Located on the Western Coast of Cape Breton, Margaree Harbour Guest House is a fully winterized, open concept, 3-bedroom, 1-bath home that overlooks picturesque Margaree Harbour with easterly views to the Acadian village of Cheticamp & the Cape Breton Highlands. Margaree Harbour village is a leisurely 10-minute stroll, which includes the Calvin United Church, Laurence’s General Store & Post Office and, most importantly, a wonderful, sandy, underserved, beach.

Amenities - Margaree Harbour Guest House has been equipped to allow guests to cook, entertain and relax as though they were at home. All linens and towels are high thread count and quality with spares available. Washer & dryer, microwave, stove, oven and dishwasher are all available. Proper cutlery, table and stemware are also provided. The house has wireless internet, dvd player and flat-screen TV and a BBQ on the upper deck for year-round use, located off of the kitchen.

The Margaree is a world famous Atlantic Salmon river, with runs commencing in early June to the season’s close on October 31st. Trout season generally commences on April 15 – Sept 30th.

Golf - Only 300m off the Cabot Trail, our Guest House is perfectly situated between the famed Cabot Links (30km West) and Le Portage (28km East) golf courses, while the first Atlantic Salmon holding pools, on the Mighty Margaree River, are only 8km away.

The Margaree Harbour Beach is a ten minute walk and the most convenient to the Guest House. Whale Cove Beach is just a shot venture 3 km to the west on the Shore Rd, while the often secluded Chimney Corner beach is also 8 km to the west. To the east, the popular Plage St. Pierre and Cheticamp Island beaches are 28km away.

While staying at the Guest House, there are endless opportunities to pursue. Live Music, Ceilidh & Square Dancing at the Normaway Inn. whale watching tours from Cheitcamp, folk art and regional art exhibits throughout the Cabot Trail, scenic drives on the Trail and, if visiting in Autumn, the Celtic Colours Festival to name but a few.

Why James Surrette chose Nova Scotia

As a repeat visitor to the area, primarily to salmon fish on the famous Margaree River, I have had the pleasure of renting a number of cottages over the past several years, including this one. When the opportunity was presented to own and share this with friends, family and other avid fisherman, hunters and those simply looking for a relaxing seaside getaway, I couldn't pass it up!

Lovely stay up in beautiful Cape Breton

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay here earlier this fall. (So amazing that we extended the trip an extra day!) The house was extremely clean and had a well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Everything we needed to cook and clean was readily available. We loved the open living room/dining/kitchen area and the views from the deck were amazing. It was a little chilly outside, but I made a point to spend a little time out there with my coffee every morning. The Duck Cove restaurant around the corner also had a lovely and convenient breakfast. The home was extremely comfortable and a great place to unwind after a day of fishing and exploring. My husband was a huge fan of the location as it was close to all of the lower salmon pools on the beautiful Margaree River. It was also a quick ride to all of the places we wanted to visit as it is right off the Cabot Trail. It was truly one of the best vacations we have had in a very long time and we will definitely consider staying here again for future trips up to beautiful Cape Breton.

Perfect spot for a fishing trip

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay in Margaree Harbour. Nice, clean and well maintained house. Great views too. The house is well stocked with lots of room. Close to all the lower salmon pools and an easy drive to the upstream spots when there's water in the river. Owner is on top of things and quickly responds to any questions. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Great location, comfy house

  • 4 of 5

How an owner reacts when something goes wrong is valuable info, so let me share our story. When we arrived at check in time, the promised key was unavailable. Appeared that the previous renters were having such a good time they'd mixed up departure dates and hadn't left yet or returned the key. It took a couple of hours to straighten out the situation and gain access to the house, which isn't a big deal in the scheme of things but made for a long day. The owner refunded our money for that night and sent cleaners the next day to get the house in tip top shape. He was very friendly and apologetic and we felt that was fair.

The arrival snafu was unfortunate because otherwise we very much enjoyed our stay. As the ad says, the beds are very comfortable, the view is beautiful, and we really loved the village of Margaree Harbor. The features of the house are well represented in the description and the pictures.

If we hadn't had the arrival mix up, it would definitely be a five star house. Although it wasn't the owner's fault, the cleaner/property manager should have realized something was amiss when they checked on the house after the previous renters' scheduled check out. And then we had difficulty for 90 minutes reaching the property manager despite trying all contact information (the property manager was very responsive in our earlier interactions, so this was surprising). We had that sinking feeling that we had rented something that didn't exist, but HomeAway was quite helpful in reaching out to the owner (who promptly got in touch with us) and explaining what they could do if the rental situation didn't straighten itself out. So, all in all, we were very pleased with the house, felt the owner treated us fairly when we encountered a difficult situation, and enjoyed the surrounding countryside very much. Just a tad disappointed that everything didn't go smoothly upon arrival.

Perfect

Spotless house, Cozy bedrooms comfy beds, lovely view from upstairs open concept living room/kitchen. Well stocked bathroom (TP, soap, towels) and kitchen (plates, utensils, glasses). Good WiFi. Couldn't locate the ironing board and iron, but made do without. Too chilly to visit the beach, but got our seafood fix at the Rusty Anchor restaurant in Pleasant Bay.

Altogether a wonderful stay in a beautiful part of the world.
