Set in a superb location above Plazac, with wooded valleys to the east and west, La Bourelie caters for groups of up to nine. It is ideal for both families and couples who want to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lovely Perigord Noir countryside and discover all the local holiday and sight seeing activities: the Lascaux Caves, Les Eyzies, the Rivesr Dordogne and Vezere ... all within driving distance of the house.
After a busy day, the return home and the drive down the private lane leads you to your own secluded holiday haven. There are several acres of land to explore, with a network of footpaths and lanes, all starting from the house - no need to get in the car. The area is excellent for cycling, walking and canoeing, with riverside and lake beaches for some wild swimming and fishing.
The house faces south east and is bathed in sunshine throughout the day. Deer and wild boar roam the valleys that skirt the property and can often be seen from the house grazing the fields during the sunset hours.
My husband and I just spent 28 days at La Bourelie. We had a truly wonderful experience at La Bourelie and enthusiastically recommend it.
The house is located on a hilltop with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside in all directions. You really feel you are in a magical place.
The house is exceptionally warm and welcoming, filled with sunlight from the multitude of windows and French doors. The style of the house is traditional with exposed stone walls and wooden beams but all bathrooms and equipment are very modern. It is immaculately clean, fully decorated and completely equipped with everything you need to make your stay extremely comfortable. While giving you the feel of a traditional French country kitchen, all the appliances are contemporary. There is a very generous and varied supply of plates, utensils and cookware. The master bedroom and en suite modern bathroom with a great walk- in shower are both very large with high quality linens and towels.
Our host Philip lives nearby and was always available in case he was needed but actually the house was so well equipped, we had no problems of any kind. Philip was very friendly and helpful with information about the area while affording us complete privacy.
We truly enjoyed our neighboring herd of beautiful Limousine cows, the deer that greeted us in the mornings and the fig tree in the backyard filled with delicious ripe fruit.
We dream about our afternoons on the sun-filled back terrace with our goose rillettes and Bergerac wine while gazing out at the magnificent wooded hills and clouds.

The house is certainly attractive but we were a party of 7 ( 2 males and 5 females) and, other than the bedroom on the ground floor (there were 7 coat hangers in this room), there were no other hangers, nowhere to hang clothes, no clothes rack. The twin room was very small and really only suitable for children. Again , the bedroom on the ground floor was the only room with a mirror. The bedroom off the mezzanine was like an oven, no air conditioning and not even a fan available (the temperatures were averaging 34 degrees) and no insect screen on the window. The terrace is beautiful and a perfect sun trap but there were no sun loungers. We sat in the sun on wooden dining chairs. There was no sun umbrella for the outside table and a very tired patio set near the front door, covered in bird lime and not usable. There were cobwebs and dust around the windows, which were also dirty. The toilet on the ground floor was not very clean. The kitchen was fairly well equipped although there was no coffee maker or cafetiere - just an old 2-4 cup espresso pot - not suitable for 7 people and no oven gloves. Towels and bed linen were good quality although there were only towels set out for 6 people when we arrived. We were able to find other towels for the 7th person. There was no welcome basket or bottle of wine (as advertised on your website). To his credit, Mr. Stevens ( the manager of the property) did find us one coat rack and brought 7 more hangers and a cafetiere.
We are four retired educators who planned to explore the Dordogne river valley. La Bourelie served as an awesome home base for our explorations. The house exceeded our expectations based on what we saw and read on line. It was spacious, well decorated, extremely comfortable, well equipped, and could easily accommodate up to 8 people. It's location allowed us easy access to explore the major towns and attractions in the Dordogne region.
If we ever decide to return to this area we would make La Bourelie our home base. Thank you for a great adventure!!

We loved our week at this lovely country home. So peaceful and quiet, the only sound you hear is the occasional airplane humming overhead at 30,000 feet... The setting is spectacular with views across the valley and a small herd of cattle nearby. The house is spacious and well cared for. The bedrooms are two in the front and two in the back, so you can have privacy. The kitchen was well equipped for our purposes and we enjoyed our mornings, afternoon tea and happy hour/dinner on the terrace, watching the birds or the sun set.
Our hosts lived nearby and were very friendly and helpful in getting us set up. They loaned us a DVD of Rick Stein's French Odyssey, cooking his way along the Canal du Midi. This became our evening entertainment and we very much enjoyed it!!
We found a nice supermarket and a terrific bakery/patisserie in Rouffignac. The nearest Intermarche is near Montignac. Our favorite restaurants were Le Puits Fleuri (lunch) outside of Rouffignac and in Moustier the Napoleonnienne. Don't miss the stars on a clear night - being away from the city lights, it is a brilliant display.
At the end of the week, we did not want to leave...
