Bob Humble built this home in 1969. He loved this area and this house was his passion and hobby. He updated and maintained the home frequently. The home remains in the Humble family. This is a second home and very loved. The home is now owned by Bob's four children. We continue in his footsteps. Three of us live in NC, two in the Raleigh area and one in Greensboro and one in Boston, MA.. Our family is from Burlington, NC.
Lori Humble purchased this house in 1968
The house is directly on the ocean with a covered porch with rockers. The house is very comfortable and nicely appointed with everything you need for fun in the sun or shade! You can't get any better than the oceanfront views from this home. Our family has been coming to this area long before the house was built. We simply love the beach!
This is a one family home, from building to what you see now.
Our family stayed at humble by the sea for a week and had a great time. House has a lot of character and history. Location is great, right on the beach, short walk off the deck and around the dune and you're ready to go. The porch and rocking chairs can't be beat. It's not the taj mahal, but if you're looking for a comfortable, quiet, reasonably priced beach home, you will be satisfied. It's not that close to many restaurants, but not much of Oak Island is. Island Way has great food and is a short drive down the beach road. Lori will check in on you and make sure everything is going well during your stay. My kids loved it, and my wife and I did too.
We are a family of 4 with two teenagers and stayed here in March 2015. Maybe we got a bit lucky with the weather (18-20C) each day and usually sunny but even so, we would have found this a very relaxing place to stay. Proximity to local amenities is very good, a short drive to the local supermarket and other shops, not that we needed them much. Fittings and furnishings aren't modern (that's the only reason we didn't give it 5 stars - a close call) but that's really not a problem, everything was comfortable and we lacked for nothing. The linen package worked very well too. The location on the beach is, of course, fantastic and the main reason to visit. We assume it's very busy in summer but we had an abundance of peace and quiet in the week we were there. The tide goes out a fair distance so there's a huge amount of beach to play on or walk along; we even saw dolphins on two separate mornings. Communication with the owner was excellent, very helpful. Definitely recommend this place.
We had the best Spring Break beach getaway because of the accommodations at Humble By The Sea. The proximity of the beach from the house made it so convenient for us to care for 3 small children. The house itself was clean and well maintained and it included all of the items we needed to have a home away from home. The owner of the house was extremely flexible and accommodating to meet our needs and she was responsive to all of our questions and accessible at all times, which made us feel taken care of. We loved this place so much, we plan on returning every year to make this our Spring Break tradition! Thank you so much for sharing your home on the beach, we are left with wonderful memories and had the time of our life! ~Loren Reed
