Delightful, Historic Spanish Triplex: Steps From Pass-a-grille Beach

Bedrooms 1
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Middle, two story apartment in the lovely Spanish Triplex

This is your fantastic beach getaway!

Our lovely pink Spanish stucco tri-plex is on quiet residential street that ends in one block at the beautiful sands of Pass-a-Grille beach. Enter through the arched courtyard past hibiscus, jasmine and tropical flowers. Inside, the 1920's Floridian beach decor has been tastefully updated with new fabrics & paint. There are of course modern updates: Cable Internet (wired & WiFi), cable connected flat screen TVs w/Blu Ray, optional phone w/free US & Canada calls, washer, dryer, and dishwasher. Towels and sheets are constantly upgraded, beach chairs, towels, umbrellas and toys are provided. Out back, each unit has a private garden patio with gas grill, table & chairs, and wicker lounge. At night the gardens are tastefully lite by strings of white and colored lights.

One block away are 3 restaurants, a great deli, a bar w/music & a grocery store; convenient, yet still peaceful and quiet. A ten-minute walk down the beach in one direction brings you to the Don Cesar Hotel and in the other, the downtown area of Pass-a-Grille. Yet you are away from all the high-rise noise and bustle of St Pete Beach.

The tri-plex is made up of three units, middle and two end apartments:

Inside the middle unit, the top floor is one large bedroom and tiled bath with a shower, a balcony, and French doors on both ends. There is a small alcove with a twin bed separated by curtains from the main room. The bedroom is tastefully decorated with attractive coverings for the king-sized bed and has a bright and open feeling with views of the tropical landscaping. A washer and dryer are also on this floor.

The downstairs consists of a front room which can be made into a private bedroom with a state of the art foam sofa bed, a newly remodeled, gorgeous kitchen with tile counters and walls, a living room with a pull-out queen-size sofa, bathroom with shower, and dining area which seats four. The floors are all Mexican tile with Oriental carpets. French doors lead to an amazing garden of banana, bird of paradise, jasmine and bamboo plants surrounding the paved patio with large decorative wicker table and chairs and a gas grill.

About Leslie Hollweg

Years ago our parents came to the St. Pete area to enjoy the Floridian respite from the Wisconsin Winters. Over the years, as each of us started spending more and more time in the area, we started looking for places of our own to stay.

We have found interesting properties that offer a quiet and relaxing pace. Each of our properties has been our own vacation home. They are all unique. Most reflect the cozy and relaxed beach atmosphere of the 1920's - 1940's.

Over the years we have gradually upgraded them while maintaining their historic nature. Of course with a family that includes an architect (dad), interior designers, gardeners, and, most importantly, handymen, we have upgraded our places and continue to maintain them ourselves with pride. Our emphasis has been to preserve the feel and historic aspects of the properties while modernizing the inside facilities.

Reflecting our interests in tropical fruits and spices, our gardens tend to be more out of the ordinary. We have exotic tropical and subtropical fruits, spices, and flowers. Look around and you may find our vanilla orchids, lychees, longans, lemon grass, cinnamon, passion fruit, pomegranate, kaffir lime, and macadamia along more traditional citrus and bananas. For flowering trees we have ylang ylang, michela alba, jacaranda, and royal poinciana along with the more usual fragipani, hisbiscus, jasmine, gardinas, oleanders, bird-of-paradise, and bougainvilla. Consequently, our gardens are not the trimmed and manicured standard of fancy Floridian estates.

Leslie Hollweg purchased this house in 1996

Why Leslie Hollweg chose St Pete Beach

Come stay with us and you will know why we have picked this lovely Spanish style home/

What makes this house unique

As we explore and sample the area, we learn about those special places to enjoy and visit. We also learn what NOT to do and where NOT to eat. Each of our units has a guidebook that we have personally developed over the years with maps, restaurant menus and recommendations, and places to fish, shop, bird watch, walk, bike, and explore. We are constantly adding and updating the guidebooks. We welcome and appreciate our guests suggestions and contributions to these guidebooks. Great fun. It gives us a great excuse to go out to eat!

We hope you enjoy our cottages. We're looking forward to meeting you.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks Leslie, it was a lovely stay! The unit was very clean and comfortable, patio lush and private, and just steps to a gorgeous beach with spectacular sunsets. I rented a bike for the week and rode around the quaint Pass-a-Grille streets, north to John's Pass, and south a couple of times to the absolutely stunning beaches of Fort Desoto Park. Bike routes were good, generally flat with dedicated lanes and off road trails to get you where you were going. I look forward to staying and exploring again in the near future!

PS. Feel free to use as a recommendation.

Clean and great location

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable for 4 adults and a 3 month old! My parents had the pull out couch and they were shocked how comfortable it was. The house was very clean with everything that you could need. The beach was a 2 minute walk from the house and had beach equipment available to use! Wonderful place and we would stay here again!

The property was clean, comfortable, and cozy. It was wonderful to be so close to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our visit to Pass-e-Grille Beach. We appreciate the quiet and slow-paced charm that this beach down offers. The beaches were absolutely beautiful. The property was clean, comfortable, and cozy. It felt like home almost immediately. The beds were comfortable and we were able to find everything we needed. The washer and dryer on site was such a treat. We literally went home with a suitcase full of clean clothes. The decor of the house was warm and soothing. The outdoor patios were a perfect place to retreat and enjoy a cold drink after visiting the beach. The local restaurants were easy to walk to and we never even had to wait for a table. The only downside is all the construction in the area. I would recommend this property and certainly Pass-e-Grille Beach to anyone. It is absolutely beautiful.

PERFECT location for a beach get-a-way!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the middle unit 101 1/2 - 3 nights 4 days! We were here for my daughters beach wedding!

It was PERFECT for myself & my husband! It is a bit smaller than the pics portray, however again, it was perfect for 2 adults! If you have kids I would recommend they be old enough to sleep on the pull out downstairs!

The 2 bathrooms proved to be just what we needed, The bedroom is very spacious (the entire upstairs) Having a multi level has now spoiled us & will most def be staying here again. And lets talk about the King bed, seems most rentals offer a queen! Bonus

Leslie provides beach chairs, umbrellas, beach mats, toys etc

The "housekeeper" Christine was most kind & friendly, we were able to check in early & stay later, which helped tremendously due to our early arrival flight & late departure flight!

Unit was very clean. The grill did not work but Christine told us we could use the grill next door ( we chose not to grill) We did not cook in the unit due to our short stay, however, the kitchen is beautiful. Complete with everything you would need!

We sat on the downstairs patio a few times, using the upstairs deck only in the late evening due to it being too hot ( I thought maybe some sort of canopy would be cool up there, to watch the storms without getting wet)

There is currently horrible construction in this area, thankfully we spent most of our time on the beach, we found a casual little eatery we frequented that was very close ( Ricks's Reef, highly recommend)

Beautiful beach, tons of shells, clean!

Great Location but not great for small children

  • 3 of 5

I am a regular day visitor to Pass-a-grille and I couldn't wait to share this beach with my husband and kids for our summer holiday. We stayed in the middle unit 101 1/2. It was very well outfitted with everything you could think you would need on vacation at the beach. The space is a tad tight downstairs but the upstairs is bright and spacious. The kitchen has everything you could need except a spare cabinet to store any groceries and every other surface in the space is a little over decorated. If you are driving to this location and like to bring games and other personal items you may have to get a little creative on where to store things. I didn't realize when I booked this cozy spot that none of the rooms really had any doors(I should have looked more closely at the pictures) It says two bedrooms so I just assumed...well we have a 1 year old that goes to bed by 7pm. We all had to be super quiet downstairs while he was sleeping up stairs. We were able to close ourselves in to the small front sitting room and play games. The downstairs broom closet is no closet at all, just a corner with mops, brooms and chemicals with a folding door leaning over it. We made sure to have that space blocked along with the stairs up and down. There is a landing upstairs that crosses to a twin that my husband and I were concerned about. It's a piece of wood with zero support beneath. I wasn't very worried about my 60lb eight year old getting to bed it just freaked me out to walk across it to tuck him in. I contacted the owners and they assured us it was safe but it still creeped me out to walk the plank.

The owners have done a fabulous job with the outdoor space; the deck upstairs and patio down are really lovely. It was a little too buggy to enjoy them but really pretty.

Overall this location is prime in my opinion. The gulf or the inner coastal are a 1 minute walk away and the house would be perfect for anyone without kids under the age of 4. Mainly because the sounds just travels throughout the whole house and there is just stuff everywhere that could be broken or knocked over and not really anywhere to put them out of harms way.

Once the little one is bigger I would consider staying here again.

We had such a wonderful stay at the condo. It was clean, comfortable, and updated. Leslie and Tom have beautiful plants around the triplex. Everything was so thoughtfully placed from shelves, towel racks, and hooks everywhere we needed them to an air mattress for our 4 year old, and a well-stocked kitchen. The upstairs bedroom was open, bright, and spacious. We were on a quiet street with a very short walk (one block or less) to the beautiful beach, a Circle K, and three restaurants. We also enjoyed eating on the beach at Paradise Grill (short drive/long beach walk). Thank you to Leslie and Tom for a fun, comfortable place to stay!

Pass-a-Grille Beach
Car: not necessary

Pass-a-Grille, a barrier island community that lies on the southern tip of St. Pete Beach, is bounded on the west by the Gulf of Mexico and on the east by Boca Ciega Bay. A charming, historic town that was one of the earliest settlements on the coast started as a fishing village. Some say the name came from the sight of fishermen grilling their catch on the beach as boats passed by.

Pass-a-Grille still maintains the pleasant laid-back feel of the beach communities developed in the early 1900's. Strict zoning has avoided the intrusion of the high rise beach condos that plague the rest of the Gulf Coast.

Its quaint downtown and brightly colored cottages are reminiscent of artist's colonies. Today, its galleries, restaurants and B & B's draw Floridians and visitors from all over the world.

Considered one of the most pleasing beaches in the area, Pass-a-Grille has fine white sand and shells backed by waving dunes of sea oats and palms protecting the colorful cottages from nature's fury. The gradual drop-off of the firm sand into the low waves makes for safe swimming for kids and miles of excellent walking or jogging at sunrise or sunset.

A fifteen minute walk up the beach is the great Don Cesar Hotel with its old time elegance and its coral wedding cake architecture. It's great destination for a thirst quenching drink or an elegant lunch. A ten minute walk south is the historic 8th Avenue with small elegant shops, boats for fishing, shelling and trips around the area. A highlight is the beach front cafe with casual food and music at sunset.

As the evening approaches, join the quiet migration down to the beach to reflect on the day and watch the sun set on over the Gulf, perchance to catch the green flash.

The beach access walkway is just a block down the street. One block away in the other direction is the bay and the Pass-a-Grille Yacht Club.
