Because we live in Florida we were looking for a small town to relax in with cool temperatures year round. We scouted out 3 different locations in North Carolina and Tennessee. We visited all three while on vacation one year and picked this one, our favorite.
We were interested in finding property in an elevation that would yield cool temperatures in the summer. This property is located 3,600'. It's perfect, not too high in case there is snow in the winter and high enough to remain cool in the summer. We especially enjoy our bird feeders on the balcony and the mountain views of the Black Mountains from the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms.
I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful place the weekend of November 4, 2016 for my birthday. This was my first time visiting the mountains and the Kroon's made sure it was an experience I'd never forget. Mr. Kroon was generous enough to take me on a tour through the mountains so that I could see how beautiful they really were. I will definitely be returning with my family in the near furture.
This was an amazing vacation. The view is absolutely stunning, especially at sunrise as it rises right in front of you. We live in Asheville so the mountains aren't exactly a new experience for us but the seclusion definitely was. The home is very clean and updated. There's plenty of wild life to watch from the porch too. Dozens of hummingbirds kept us entertained for the entire stay. There's an Ingles about 10 minutes away and also a small town with a couple restaurants. Snap Dragon was delicious, great service too. There was a little mishap with some construction noise the first morning we were there but Gail handled it quite swiftly and they didn't return until we were gone. Things happen but its how you fix it that really matters. Thank you so much for everything! We plan on making this a yearly event.
We loved the cabin. It was just perfect. We had everything we needed and such beautiful sunrises. We also loved the town of Burnsville. People were very friendly. We will be planning to go back soon.
My husband and I have been staying in the two bedroom roundhouse for at least 13 years now. We always stay at Thanksgiving, and have only missed a couple of summers, and most recently we began going up for spring break for the last three years. The home is always clean and decorated beautifully to me. The fireplace is also wonderful during winter months. I love to pull the big chair up in front of it and snuggle in with a good book. I love sitting there and watching the snow fall during the winter months. Even at our age we have taken advantage of the hills around the homes and done a little sledding. The weather is great up on the mountain even in the summer time. When we were there recently, the last week in July, it was so comfortable with a cool breeze and low humidity. We hated going home to Florida's heat.
The thing we love most about the homes is the quietness that surrounds the area, and the beauty of nature all around us. As I read the other reviews it brought back memories of the Blue Ridge Mountains and driving through it, along with visiting the caverns and the many other places. Now we just enjoy going up to rest and relax, to renew our spirits for a time until we can come back again. Just recently Gail mentioned to us that she was afraid we would become board with coming up and staying in the roundhouse because we have done it for so long. I assured her that there was no place we would rather be then there except for a Disney a Cruise, but those do not happen no where near as often as our trips to the round house. We are looking forward even now to Thanksgiving so that we can go back, then we will be looking forward to spring break and another trip up, and don't forget a trip during the summer. There is always things to find to do. Even visiting with the locals is great. We especially love to visit Cristy's Crapft Shop there on Pensacola, she knows all about the area and has great tales to share about the area, not to mention her crafts that I love to buy. Cristy has become a great friend over the years.
Anyone visiting in any of Gail's homes there on the mountain will love it. The homes are beautiful and Gail is wonderful and always willing to help in any way she can. we are so thankful she has the homes available, it is like a home away from home for us. Even children and teens we have seen in the homes while we are there seem to really enjoy it.
What a great two weeks! We rented the 2 bedroom unit and we were very comfortable. The large deck is a great place to sit and read a book and enjoy the mountain views. With the full wall of windows - the view is equally wonderful on the inside! Kitchen is well stocked with utensils. Burnsville is centrally located and an easy drive to Linville Falls, Crabtree Falls, Mt. Mitchell, Asheville and Black Mountain. We plan to return as soon as we can! Gail is wonderful to work with.
