About Bobbie Ames

I have lived in many places and have traveled to great spots...but this beautiful tranquil place on the shore line of Maine means home to me.

I love cooking, great books, drinking cups of coffee sitting outside and amazing restaurants.

I am the youngest of 6 children - our families are all spread out across the United States...but we all get together in Maine for the most memorable of times.

Bobbie Ames purchased this house in 1983

Why Bobbie Ames chose Downeast and Acadia

This spot has always been home. We moved a lot growing up but our parents were both from Maine and every year we came back to Maine. At first, we would stay in Lamoine with our Great Aunt Eunice in a farmhouse that still exists to this day. Eventually my parents bought a cottage on the shore right next to this property. And we would stay there every summer. When our neighbors cottage came up for sale they bought that one too and began to make plans for their retirement home. They began designing and building their dream retirement home in the '80's. The home was finished and my father retired. But a fatal heart attack prevented him from ever living there. My Mother lived there year round for the rest of her life, refusing to leave this magnificent spot until health issues forced her to move into permanent care.

What makes this house unique

All you have to do is see the view and smell the air and you will understand why this property means so much to our family.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Viewport is a lovely place to enjoy a restful vacation in a quiet neighborhood that's close enough to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor to enjoy all the activities both those locations have to offer. The house is spacious and has everything you need. We enjoyed kayaking off the private beach and sitting on the back porch having lunch and watching boats and other kayakers cruise the waterway. Bobbie provides ample information about the area and where you can get great food and enjoy different activities. She is also readily available to answer any questions about the house or the area. This was a great 'home base' location to enjoy everything the area has to offer.

Gorgeous views in this quaint spacious home close to all the great lobster restaurants!

We had a group of ten with my sister and I and our hubbies and between us six teenagers. We loved that there was plenty of bedroom space for all of us! We loved the small touches that Bobbie did like the beautifully organized booklets about restaurants and activities near by and having hand soap already at every sink! Plenty of bath and swim towels for us all. The home had a huge kitchen which was great for at night when we played family games. We loved access to our own private beach with exploring the rocks and rented Kayaks to have there at the house. We could easily drive to Bar Harbor or Trenton for restaurants! We drove to Acadia almost daily to do hiking. We did whale watching boat trip and saw whales! The home was comfy and great to hang out together at night after our fully packed schedules for the day and also a couple days stayed at the house for using the Kayaks. The water was freezing even though it was summer but we made it a fun game to do a family Polar Ice challenge without the ice! Ha ha! Bobbie's home is beautiful and perfect for a large family get away! I highly recommend it and would stay there again in the future! 👍🏼

I'm looking out on our splendid Maine bay and do not want to leave this gorgeous house where 9 adults have spent a week in complete comfort and appreciation of the thoughtfulness of the homeowner.

My family and I stayed at Viewport late July; there were 7 of us, lots of different ages; and we all just LOVED it there. The kids loved walking on the beach , we loved sitting on the chairs looking out at the water. The kitchen was a pleasure to work in, and had all the necessary items and more to make our stay more comfortable.

The bedrooms worked out great, and it was so nice to have enough linens around the house; as well as fans to keep the air moving when necessary.

Thanks again, we hope we're able to stay at Viewport again sometime.

Amazing location and view!

  • 4 of 5

We just had a great week at Viewport. I loved the location in a quiet area away from the crowds of the park. We did go to Acadia almost everyday, but it was nice to come back and relax. We had kayaks delivered to the door and they were great to use right from the water behind the house. We enjoyed lobster cooked by a neighbor down the street a few times, and got great local tips from everyone we met. The views are amazing. The house comfortably fit 6 adults and 3 kids, and it was a week we will remember. The owner was quick to respond to questions. The only negative we found was the lack of air conditioning on the 2nd floor. I hadn't noticed that being in the property write up, and it was a hot week for us. The 5 people sleeping upstairs had it a little tough, and we were never able to use the 2nd floor family room. It is a beautiful room with a large tv and game table, and I am disappointed that we couldn't take advantage of the space.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. And yes, it was a hot week, very rare for this area - I am sorry you could not spread out. But glad the first floor stayed cool for you. We are looking into portable air conditioners for the second floor to alleviate this problem for future guests. We hope you will give us another try soon! Thanks for your feedback - Bobbie

Viewport is truly delightful

  • 5 of 5

Our family (10 people most of the time) had a wonderful 2 weeks at Viewport. The property description is totally accurate, it was immaculate, and had everything we needed. Both the house and the grounds are spacious with a great view. The owner was extremely helpful and the Welcome Books were very informative. We highly recommend this property and we definitely plan on a return visit.

Great views, peaceful, and serene!

  • 5 of 5

Three generations--10 people. Great location directly on the waters of Eastern Bay.

We all love to kayak so this was very important to us. Great wildlife viewing--we saw eagles, porpoise, seals, and deer. Watched the lobstermen checking their traps right out front. Whether sitting right out on our beach, flying kites, playing bocce, or relaxing in the hammock or adirondack chairs, there was always a great view. The house is very spacious and well-equipped and the owner was very accommodating and responsive to our needs. Thanks, Bobbi.
