Very comfortable and luxury house on a beautiful beach and ample privacy. You will love the open floor plan and glass doors opening to a wrap-around deck with views of the beach.
The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs. There is an additional bedroom with private bathroom downstairs.
House includes all linens and towels, a full kitchen and washer/dryer.
There is also an outside shower by the beach steps for your convenience and a gas grill.
Great Harbour Cay is surprisingly tranquil and non-touristy considering it's close proximity to South Florida. Only 120 miles East of Miami. There are direct flights from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. There are also 2 flights daily from Nassau (only 20 minutes!) Le Air Phone # 242-322-1317, one at 7:30 am and one at 5:20 pm.
Great Harbour Cay also boasts many activities, unparalleled in the Bahamas: fabulous fishing- both deep water and bone fishing, shell collecting, snorkeling, diving, golf, tennis, island hopping, and island exploring, just to name a few.
There are several restaurants with native cuisine and international fare, small shops, grocery stores, and even a medical clinic on the island. Car, golf cart and jeep and boat rentals are available.
No bank in the Island, so please bring cash.
Casa Marina is a delightful home - elegant and comfortable. The owner is easy to work with and very helpful and kind. The staff is helpful and friendly. The house is located right on the water. Depending on the weather and tide, there is a lovely little beach just steps from the back of the house. It is somewhat isolated but close enough to get anywhere on the island in a matter of minutes. Our family has celebrated NYE (our wedding anniversary) at this lovely property for the past two years and we are going back again this year. Don't miss going to church with Circle and Elorn, the Tamboo Club on NYE, bone fishing with Percy, charter fishing with Joe, and especially a boat trip with Kenny who spears fish and lobster, dives for conch and cooks it all up on a deserted beach where you eat the finest lobster with your hands, fresh out of the water. We come from Texas and Massachusetts and meet up in Nassau for a couple of days to enjoy the Christmas Junkanoo and stock up on groceries. Then we hop on LE Air for the 20 minute flight to GHC and a couple of weeks of family time. Isabel has a well-stocked kitchen including an icemaker which came in handy for frozen drinks to sip on the spectacular wraparound porch. When we arrived last year, the lights were out due to a generator being out on the island so no one had power but the caretaker was kind and welcomed us with lanterns and candles which just added to the atmosphere. There is absolutely nothing that you could want that the resourceful, helpful locals won't deliver right to your door. Everyone knows everyone and you feel entirely safe sleeping with the doors unlocked. Our local friends drop by for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening, and we sit on the porch and watch the dolphins and the occasional shark in the distance as the ships pass by in a steady parade. Kenny is a fabulous tour guide and he will take you out for the day in his boat or you can rent a boat and he will be your tour director. He knows the water and weather and has friends on all the surrounding cays who welcomed us with open arms at every stop. Most of our days were spent on the water. We would plan our day each morning and Kenny would make all the necessary arrangements and then he would cook our catch for us in the evening. On our last day, he even prepared and packaged lobster to freeze and take home with us. Can't wait to get back there again to see our friends and enjoy the peace of GHC.
We had a wonderful family vacation at Casa Marina. Isabel was wonderful -- very welcoming, and responsive to our requests and many questions. She was professional and easy to work with. Lyndell, Isabel's house keeper, was there to meet us when we arrived, and gave us a good introduction to the house. Casa Marina itself is beautiful. It is well stocked and very clean. The location is excellent. We took many long walks on the stunning beach in front of Casa Marina, and often saw no one else or just a few people. Great Harbour Cay is unspoiled and largely undiscovered. There are great beaches (e.g. Shelling) to explore, and the ruins of the old Sugar Beach Hotel are worth a visit. We flew Tropic Ocean Airways from FLL, and brought some food of our own, though we also ate out. The gas grill at Casa Marina was great. We rented Isabel's Kawasaki Mule for the week, and that was good to have for getting around the Island. If you're from the US, you have to get used to driving on the left -- but there's so little traffic, it's not stressful. We had good breakfasts and lunches at the new Beach Club, and also went for the Fish Fry at the Beach Club. For dinner, in addition to cooking at the house, we had a great meal at CarriEarl and at Collie Mae's. Each morning, we also ordered a loaf of fresh bread from Collie Mae, which would be ready in the early afternoon. It is easy to really relax at Casa Marina, and to let it all go. We look forward to coming back.
We had a fantastic vacation at Casa Marina! Great Harbour Cay (GHC) is one of those undiscovered and unspoiled Bahamian islands. I almost hate writing this review and letting people know about this wonderful island/house, but promised the locals I would, so here goes...
The House: Casa Marina was immaculate and extremely comfortable. My family enjoys remote locations, but I require a comfortable living space and Casa Mariana delivered both. The house had great common space for us to gather, comfortable bedrooms for privacy, a clean well-appointed kitchen, wonderful master ensuite bathroom and a huge wrap around porch to sit and listen to the ocean. Isabel (the owner) was such a pleasure to work with – responsive and truly cares that her guests have a carefree and memorable vacation.
The Island: Great Harbour Cay was wonderful. If you’re looking for clubs and casinos this is not the place for you – go to Las Vegas. If you want a relaxing vacation on a beautiful island with friendly locals, conch fritters, pristine blue water and remote beaches – then you have it at GHC. A few highlights: Sugar Cay Beach – fun; Coolie Mae’s restaurant – BEST sunsets and yummy food (try the fresh baked bread); Circle the taxi driver – cool dude who makes sure you have/know whatever you need; Lynda – met us upon arrival at Casa Marina and was a sweetheart; rent a boat from Alvin and explore; kick back and relax.
This home is fantastic! Not only is it beautiful, but the set-up could not be better for a beach vacation. The layout inside is great - master with great ocean views and huge bath on one side, and the other bedrooms and bath on the other side of the house. Flat screen TVs with huge channel selection and good WI-FI. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and more, including a freestanding icemaker. The outside set-up is what you are here for, and it can't be beat...the covered deck is huge with plenty of quality furniture, and close to the water. We spent half our time hanging out there. Another deck with sun, shade and furiniture right on the water's edge, complete with shower and foot-washing station. The beach is great for swimming, and you can watch all sorts of water craft going by in the distance. The owner and caretaker are great to work with, and even arranged our rides from and to the airport. There are 2 vehicles available for rent also. The pictures just cannot show the wonderful experience you will have at this house. Highly recommended!
We have been coming to Great Harbor for quite a few years, and this is by far the best place we have stayed!! pictures do not do it justice. The beach this house is on is breathtaking, and the view from the patio is AMAZING!!! It has all the comforts of home, and all the things you need to cook with. The kitchen/living room area is super spacious and comfy for a lot of people. There is internet and direct tv. We were greeted by the housekeeper Grace who is very sweet. And I can't tell you how nice the owner Isabell is to communicate with. She responded to my emails promptly and is very kind . I highly highly recommend renting this house if you are looking to stay on This island. We certainly plan on renting this house again in the future.
We stayed here for 13 days starting early Dec 2014. My husband and I had the house to ourselves at the beginning and end of those days and for 1 week in between 2 friends joined us. All four of us were blown away. The pictures are extremely accurate, except perhaps not always doing the rooms enough justice. The kitchen is fully stocked with any sort of utensil or appliance you might need. The ice machine is a fantastic addition. The beds are very comfy. The 4th bedroom is downstairs, separate from the rest of the house (you have to go outside to get up to the rest of the house, though it has it's own bathroom) however we did not have need of that room so cannot really comment on it particularly.
In reading the reviews for this place- I rely HEAVILY on reviews for traveling and shopping- I kept wondering why all of the hubbub about the dealings with the owner, Isabel. Well now we know. She is a delight to deal with, very caring, very warm, and she thinks of everything. Unfortunately we had a few issues with her rentals for transportation, but her being out of the country for a month she was not able to deal directly with them and as yet we're still awaiting her return, so I cannot comment on how everything pans out, but we have faith. The caretaker, Grace, was always available and she handled the issues very quickly and to our satisfaction each time. She is a peach! Very warm and thoughtful as well. And the place was SPOTLESS upon our arrival, she is very thorough.
We've rented houses in the Caribbean previously, but none offered the seclusion that this one did. We saw not one soul on our beach the entire 13 days. And though we were here in the low season, the locals gave us the impression that our beach would still not be crowded even in peak season. I believe it, judging but the layout of the houses. The new deck down by the beach with an outdoor shower next to it is wonderful. Though the deck on the house is just simply perfect, so pulling yourself off of the house deck to get down to that beach deck was sometimes difficult!
Even the living room was very comfortable; when it was just hubby and I we tended to watch movies at night. Isabel has all of the movie channels and that was a nice plus & the TV is gorgeous.
The master bdrm is superb- wait until you see its bathroom in person, those pictures definitely do not do enough justice.
Am at the limit of much I can type in this review; I could go on and on. We'll definitely return to Casa Marina!
