Very small , dirty and old

  • 1 of 5

The posting says it has two rooms but it only has one.

The second room was the kitchen that had a dirty old couch that a pull out bed. After sleeping on the bed I ended up with welts and bites all over my skins. We left a day earlier than scheduled due to the awfulness of this place. Would not recommend to anyone.

Owner's Response: Sorry this guest had an unpleasant stay. The place is 3 years rennovated & advertised with the futon downstairs. We've considered this review and replaced the futon with a new sofabed. Can't explain those bites, sometimes folks go to the beach and get bit but don't recognize it until later.

Great Rate but...

  • 3 of 5

The old adage that says "you get what you pay for" is accurate in this case. This property is in a good location, its clean and the owner was available and helpful. The rooms themselves look like they are still in the process of being renovated. There are no baseboards or window trim in any of the rooms. The futon in the main room has very little padding left in it and is painful to sit on. I can't imagine trying to sleep on it. The bed upstairs is comfortable but small (double). The main concern was that there were no smoke or CO2 detectors. All of these things can be corrected with a little bit of upgrading but until then I'll be steering clear, even with the low rate.

Owner's Response: HOSTS BEWARE... It seems this inspector failed to notice the smoke alarm above the microwave. We'll get on those baseboards, but don't worry future guests, our rates won't be increasing. Hosts, this guy is going to inundate you with questions and in the end, write you the same crap review he did for me. Best to decline his booking request and let him stay at a local motel.

Clean bargain based property.

  • 3 of 5

Property was clean and comfortable. Comparable to a no frill bargain based hotel. The yards are very small in this neighborhood so you can hear the dog next door barking and even conversations from neighbors talking on their patio.

Great value!

  • 4 of 5

Fabulous place & great value. The neighbourhood is wonderful- there are plenty of places to eat, drink, get coffee etc. The apartment itself was bigger than expected from the photos (especially the upstairs bedroom). The outdoor area was also great, we especially loved the little dog who makes herself at home if she comes to visit you (you can lock her out if you're not into dogs). I assume part of the reason the cost is so low for this place is that there's no cleaning fee- so be prepared to clean up after yourself and be aware that you're coming into someone else's clean up job.

Would highly recommend this place or stay here again if we come back!

Renters beware, just the basics here

  • 2 of 5

About a week before our arrival I checked the rental page and saw two new and pretty negative reviews that left me hesitant to contact the owner of the property. (They weren't there at the time of booking). It shouldn't be this way on homeaway. the floors were pretty dirty, my daughter couldn't crawl around even a little without her knees turning black. The kitchen has a stove, but only had one large skillet and one small skillet. So any plans we had for cooking meals to save money were thrown out. The downstairs bathroom clearly used to be a closet, which is fine except that there's no barrier between the bathroom and the storage space so you have to pee while staring at paint cans and whatnot, just odd. Additionally, the morning that we left I received a text message from the owner asking me to "clean up for the next guest that arrives later today." I already knew that we were supposed to put the towels and sheets in the wash and that was fine but I'm not a maid, I'm a guest and I shouldn't be the person responsible for "cleaning up" for the next people who arrive. I would not stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody else.

Owner's Response: Sorry we fell short of this guests' expectations. Hundreds of guests have stayed in the past and loved the place. Not sure how the little one got all dirty, the fixtures and floors are less than 2 years old and cleaned quite regularly. Besides, the listing doesn't allow children. Extra cooking utensils are stored under the cabinet. Most guests enjoy saving a few dollars with a waived cleaning fee by simply tossing towels/sheets into the washer before leaving.

The hosts were beyond exceptional. The house was exactly what we needed: close to food, two sleeping spaces, a nice shower. It wasn't lavish, but completely functional. Parking would have been a breeze in a car, a bit more challenging in a truck/trailer combo. Hosts were so nice that they helped us solve the parking puzzle each night.
