Originally from Sonora, California. My mother lived in Hawaii for the first several years of my life and I have traveled throughout the islands for vacation for many years. Finally moved to Oahu this past year after my son graduated from High School and bought out dream home, a beachfront Villa located in Waialua outside of Historic Haleiwa town. This is a beautiful home and truly is our one of a kind beach bungalow :)
Lanny Morton purchased this villa in 2011
With an astonishing view of the ocean and premier location in Waialua this was just too good to pass up. This home was built originally by owner and the Bali style woodwork is truly breathtaking. All the wood was imported to the island and milled right downstairs in the garage, take a close look and appreciate the love and time put into the finer details of this beautiful home.
Not only is this property beachfront, it is very secluded (No Neighbors on one side). Enjoy peace and serenity while you escape in the seclusion of the North Shore and truly partake in the Aloha experience.
This was our first VRBO rental. And I must say it surpassed our expectations. It was large, comfy, had an absolutely beautiful view of the ocean. Nothing like falling asleep to the sound of the waves. I would get up a few hours before everyone else and sit on the deck and watch the sun rise, so peaceful and relaxing. what a great way to start every morning. In the evening we'd set on the deck and watch the beautiful sunsets. I loved the creepy cemetery that is within walking distance. Spent several hours walking through it. (my husband thinks its weird too). perfect location to everything. Was great to cook our own meals versus having to go out and eat. Stopped at Costco/Wal-Mart on the way there from the airport and picked up everything we needed. It was whale migration season and you could see them from the deck. and plenty of turtles. Looking forward to renting the one next door in July.
We had been discussing spending a quiet Christmas in Hawaii for a while. We wanted a quiet scenic place on the beach with a deck where we could spend time relaxing and having family meals. The Bali Style home was perfect, the views are fantastic everyday from both the living area and master bedroom. Every morning and evening we spent on the deck enjoying family time, meals, and the beautiful views (just like in the pictures).
The property has bikes and is on the beach which we walked and swam in every morning and evening. What we enjoyed best about this home is the kitchen, living area, and deck are all on the same floor so our family was always together. The location was perfect, secluded enough to enjoy a quite vacation and close enough to the wonderful small historic town of Haliewa which is loaded with terrific food trucks.
We loved the North shore, we only left to attend a Luau and visit Pearl Harbor, other than that we did not want to leave the North shore it was perfect! This vacation and the house was perfect, we plan to return....
Our family had been planning a Hawaii vacation for years. It was to be THE vacation. We knew that where we stayed would make up a big part of our experience. We didn't want big city or the tourist trap feel, so Waikiki and Honolulu were out. A house for 6...no, a beach house for 6, that would be awesome. So the search was on. When we found "Double Rainbow", it seemed like there was a mistake. A rental this nice, on the beach? Not possible, but there it was. We booked it right then.
We arrived in Honolulu, drove to the North Shore, and walked into "our house" for the week. AMAZING! The views from the house, the waves singing us to sleep every night, and the location were perfect. We wanted a quiet place where our family could retreat to after a day of exploring or sightseeing or shopping or whatever. We could wake up every morning and walk along the beach as the sun came up over the mountains. We could make breakfast there in a great kitchen or drive 5 minutes to Haleiwa Cafe for Belgian waffles. We would open up the sliding glass doors to our bedroom and enjoy the sun and ocean breeze on our lanai. We would eat lunch or dinner on the lanai on the main floor as the ocean waves crashed on the beach less than 100 feet away. Every beach in Hawaii is public, but if 6 people walked across our beach in a day that was a record.
The house is great for families. 2 bedrooms, 3 full baths, pull out couch, futon, and 2 daybeds. Plenty of hot water, even after 6 showers, a load of laundry, and the dishwasher. A big stove, big refrigerator, and wine fridge held everything we needed for the week. The wifi was great for the kids (and parents). We used the washer and dryer more than we thought we would. No need to wait for towels and swimsuits to dry out.
Don't let the location of being on the North Shore scare you away. The waves outside the house are small due to the reefs hundreds of yards off shore. Also, Haleiwa Beach is sheltered, so my boys learned to surf on the smaller waves, as my wife and daughter looked for turtles while snorkeling. Haleiwa, Sunset Beach, Polynesian Cultural Center, and Turtle Bay are all on the North Shore area and are all awesome.
Hawaii was amazing, the house was fantastic, and the memories will last forever. This house was a large part of making this trip worth every penny. We hope to return one day and staying here again will be part of that.
P.S. One minor issue- more bath towels. Homeowner had towels there the next day. Thank you.
This property is by far one of the most interesting that we have rented in 5 years. We travel twice a year on the North Shore and plan to return in the spring.
The housekeper was very efficient when needed.
The fact that no one has written a review of this property in more than a year should have been a tipoff that this VRBO wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
1 We found spoiling food in the refrigerator, dusty closets and cabinets, plus the cleaning service failed to sweep up dead cockroaches on the kitchen floor, downstairs bathroom and living room.
2. There were no dishtowels, dishcloths, potholders, pens, paper, scissors, a broom or a dustpan in the unit. When I texted the owner about it he texted back telling us to go buy those items and send him the bill – as if that’s what we came to Hawaii for, to shop for the owner.
3. The kitchenware and utensils were marginal - the owner needs to spend a few dollars at Target and properly equip the unit.
4. The dishwasher barely cleans the dishes.
5. The bicycle tires were either flat or low, the bicycle pump didn’t work properly and there were no tools to adjust the seats or handlebars making the bikes useless to us.
6. The unit has just two very short beach chairs (the seat fabric is about 6 inches off the ground) for sitting outside.
7. The mattress in the master bedroom is terrible, it’s old and doesn’t fit the bed frame making it nearly impossible to change the sheets, which were torn and stained, ugh!
8. It’s the only unit in the neighborhood without animal proof garbage cans. Within five minutes of putting the garbage out either feral cats or someone’s dog will get into it.
9. The owner doesn’t provide a key or a garage door opener so you must use the outdoor keypad. Why the owner doesn’t just require a specific deposit for the garage door opener and leave it in the unit is a mystery to me.
10. Because the owner does not provide keys, the only way into the unit is thru the garage. But as the owner states in his instructions, “…electrical issues occur all the time,” so if the electricity goes out so does the electric garage door leaving the guest no way to get back into the unit—not a well thought out situation.
11. TV signal is maddeningly intermittent and with no DVD player in order to watch TV at night we had to stream with my laptop (until the Internet went out.) So we tried calling the owner when we lost the Internet, but he refused to take our calls. We traded 31 texts trying to get him to contact the Internet provider when a simple phone call could have done it in two minutes. 11 hours later we got the Internet back.
We would NEVER come back to this unit
This is a beautiful house in a gorgeous location. From the booking to our check out we had a great experience in working with the owners. The views and tranquility of the home and its location are indescribable.
We will definitely return
Located in Waialua right outside of historic Haleiwa town, take a visit into town to enjoy the fresh catch of the day or do some shopping around the historic surf town. Head up the Northern coastline towards Turtle Bay Resort and hit world famous beaches along the way such as Bonzai Pipeline or Sunset Beach.

No Security Deposit. We do a $69 Insurance fee instead, I hate it they keep my money for a month or two, then nickel and dime me for something stupid, we don't do that.
If you are an "A-Hole", please rent somewhere else. We only want fun, cool people. If you are looking for a place to party and are a drunk idiot, go to Waikiki, it's full of people like you, you will love it.
