Hi Potential Guest -
As a frequent traveler, my home is open for others to enjoy San Diego. I was raised in the Midwest and currently manufacture medical devices as well as do software consulting for other medical device companies. This year's resolution is getting through 'beginner's hell' of salsa/country dancing,
Michael Geatz purchased this house in 2013
Fabulous place & great value. The neighbourhood is wonderful- there are plenty of places to eat, drink, get coffee etc. The apartment itself was bigger than expected from the photos (especially the upstairs bedroom). The outdoor area was also great, we especially loved the little dog who makes herself at home if she comes to visit you (you can lock her out if you're not into dogs). I assume part of the reason the cost is so low for this place is that there's no cleaning fee- so be prepared to clean up after yourself and be aware that you're coming into someone else's clean up job.
Would highly recommend this place or stay here again if we come back!
About a week before our arrival I checked the rental page and saw two new and pretty negative reviews that left me hesitant to contact the owner of the property. (They weren't there at the time of booking). It shouldn't be this way on homeaway. the floors were pretty dirty, my daughter couldn't crawl around even a little without her knees turning black. The kitchen has a stove, but only had one large skillet and one small skillet. So any plans we had for cooking meals to save money were thrown out. The downstairs bathroom clearly used to be a closet, which is fine except that there's no barrier between the bathroom and the storage space so you have to pee while staring at paint cans and whatnot, just odd. Additionally, the morning that we left I received a text message from the owner asking me to "clean up for the next guest that arrives later today." I already knew that we were supposed to put the towels and sheets in the wash and that was fine but I'm not a maid, I'm a guest and I shouldn't be the person responsible for "cleaning up" for the next people who arrive. I would not stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody else.
The hosts were beyond exceptional. The house was exactly what we needed: close to food, two sleeping spaces, a nice shower. It wasn't lavish, but completely functional. Parking would have been a breeze in a car, a bit more challenging in a truck/trailer combo. Hosts were so nice that they helped us solve the parking puzzle each night.
He just cancelled the reservation just because we asked him to get information about where we should leave the car once we arrive and he answered this back;
"I'm sorry, but somebody that asks lots of questions is typically a little bit more discerning and would be better suited in a hotel that specializes in hospitality. I can only offer a clean bed, clean bathroom, Free bottle of wine and a friendly Chihuahua to visit your room. Good luck and have fun in SD..."
All we asked in MONTHS were TWO questions!! One was about the parking place and the other one was regarding the wiffi pasword, and he totally lost his mind. He cancels everything only 5 days before arriving there without giving any explanation. Hard to believe.
A very rude person who doesn't deserve to make money. He just cares about making money but doesn't give a damn about his customers questions, even if they are 2 common and simple questions. All his messages were not longer than 10 words.. unbelievable..
As they say, "You get what you pay for". This rental unit is little cheaper but not the one you may like to spend nights at. We arrived more than 2 hours late (the owner had communicated us in the morning of arrival day that the dryer was broken so it would take more time to get the house ready) but the house was still not ready. The whole house including the toilets had such a bad smell that it was not possible for us to stay there. We contacted the owner and he said the cleaning lady would show up soon. After waiting for 30-40 mins when nobody showed up, I contacted the owner again, and he said that he couldn't do much and If I want I could look for another accomadation and hang off the phone in a very rude manner. With my parents and 2 years baby it was not easy to find another accomadation in that last minute which had a full kitchen.After waiting for about 30 more mins a friend of the owner showed up and she was very polite and apologized for everything and said that she would clean the house in one hour. We waited in the other unit while she was cleaning the house. She did a very good job but the house was in such a bad condition that we could still feel the bad smell. Probably the house had not been well kept and cleaned thoroughly for a long time. Finally the house was ready for us to enter about 7 pm. We had literally lost precious hours of our 2 day visit to San Diego. I will not recommend this unit to anyone. The only positives were the location of the house, two toilets in the unit, and ease of communication with the owner which apparently didn't end well.
Great host and nice place! This is central to all the cool stuff in Northpark from restaraunts to all the breweries, you can walk or take Lyft to it all! Thank you Mike for a great place to stay!
