About Ellen Wilson

I grew up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with a passion for fly fishing. I own and manage Snake River Angler, the largest fly fishing outfitter in Jackson Hole and in Grand Teton National Park. I operate two retail fishing stores and employ over 20

full time Wyoming fishing guides.

My love of fishing and the ocean led me and my family to Islamorada for the best in salt-water fishing. My wife loves to fish and our 5 children love go out in the boat with us.

My mom, Ellen, will answer your inquiries. She might be out fishing but will get back to you ASAP.

Ellen Wilson purchased this house in 2009

Why Ellen Wilson chose Upper Florida Keys

I walked into the back yard of 118 Madeira, stood on the dock and saw a manatee swimming in the canal. I could also see schools of big mangroove snapper hanging out by the pilings. I have fished all over the world from Belize to Mongolia. I could not pass up the chance to buy Happy Tarpon after 22 years of visiting and fishing here. Islamorada is unmatched for the variety and access to backcountry and offshore fishing anywhere in the world. It is also a peaceful, private location for the family. Islamorada is good for the fisherman and the family with all the activities available in the area.

What makes this house unique

The variety of water activities is boundless with snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, stand up paddle-boarding, boating, wind surfing, kite boarding, fly fishing, reef fishing, and offshore ocean fishing. The beauty of the Everglade National Park is right out the back door. White herons sit on the edge of the pool and look in our living room window (!!) and the manatees come and visit regularly all winter. Ever since I saw my first 100 plus pound tarpon jumping out of the water with my fly in its mouth I have been in love with Islamorada and the Florida Keys.

Does not get any better

  • 5 of 5

we have spent many vacations in the Keys: from Islamorada to Key West. Happy Tarpon has it all! The photos don't show the whole experience. Perfect accomodations, pristine, with pool, boat dock and close to all Islamorada points of interest. Friendly, helpful owners made our stay even better. Don't pass this up>

The best!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, two daughters, a friend and I just spent 7 delightful nights at the Happy Tarpon House. Everything was perfect: the three bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, living room, and best of all the patio, pool, dock and access to the bay. We grilled on the patio and walked to our favorite restaurants and shops. We rented kayaks and stand up paddle boards for a week from Cowboy Outfitters up the street, they delivered them to the house, and we spent our days using them up and down the shoreline in back of the house. The views into the bay from the dock are beautiful. Watch the sun go down in the evening from the dock and patio. The pool is perfect and was used daily. You can walk virtually everywhere you would want to go in Islamorada from this house. Could not imagine a more convenient and beautiful place to spend a week.

So Happy At The Happy Tarpon

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Happy Tarpon for one week in September. There were five adults in our group (our grown children). The house was absolutely perfect for our trip. Everyone had plenty of space and the 3 1/2 bathrooms were really a nice extra for us when we were all trying to get ready to go somewhere. We rented a kayak and stand-up paddleboard and had a great time trying them out...when we could pry ourselves from the pool! We kayaked right beside three manatee near our dock. We saw double water spouts! We stayed up and watched "Sharknado" (found the DVD on the bookcase). We could hardly get my daughter out of the pool and really enjoyed the privacy of the back patio, dock and pool area. We enjoyed numerous sunsets, despite some rainy weather. It was really as close to perfect as I can imagine. The kids have already asked if we can make this an annual outing! Much thanks to the owner for their gracious hospitality and for sharing their lovely home with us. It was truly a vacation we will always remember. We all hope we can return sometime!

Paradise on the bay!

  • 5 of 5

This home is first class all the way! It is a beautiful home located right on the bay. Although there are other homes nearby, you feel like you are in your own personal paradise! We enjoyed beautiful sunsets nightly by the pool with the live bands playing at the Lorelei as our entertainment. Tropical fish swim along the dock area with a special visit from a mom and baby manatee. We brought our own canoes to explore the bay. This was our first visit to the keys and this home had everything and more for the 4 of us. We definitely hope to return again in the near future!
