Exquisitely landscaped and lighted with hibiscus, bamboo, 9 types of palms and mango, papaya, pineapple, etc. Ocean views from every room and Lanai. 1350 square foot residence and 400 square foot wrap around lanai with teak table for 6 and gas barbecue. Sit back and enjoy after a day of Big Island adventure.

Albert and Linda Holt moved to the Big Island after deciding they needed something to do after working in Silicon Valley for the past 30 years. A Kona Coffee farm seemed to be just the ticket. Having had vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas they were excited about being able to share the Kona Coffee farming experience, and the Big Island Hawaii experience with others, so they built a guest residence just for that purpose. Being away from the resorts and tourist hustle and bustle, yet close enough to everything in order to be able to experience the true Hawaii and Aloha.
Panoramic ocean views, 1400 feet above sea level where the air is clean and cool, wild turkeys and chickens, and the occasional pig wandering the property, night time nature sounds, calm no traffic lifestyle and plenty of property to stretch out in.
This morning we checked out of the house and were sad to go. We will remember this visit for many reasons:
The house is great and the views are just awesome.
We enjoyed going down the steep narrow path leading to the house, even though the first time we had no idea what to expect.
We even liked the coqui frogs at night.
The geckos were very friendly.
The thunderstorm was the most impressive I've experienced in a very long time.
The Japanese couple living up the road were awesome too. I spoke to them briefly when I met them while walking up the path. I mentioned my daughter getting married in a couple of days and the next day they surprised us all with a beautiful bouquet picked from their garden as a present for my daughter.

We were lucky to have stayed here for 4 months, a few weeks in the lower unit and the rest of the time in the upper. The views are incomparable and we sorely miss waking up to the Kona coast. Being up mauka made for comfortable temperatures, especially for sleeping, and wonderful privacy. It was so nice to get out of the heat of the coast with a quick drive to the farm. We loved walking around the farm grounds and watching all of the wildlife (TONS of birds such as parrots, wild turkeys, pheasants, Hawaii chickens, egrets, cardinals, and mynas; then mongoose and geckos). I could not help smiling every evening listening to the pigs and other animals rustle around eating macadamia nuts. Watching the turkeys peck at mangoes that dropped from the massive trees was also amusing.
Each unit truly does have everything you'd need, but we were more comfortable in the upper unit. The kitchen is fully stocked. The lower unit bathroom is very fancy, the upper unit baths less so but perfectly functional. It's easiest if both renters park in the garage, which frees up the extra space at the top of the driveway to back up and then drive down. The walk from the garage to the units is steep...good exercise!
Al was very responsive to any questions or concerns and even gave us a bag of Kona beans during one of his visits. We met the groundsman and one of the workers from the UCC coffee farm next door, and they were so friendly. All in all, this was a wonderful, unique place to stay and we enthusiastically recommend it!
This is a very nice, clean house which is well-equipped with everything needed for a lengthy stay. We spent 12 days there over Christmas vacation with our two teenage kids and will definitely go back soon. Albert was the perfect host. We never actually met him in person but when there was a minor problem with the entertainment system getting out of synch he was able to quickly resolve the issue over the phone. (The system functioned perfectly after that and was easy to operate by following the typed instructions.) We enjoyed grilling on the covered deck and just hanging out between day trips and scuba diving.
We came to Hawaii to go to the Kona Coffee Festival, and decided it would be nice to stay on an actual coffee farm. Found this one on VRBO and decided to give it a try. We were definitely not disappointed! The home was exactly as described....clean and inviting! It was close enough to go to Kona and surrounding areas for activities during the day, and then we would come back to the house for a quiet retreat. Loved the wild turkeys every day, but had to get used to the Coqui frogs at night...very loud, especially after it rains! It was also a hike from the garage to the house, or vice versa, but it had us in much better shape by the end of the week...hahaha.
We cooked at home a few times, and the kitchen was very well equipped for our needs. There were plenty of towels and linens available, and it was great to be able to do laundry at the house when needed.
We went to the Mauna Kea Tea Plantation, the Vanilla farm and the Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory, as well as touring a few other coffee farms...very informative. Also made it to the beach, which was beautiful.
We stayed at the house for a week, and didn't want to leave!
View is amazing and property has all that you could ask for being a home away from home.

My husband and I stayed here for a few months and absolutely loved it. The view is spectacular and the surrounding property is beautiful. It is a short drive to town and to some of the best snorkeling spots.
Since we were there for a few months we were able to enjoy several types of fruit that grows on the adjoining property - rambutan, tangerines, star fruit, loquat, passion fruit, papaya and lots of oranges. Each type of fruit ripens at a different time, so what is available will depend on the time of year. Although citrus seems to be year round. The neighboring coffee farm (UCC) allows you to pick their fruit as long as you leave their coffee cherries alone.
The home comes with everything you need from the kitchen supplies to beach supplies. The hot water never ran out - which is essential for four people showering following the manta ray night dive!
My two adult children and I rented this home and loved coming back there after arduous days hiking, swimming/snorkeling, sight seeing. It is GORGEOUS. My only warning is about the steep driveway and entrance to the property. Al and Linda do warn about this, but it was pretty hard to find at night. Once found, we felt very lucky to come home here and wake up here. The balcony and view are even better than the picture. What serenity and the set up really served us well for eating in and making lunch to go. We also enjoyed the water equipment provided for guests.
I don't believe that tourists without a car or those with limited physical ability would enjoy the experience as much. I will remember this experience and the time we had together for as long as I live. Al was very responsive when I called with questions, and in returning my damage deposit. Thanks!
