Starlit evenings perfect for romance. A dance floor. Stargaze from the deck. Look, there's Orion! Folks love the privacy, quiet ... no traffic noise. And breathing pure air and drinking sweet, non-chlorinated water. The chalet is a comfortable base from which adventurous families launch serious explorations of Yosemite and the Sierra. Days begin with animated fly-ins of wild doves, stellar jays, dark-eyed juncos, grosbeaks and hummingbirds who come to enjoy birdseed on our deck. Guests watch happily from comfortable chairs in the Great Room. Squirrels join the party. Sometimes, wild turkeys and gray foxes. Deer cross the meadow. After Mother Nature's morning shock and awe, the bell sounds; time to peek through another window at one of America's richest historical periods. We head for Gold Country Mariposa to enjoy the California Mining and Mineral Museum or the History Museum, visit one of our state's oldest newspapers, and tour California's oldest active courthouse. History is alive in Mariposa!
Explosion of Beauty–Everywhere:
You don't have to wait 'til you arrive at Yosemite to be captured by nature's splendor. Starlit Chalet is surrounded mountain landscape, Ponderosa Pines, Oaks and Incense Cedars. There is a constant explosion of beauty outside every window. Put on your walking shoes, walk down the hill to the mailbox, turn right onto Jerseydale Road and walk up to the Sierra National Forest Fire Station. Drink in the trees, the meadows, the quiet, the dramatic terrain of the Chalet, the extravagant display in every direction. And, when the sun comes up again, get the birdseed from the pantry, sprinkle it generously along the deck railing and watch the joyful ballet of feathered and furried friends.
The only lights to distract at night emanate from the moon and billions of galaxies that populate a vast window to the Southern Sky. Our forest recently got a haircut to make it more healthy so, for the first time, we can see a tiny glow of lights from the B&B nearby but they don't affect the starry majesty of the heavens, all seen most nights from the redwood deck circling half the chalet. You don't need a Hubble telescope to enjoy the parade of the universe’s celestial extravagance – our star chart and binoculars will do the job just fine. The spacious kitchen includes custom cabinets and many appliances. The inviting tile bar connecting the kitchen and dining area is a great place to gather during meal preparation and cheer on the cook. And, if the cook is willing, throwing a few steaks on the barbie may be the perfect preparation for tomorrow's Yosemite hike or tonight's star party.
Dance Floor–Sandy Beaches: Your willing host, Paul, has hiked the Sierra Nevada for 20 years and can answer your questions about hiking trails. Paul also teaches Argentine tango for beginners. Se habla tango! The Great Room's comfortable seating can easily be moved to create dance space when the sun goes down. Bring your CD's and dancing shoes and enjoy your favorite dances with your favorite partner as the stars twinkle overhead. Set a romantic mood with the dimmable track lights. Feet sore from dancing all night? Relief is just 20 minutes away at Briceburg on the Merced. Cold water and sandy beaches for tired feet. A perfect place for swimming, picnics, hiking, kayaking, fishing and seeing wildlife. In May and early June, white-water rafting is available.

Se habla español. I spend my time traveling, writing, and producing documentary videos to help make the world a better place for children. Nature and photographing it are big interests. And when I'm at the chalet, hiking twice weekly with a local hiking group. Life is good! And I take being your host very seriously. I and my professional staff spend a lot of time making sure the chalet is clean, safe, comfortable and … spectacular.
Paul Weiss purchased this chalet in 2001
On my very first visit, I was stunned by the beauty of Yosemite and this entire area. That reaction continues today. This is one of the most beautiful areas on the planet and being able to share it with friends and family for so many years has given me a lot of joy. Now I get to share it with new friends, my guests. And what guests we have! From all over the world ... and all in love with nature. These are the folks who are going to save the planet!
Being so close to the beauty of Yosemite and the Sierra National Forest is everything! And at almost 4,000' elevation, our cooler chalet is a great plus in Mariposa's warm summers. I love to hike, enjoy good food and curl up on my favorite chair in the Great Room with a good book. Just being quiet in the presence of nature's majesty can be very healing. And being surprised by a deer or the whirring wings of a humming bird ... or looking up at night and seeing a billion stars ... all quite wonderful. And, when the mood strikes (and it often does) slipping a tango CD into the stereo and moving slowly across the dance floor as the music invades every pore of my body ... aaaaahh. What a wonderful world!
Our stay at Starlit Chalet was the best part in our trip.Everything is so well organized. It is perfect for a family trip. The location is also very near to the park and you could easily acess it.The kitchen is well equipped and everything thing is clean and spotless .
The best part of it is Paul lives near to the house and he is always there to help you out if you need anything.Paul is a great person and he helped us so much.It was really nice to talk and know him. I would highly recommend people to book this property if they want a nice stay near the park.
We loved the Starlit Chalet. Quiet, comfortable, and close to Mariposa for dining and drinking. The only drawback is that it's an hour drive to Yosemite. We had hoped it was a bit closer, but nonetheless enjoyed our stay.
This is a great place for a small group looking to stay near Yosemite. The owner is friendly and has great attention to little, but thoughtful details.
My husband, 15 year old son and I spent 4 days at the chalet after 3 days in San Francisco. It was the perfect contrast to the city, quiet, peaceful and serene. We loved the location, up in the mountains among the pine trees. A lovely way to start the day, having breakfast on the balcony with the squirrels and birds. Paul was a very gracious host. Everything we needed was to hand, from hairdryer to suggested hiking routes for Yosemite and the essential plastic ponchos for the rain. The park was amazing. The chalet is approximately equidistant between 2 entrances which worked in our favour when one was closed due to rock fall on the road. It was worth exploring both as the scenery was quite different between the valley route and forest route. It's such a wonderful place to explore. I only wish we had stayed for longer. My favorite thing about the chalet was the night sky. There is so little light around the chalet that you get a wonderful view of the stars. I have never seen so many. Don't forget to bring a torch for getting from the car to the chalet after dark!
My wife and I and our 3 teen-adult daughters flew into SF for the weekend and then spent a week at the Chalet. What a wonderful place!! Peaceful, quiet, beautiful views with every amenity you need. Every morning we saw birds, squirrels and deer just outside the back porch. The hummingbirds were quite feisty. Nothing better than a glass of wine at night on the back porch - the stars were as bright as I can remember seeing in a while - excellent Southern sky view! We spent most days in Yosemite walking and hiking. It was so nice to come back to the chalet after a long day - we all looked forward to to it each day. We grilled out a few times on the back porch (nice gas grill). The chalet was so nice and charming , my wife/daughters requested and spent an entire day just hanging out (something they rarely do on vacation). Paul, the owner, kept us informed (via e-mail) about the fires in Yosemite for a few weeks before we arrived all the way up through the time we left. He also kept us up-to date (via e-mail) about the wildlife in the area. We actually got to speak with Paul, a very interesting person. He is a great host and we truly enjoyed his home. It really felt like "home" for us. We enjoyed the stay, did not want to leave and look forward to our next trip to Mariposa, Yosemite and the chalet!
The Chalet was the perfect place for our multifamily trip to Yosemite. We so loved the serene woodland setting, we ate every breakfast and dinner here. It was a great time to talk and watch the wildlife outside. Bird seed scattered on the deck railing brought squirrels and birds, including wild turkeys. Also saw deer and a raccoon.
The chalet is amazingly well equipped, everything we needed including the bird seed. Liked the separate TV room, the wifi, laundry room, deck, abundant area info and the privacy of the bath and two bedrooms upstairs. The Pioneer Market in Mariposa was quite good. Paul, the owner, is really great. He made the rental procedure easy, provided great info about the house, the area and even the weather when snow closed the Tioga Pass.
The drive to Yosemite took about 40 min but was beautifil. The park itself is grand. Do the Sunday Brunch at the Awhanne and visit the Mariposa Grove, if time permits. Can't wait to go back.
Gold-panning, Zipline, Argentine tango lessons (when Paul is in town), 3 golf courses in area, including one in Yosemite
