Nicely appointed main residence in the heart of the famous Kona Coffee region on the Big Island of Hawaii. For the discerning traveler looking for a true Hawaii experience with space to stretch out and relax. Experience life in the Kona Coffee region, with clear mountain air, panoramic ocean views, country quiet, yet close to everything including airport, beaches, shopping and sightseeing.

This is the main residence on the farm, modern yet maintains the charm of the region with mild Japanese influences and unique Kona Coffee region architectural style. Built in 1998 is it a charming house painted red with a green roof which is so typical for homes in this area. Exquisitely landscaped and lighted with hibiscus, bamboo, 9 types of palms and mango, papaya, pineapple, etc. Ocean views from every room and Lanai. 1350 square foot residence and 400 square foot wrap around lanai with teak table for 6 and gas barbecue. Sit back and enjoy after a day of Big Island adventure.

About Albert Holt

Albert and Linda Holt moved to the Big Island after deciding they needed something to do after working in Silicon Valley for the past 30 years. A Kona Coffee farm seemed to be just the ticket. Having had vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas they were excited about being able to share the Kona Coffee farming experience, and the Big Island Hawaii experience with others, so they built a guest residence just for that purpose. Pictured here with the very first roasted and bagged coffee from our first year (2007) crop.

This morning we checked out of the house and were sad to go. We will remember this visit for many reasons:



The house is great and the views are just awesome.

We enjoyed going down the steep narrow path leading to the house, even though the first time we had no idea what to expect.

We even liked the coqui frogs at night.

The geckos were very friendly.

The thunderstorm was the most impressive I've experienced in a very long time.

The Japanese couple living up the road were awesome too. I spoke to them briefly when I met them while walking up the path. I mentioned my daughter getting married in a couple of days and the next day they surprised us all with a beautiful bouquet picked from their garden as a present for my daughter.



So a big mahalo for the experience,

Coffee farm relaxation

We spent a week at this fantastic house overlooking coffee plants and lush tropical vegetation. The view to the ocean is magnificent. Though it was a cloudy week, the bits of sunsets that we enjoyed from the lanai were amazing. Overall, we found the house exceeded the expectations we had based upon the things we saw and read on VRBO.

The house is clean and well maintained. It is an excellent floor plan with comfortable decor. Wifi worked well and easily. We were grateful to borrow snorkeling gear and beach chairs that they have for guest use. We grilled every night on the lanai.

We arrived at the house for the first time after dark and had no trouble at all finding it given the very detailed directions with photos that Albert provided.

It is a pleasure to drive along Mamalahoa Highway/Route 180 past coffee farms every day. Our Lonely Planet guidebook lists this as one of the top drives on the island, and staying here allows you to get to know it a bit.

One other thing we particularly appreciated was how comfortable it was to stay here during a partially rainy week. Day One we got back to the house mid-day, grilled some clams, ate on the lanai, and then read there all afternoon. The fact that it was pouring didn't matter at all. We were dry and comfortable and able to enjoy the sound of the rain.

The farm house setting and view was spectacular.

The amenities were as listed with a well stocked kitchen and excellent quality cooking equiment. Everything you need for the beach is available. The only challenges were internet connectivity and no directions for use of remotes for the TVs. A welcome book would be helpful!

Wonderful time

We were very happy to stay at Al’s Kona Coffee Vacation Rental by owner home. We say home because that is what it felt like to be in such a lovely environment. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and excellent appliances. We cooked many of our meals over the three weeks we stayed. The WiFi worked flawlessly and the TV and Netflix movies were great. We had a Super Bowl party and really enjoyed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history by the New England Patriots over the Atlanta Falcons. We were centrally located to the North and South and East side of the Big Island. The views from the Coffee farm are scenic and serene. Our experience was made special because we were able to be part of the Spirit of the Island. When we met Kelly, the cleaning lady, she told us about how the units are kept clean by her and the garbage is taken to the dump. We collected all aluminum cans in a separate garbage sack and that is ok to do. We found all of the local contact around the Island to be welcoming and exciting. We would love to come back and experience the Aloha Spirit again.

Wonderful stay

We were lucky to have stayed here for 4 months, a few weeks in the lower unit and the rest of the time in the upper. The views are incomparable and we sorely miss waking up to the Kona coast. Being up mauka made for comfortable temperatures, especially for sleeping, and wonderful privacy. It was so nice to get out of the heat of the coast with a quick drive to the farm. We loved walking around the farm grounds and watching all of the wildlife (TONS of birds such as parrots, wild turkeys, pheasants, Hawaii chickens, egrets, cardinals, and mynas; then mongoose and geckos). I could not help smiling every evening listening to the pigs and other animals rustle around eating macadamia nuts. Watching the turkeys peck at mangoes that dropped from the massive trees was also amusing.

Each unit truly does have everything you'd need, but we were more comfortable in the upper unit. The kitchen is fully stocked. The lower unit bathroom is very fancy, the upper unit baths less so but perfectly functional. It's easiest if both renters park in the garage, which frees up the extra space at the top of the driveway to back up and then drive down. The walk from the garage to the units is steep...good exercise!

Al was very responsive to any questions or concerns and even gave us a bag of Kona beans during one of his visits. We met the groundsman and one of the workers from the UCC coffee farm next door, and they were so friendly. All in all, this was a wonderful, unique place to stay and we enthusiastically recommend it!

Fantastic place to stay in Kona!!!

This is a very nice, clean house which is well-equipped with everything needed for a lengthy stay. We spent 12 days there over Christmas vacation with our two teenage kids and will definitely go back soon. Albert was the perfect host. We never actually met him in person but when there was a minor problem with the entertainment system getting out of synch he was able to quickly resolve the issue over the phone. (The system functioned perfectly after that and was easy to operate by following the typed instructions.) We enjoyed grilling on the covered deck and just hanging out between day trips and scuba diving.
