About Phil and Sally
We have one son and two small dogs. Our son is old enough he is on his own, but our dogs miss us too much when we travel and we decided maybe they need some time away as well. For years we traveled in the Americas when we could get away from work. From Panama to the States we have found many great places, but ended up in Puerto Vallarta. We just fell in love with the community. Direct flights from most locations in US and Canada help to. We hope to be in Puerto Vallarta at least a few months of every year to relax, make new friends and learn the language. Knowing the meaning of cerveza is not enough anymore. =)
Phil and Sally purchased this House in 2014
Why Phil and Sally chose Benito Juárez
We purchased this house early in 2014 after looking for about 2 months. Our criteria was very strict and we had many boxes to check off. Old Town area was a must as we loved the vibe and nearness to most attractions. Daily strolls are very important to us. As well, we wanted a place that was quiet and gave us security but was designed to give an open air living feel. We wanted that indoor/outdoor feel 24 hours a day and this was the place. After all, you come for the beautiful weather and this place makes your feel like you are outside even when inside. As often my vacations are working vacations, this place has plenty of room to discreetly set up an office and very good internet. My wife has small dogs and we wish to travel with them more. With the secure front court yard, we are able to walk them at night with no issues. The previous owners and builders were meticulous in the construction and this home is hard to describe in words. We just fell in love with the open layout and the serious comfort it entails.
What makes this House unique
Puerto Vallarta and in particular, the Romantic Zone is simply a vibrant place year around. We traveled many locations in the Americas and fell in love with this part of the world. The city is large enough that it has all the amenities you could want but small enough that it is very personable. We always feel safe in any location whether we are walking or driving and quaint restaurants and shops are everywhere. For those that love the ocean, beaches of every size and style litter the coast. A beautiful bay and marina mean fishing and charters are available year round. We think you will love it as there is something for people of all ages. Nearness to the Romantic zone was important but we are far enough away to avoid the noise. This place is a quiet oasis. Local markets spring up all the time and Mexican markets are close by. Impromptu parades and events happen year around. If you are not familiar with Puerto Vallarta, it also hosts very modern amenities like Wall Mart, Sams Club, and Costco to name a few. They are not in Old Town but a short 10-15 minute ride away. A short walk away you can take a local bus for 75 cents to almost any location. Taxis will pick you up right at the house if you call or easier yet, walk a couple of blocks and typically one will show up within a minute. Please note this house is about 3 blocks off the main road of Calle Basilio Badillo where most of the taxis operate 24 hours a day.

I throughly enjoyed this house. I also appreciate the good quality pots, pans, cooking utensils and dishes that were available as we took advantage of the nearby market to plan our meals for the day. Yes, this house is on a steep hill and even getting into the house itself can be difficult if anyone has a mobility issue. I took on the challenge of that hill to get my daily exercise. The pool area is nice and was maintained by the maintenance man twice a week, however the view is partially obstructed as their neighbors built a ugly sun deck hut, about a week before we arrived and they owners were very apologetic about it and stated to us that they will probably have to get a lawyer involved. Even with that issue, I still would rent this house again, I love the fact that’s in a authentic Mexican neighborhood, close to produce and meat markets, and most importantly the owners are nice and quickly answered any questions that I had.
Hill Top Villa
Our group really enjoyed our stay here! The home is very comfortable inside and out. It is large enough to afford everyone privacy if wanted. We spent a great deal of time in the pool area. We enjoyed seeing lizards, hawks and many species of birds on nearby rooftops and trees. The house is walking distance to all the places we like to visit while in PV and Uber or taxis to get back up the hill are abundant and readily available. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this property to other travelers.
Great home and fantastic owners
This house is great. You need to know PV and the location before you book. The home is on a steep hill which provides sweeping views, but not for anyone out of shape. Uber is available. We really enjoyed ourselves and very much appreciate the owners stopping by to greet us. Thanks!
Beautiful home in residential PV
We stayed Jan 26- Feb 12, 2019. Just 2 of us.
Lovely self contained home on 3 levels. Modern upscale decor, great functional kitchen, large bathrooms, good towels and linens.
Just as described in ad and photos.
The reason we subtract a star is the home is framed by taller buildings on either side and that, combined with the house’s angle, resulted in no sun at all on any of the back deck or pool during our entire stay.
The area is fun and quickly becoming trendy. The hill is steep but manageable.
There is really no view except from the top bedroom floor.
A great home for families or up to 3 couples.
Hosts were attentive and lovely to work with.
Spacious. Clean. Modern
Great hosts. Lots of space. View from the master was spectacular. Having a washer/drier was super handy. Wifi was fast and reliable. Water was UV filtered and safe. Neighbourhood was quiet with exception of lots of roosters crowing constantly from 5am-dusk this didn’t effect the master bedroom but was an annoyance to the 2 other rooms.
Charming House...But Neighborhood Not So Much
The house itself is as advertised. The house is very comfortable. The pool is nice. Plenty of space if you have a larger family. The house has all the amenities you need to make you feel at home. However, the house is next door to a boutique hotel, Hotelito Rolando. We stayed from a Wednesday to the following Wednesday, and whoever rented out the hotel next door during the weekend decided to blast music every night even though these houses are supposed to be in a residential neighborhood. On Sunday night the people next door hired a LIVE BAND to play at 12:30 in the morning. We called the police to file a noise complaint but they did nothing, so we had to rent a hotel room about half a mile down the road. I contacted the owner of the boutique hotel next door, and he apologized, but so far neither he nor the owners of this house have offered to refund us the money we had to spend on a separate hotel on Sunday night because of a live band playing all hours of the night. We are severely disappointed because we picked this house and spent good money to rent this house as much for the quiet neighborhood it was supposed to be in as well as for the house itself. If you are staying at this house for any length of time and you are looking for somewhere quiet to stay, beware. Depending on who is renting out the little hotel next door, you could be in for a surprise you were not expecting or planning for.
Casa Marea Solar is located in the historical and vibrant downtown area of Puerto Vallarta sometimes known as the Romantic Zone. And for good reason. Within blocks are world class restaurants, a vibrant board walk or as known locally, the Malecon, and the famous Los Muertos beach. This beautifully styled and modern house is ideally situated in a quiet area but is only minutes away by foot or taxi from all the activities. Enjoy the local Mexican markets with its fresh fish caught only that morning or just relax and watch the sunset over the ocean from your room. Puerto Vallarta has just simple too many attractions to list.
