While we live in Los Angeles with our two kids, we are both East Coasters who grew up with four seasons. Even though the weather in LA leaves so little to complain about, we regretted that our children had never enjoyed a single snow day. So we started looking for a cabin in the mountains several years ago!

We were looking for an escape from the city where our family could experience nature and all its seasons. We finally found everything we wanted, and more, at Pine Cone Alley!

We looked for a montain cabin for years. Ultimately, we realized that Big Bear just has so much more to offer than anywhere else.. as It truely is a year round community, with friendly people.

I drove up to see Pine Cone Alley the day it came on the market and the moment I walked through the front door I knew we had finally found the place for us. We were in escrow by mid-week.

I was a bit nervous, as my wife hadn't seen the place yet... but when she finally walked through the door into the great room, her face lit up, and I breathed a huge sigh of relief!

We recently added the 3/4 bathroom and the laundry room off the loft above. It was a great addition, as it enhances the functionality of the cabin but without sacrificing any of the original charm... or that fantastic loft for the kids!

We work with Dean and Stacy at Farrar Vacation Rentals because they have been full time residents in Big Bear for over 15 years... they love it up here. Besides running the vacation rental management business with Stacy, Dean also has a successful contractor business in Big Bear. In fact, we hired him to add the bathroom and laundry rooms upstairs, and he did such a great job for us on that, we didn't hesitate when it came time to choose a management company. We're happy they are there for us, with 'boots on the ground' , they are right up the street shoauld any of our guests need anything at all.

Wonderful curb appeal with original Big Bear cabin charm. Fantastic location, with a woodsy, private lot, yet walking distance to shops and restaurants. Cozy mountain comfort, a fabulous detached recreation room, and all the modern necessities... including newly added central AC and forced air heat!

Great place, great location

The house was perfect for 2 families and a dog. It's close to grocery stores and town and Snow Summit and the lake are only a few minutes away. Very cozy and plenty of beds. The game room was a huge hit with both the kids and parents. Will definitely be back.

Very clean and comfy, modern cabin was perfect!

This wonderful place has all the look and feel of a story book mountain cabin, but with all the modern conveniences you could want. I'm so glad we found such a great place to stay -- it made our week. Everything was clean and new, with plenty of heat, bathrooms, beds, and a super fun game room too. We were able to appreciate really being in a quiet cabin, while also having all the conveniences of being so close to everything we wanted to do and see in Big Bear.

I would absolutely recommend this rental to friends and family. We are definitely coming back up to enjoy a summer week or weekend in Big Bear, and, with any luck, stay at the very same cabin.

RENTERS BEWARE

We have been completely scammed by this property management and owner for allegations that are completely false.

The owner withheld our entire deposit without any proof and/ or receipts which we are entitled to by the law. Homeaway did not honor the “book with confidence guarantee” and did not provide any rationale.

If any prior guests are reading this that had issues with the futon during their stay please come forward, unfortunately we are the ones that had to pay for something we did not do. We did not use or touch this futon. We were also accused of stains on the carpet which were present when we arrived but disregarded since it was a pet friendly house. If a prior tenant (preferably during the summer 2017) is reading this, please come forward to support us on these true claims.

I know what you might be thinking as you see this negative review. The same thing I would, "there is always that one person that has something negative to say.” I only write reviews when I have something positive to say, but this cannot go without notice.

We are a very responsible, reliable, honest couple with graduate level degrees and professional careers, however we learned through this process we are also a bit naive and too trusting of others. Please let our story be a lesson for you. Take photos of EVERYTHING and EVERYWHERE (a video would be best) even if you do not intend to use or go into a room; we should have known better.

It’s very unfortunate that you can easily be taken advantage of. Because we are innocent, we can pursue this further, but have decided to use our story to help others rather than focus anymore energy on this owner who is completely in the wrong. This isn’t about money to us, it’s about our integrity and being wrongfully accused and taken advantage of. I hope this helps someone looking to rent whether it be this place or any others, please be careful out there and have a safe blessed holiday season.

Owner's Response: We make no apologies, what-so-ever. You trashed our cabin, and your slanderous character assassination merits an appropriate response: 1)After three years on HomeAway, you are the first renters who were so disrespectful and destructive of our property that we had to use the deposit to make repairs. 2)After investigating your complaint, HomeAway found that we acted appropriately in using your deposit to repair your damages. They verified we had properly notified you - in writing and in a timely manner with the appropriate receipts via this site. 3)Your claim of not getting receipts is patently false. Both verified receipts, dated 8/31 were forwarded to you at 11:10 AM on September 1… right after your stay. (FYI… Those receipts and that email are still posted on HomeAway.) 4)The carpets were professionally steam cleaned, deodorized and sanitized, as necessary to remove the dozens of unknown stains left on every carpet. 5)You destroyed our futon. Worse, you used packing tape to "fix" the completely split/splinterd support beam underneath, and gerry-rigged the sofa-back in an upright position. Had our next renters unknowingly sat on it, they would have gone flat on their back and possibly even been injured, though that was of clearly of no concern to you. Time stamped futon pictures submitted. 6)You said no one even went up into the loft area, and you only set foot in the rec room once… “to take pix of what the rec room looked like”. These are just two more blatant un-truths. We submitted photos of all three heavily used bathrooms – including both the loft and the rec room bathrooms. Pix show well used trash cans – including completely used TP rolls, and open complimentary soap bars on the sinks, and sinks well used. Clearly someone was in the loft and rec room during your stay. 7)Over the past three years, we have received 26 extremely positive reviews for our cabin and the way our manager, Stacy, treats all of our guests. Not one single other negative review. 8) HA doesn’t allow us to post pix here, but we are very happy to share the photos with any/all renters if they are concerned - or just interested. 9)To quote you: “This isn’t about money to us, it’s about our integrity and being wrongfully accused...” On this point we echo your sentiment, and would only add that your integrity is on display for all to see.

Very cozy - comfortable - full of charm!

Our experience with this property was wonderful. The property manager was completely available for all of our questions. The location is ideal - easy access to the village, slopes, groceries, Starbucks, and pharmacy. Super comfortable sleeping. Game room was really fantastic!!!! Would definitely rent there again if we were going to be in the area.

Relaxing weekend in Big Bear!

We really enjoyed staying at this home in Big Bear! The house has everything you need and we loved hanging out in the game room. Shops and Starbucks are within walking distance which is always a plus for us. It is located in a very quiet neighborhood. Check in and out are very easy and communication with Stacy was great!
