Our house is a 100 year old traditional Maine cottage that has received substantial upgrades and improvements to make it a great 2014 rental for a family. It is a 3 story home with charming antique furnishings in a very quiet, residential neighborhood. It sits high on a hill and overlooks a rolling lawn from the front porch, with sounds of the lobster boats in the nearby harbor. It is walking distance to the harbor, 2 town docks and downtown Southwest Harbor. This is a perfect place for a family to experience a traditional Maine vacation, with the added convenience of WI-FI, HDTV, BluRay DVD.
This past season, we invested a great deal into the house, including painting/plaster inside and out, new kitchen stove and refrigerator/freezer, clothes dryer, kitchen and dining room lights, wi-fi router, HDTV, all new mattresses, sheets, towels and wicker porch furniture. These updates make it both more cozy and contemporary. The place is fresh, friendly and traditional and yet for those who need digital connectivity, it affords that as well.
It is set on Clark Point, home of the Claremont Hotel. Here, you can have a fine dining experience in their dining room, enjoy a casual lunch at their boathouse and enjoy the beautiful view of Somes Sound, or have a game of croquet.
You are just a 5 minute walk from the Island Explorer bus, a free shuttle service that takes you to all points of Acadia National Park, hotels, and downtown Bar Harbor. Downtown Southwest Harbor is also 5 minutes away, with many restaurants and charming shops.
There is a small workshop on the property where croquet equipment is hand made.
If playing board games by a wood burning fireplace after enjoying the day on the ocean or exploring Acadia National Park sounds like what you are looking for, this is the place. It is a warm, cozy family retreat that has been providing an authentic Maine holiday experience for decades.

This home was our family summer cottage for many years while the kids and grandkids were growing up. We have so many great memories of birthday parties, cookouts, board games, and just fun times.
The Owner purchased this house in 1982
It is perfectly situated. Close to both town and the harbor. A very short walk to the Claremont Hotel, the finest dining and view in town. And it is a traditional Maine cottage.
Location, cozy, family-friendly. 2 porches for relaxing. It is all happening around you, but yet you feel quiet and private.
We stayed for a week ( I wish it was longer) -5 adults and 2 children. It was very comfortable.
House is very beautifully furnished and has everything you'll need while there. It is very clean and well-maintained. Location is perfect - walking distance to town. Alan is very helpful & atentive. You can call him anytime with questions. We had a great time in Acadia - hiking, biking, blueberry picking & good eating. Good dinners at Eat-a-Pita, Rogue & Sips. Lobster at Beals. We'll definetly stay at this house again.
All of Acadia National Park at your doorstep. Croquet and weekly lectures at nearby Claremont Hotel. You are a 5 minute walk from the Island Explorer, a free island-wide bus service and to docks that offer water taxis to outer islands. Town restaurants, foodstores and gallery shopping is just stroll away.
