Be sure to take time to relax on the deck and enjoy the breathtaking views and sunshine.
This place was great! The kids loved it, and so did we. We walked around the lake many times--even at night. Saw several shooting stars, as there was very little light pollution out that far. So peaceful. Close to hiking trails and great little restaurants down the road. Hope to stay there again soon!
Property clean and well kept. Owner very responsive to both phone call and text msg inquiries once we arrived. Has all the comforts of home. TV system in living room area was missing the remote to the Roku box - However, you can download a Roku app for your cell phone which then controls this box (owner has since informed that the remote was found)... This property has three distinct and separate living quarters of which this rental unit lies in the center portion of the building. The property owner states that they do NOT schedule occupants in either of the units that flank this rental when this center unit is being rented. This property sits on the north side of a small lake. Excellent, relaxing views from the back patio. No issues with hot water for taking showers and water pressure was great throughout the unit. Quiet, peaceful setting as the property sits back off the dirt road about 50-60 yards. Beds were quite comfortable (on the soft side). Washer and Dryer units worked well for the couple of loads we did. Kitchen is stocked with everything you would need - pots, pans, utensils, and ample supply of various spices and seasonings. Coffee maker had plenty of filters and there was ground coffee there from past guests. Air conditioning worked good as we needed it during our stay as temps got into the mid 80s. Three bedrooms with separate beds. However, two of the bedrooms are not totally separated as the wall between the bedrooms does not go all the way to the ceiling. This is due to the fact that there are two bunkbed style beds that are on a "shelf" that runs between the two bedrooms. Climb a little ladder to get into the bunkbeds, but be advised that there is NOT a lot of headroom in the bunkbeds. This half-wall set-up between the two bedrooms does allow for noise travel between the rooms - so don't plan on total privacy if in one of these bedrooms. The other main bedroom is totally separate, and actually quite large (I'm guessing it to be like 16'x22') and has a nice view out over the lake. During our stay there weren't any other people in the units on either side of us - we had the whole property to ourselves. I would gladly go back here in a heartbeat!
We loved our college reunion stay.
Overall, this was a wonderful place for our family of five to vacation. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
Positives: a beautiful location with mountain view overlooking a small lake; expansive deck; the kitchen was fully equipped with every pan and utensil you could possibly need, plus many extras like spices and condiments; nice open design common space (LR, DR, and kitchen); two mountain bikes were available (though we did not use them); the cabin is about one mile from the outstanding Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Our favorite part of the week was walking to the state park to hike the Mule Deer trail, which goes around the mountain you see from the cabin and which includes the Panoramic Viewpoint - from which you could see "our" lake and cabin; altogether, this was about a 12-mile hike.
A few negatives: the two middle floor bedrooms both have access to a shared loft space (which have two mattresses suitable for children) - this means the wall between the two bedrooms does not extend all the way to the ceiling, which may be fine when children are using these rooms, but not so private for adults; the LR seating space was a bit crowded with five adults; the TV does not have satellite reception (but is equipped with Roku); the only grill option (due to fire restrictions) was an electric grill, challenging to regulate; and there is no direct access to the lake from the cabin.
But, as I said, it was overall a wonderful place for our vacation. We would definitely recommend this property to others, ideally for four adults or a family with children. Kristine was quick to respond to questions and even sent updates a week or two before our trip about the status of a forest fire in the region and recent wildlife sightings. She was great to work with!
We had a wonderful relaxing stay! Located within reasonable driving distance from hiking, shopping, and dining. Thank you again for sharing your cabin with our family!
My family thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Kristine's mountain getaway. We spent the week from June 17-24th 2016 and I can't stop thinking about what a great time we had. Fresh air and wonderful weather and a very comfortable home with everything you need. Recommend a little planning, everything is not around the corner but that is the beauty of this place. Do a big shopping trip before heading up 9400 feet and you have everything you need at the house including an electric grill that cooked up some of the best meals I have had in a long time. I almost hesitate to rave about this place, because I want a week open for when we want to come back. Easy to get to Golden, Denver, Boulder, we even went to Pike's Peak, a bit of a ride, the town of Nederland is just charming. and saw a Rockies game for the grand finale. You can't work with a better owner either, Kristine is wonderful and will ensure your stay is memorable. Get out of the city and suburbs and relax, this place is really special.
Centrally located to everything! Less than 1 hour from Denver, Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park. Just 1 mile from the north entrance of Golden Gate Canyon State Park. 4 miles to Gilpin County Rec Center with indoor pool, water slide, work out facilities and classes. Travel 10 miles south to historic Black Hawk and Central City for some western history, food, fun and gambling. 10 miles to the north, Nederland has some good restaurants with live music several nights a week, shopping and several art and music festivals in the summer. Many find it hard to leave the house, it is a perfect place to just relax and get away from everyday stress, traffic and recharge while enjoying the beautiful lake and mountain views.
