only received compliments on the house, its cleanliness, the setting, and the vacations it has provided...
To future guests, we can assure you a great stay. Our water is most certainly clean. As part of a coastal conservation area our drinking water is regularly assessed and exceeds drinking water standards. And, yes, the waterfront is great and the kayaks are 100% usable/amazing, but as tidal bay, water levels do change (every 6 hours!)--Tips for enjoying a paddle are on the fridge! We are here to help you and happy to answer any questions you might have about our home.
Perfect location for an Old Cape Cod vacation
Located right on Drummer Cove. The front deck is just right for cocktails and water view dinner.
Great location and beautiful view!
We had a great stay at the cabin, using it as a base from which to enjoy all that welfleet has to offer (ponds, ocean beaches, bay, restaurants). Aaron was super-responsive to all questions and easy to communicate with. The view was fantastic and the central welfleet location was perfect.
We were able to sleep comfortably with 2 adults and 2 kids, but did wonder if it might be a better place to stay with just adults or maybe 2 adults and one child. The neighbors were close and we worried about disturbing them with our early morning noise, and the kyaks were really for adults only (single kayaks with no child vests). This was our fault for not asking about before hand. Really the cabin was true to its advertising.
The only surprise for us was that we should have brought all cooking supplies (including basics like oil and vinegar) and although there is a French press coffee maker (which we loved) there is no grinder or regular coffee maker (or at least not one that we could find). Small inconvenience in an otherwise very enjoyable stay.
Nice view, great location to explore the outer cape with many beaches, restaurants and shops nearby. Close to bike trail.
wonderful escape in the off-season!
We arrived during an intense rainstorm that held on well into Saturday. It didn't matter- the view of the cove from inside this adorable, well-furnished, perfectly designed cozy cottage was spectacular- in high and low tides. What we love about coming to the cape in the off-season is the lack of crowds, which we doubly appreciated, given the closeness of other properties.
Our favorite aspect of this cottage has to be the view from the bedroom upstairs. Such a wonderful place to stay. THANK YOU!
Comfortable for two
We enjoyed the cottage
