Perfect Mix of Old and New

  • 5 of 5

Half old coastal cottage and half newly renovated vacation home, this was a great place to escape to. There were five of us, including two kids and my mother-in-law. There are three private bedrooms and space in some of the large common spaces for more folks to sleep, if needed. Lots of space and good light throughout. The views of the cove as the tide rolls in and out are ever-changing and beautiful. We walked the quiet roads around the cove area every morning and evening, went across the peninsula to the beach and historic site, down the peninsula to the lighthouse, and took the ferry out to Monhegan one day to wander around. We also spent a day over at the Botanical Garden of Coastal Maine near Boothbay, one of the finest gardens we've been to. The owners of the house have left clear and easy instructions on everything about the house and were wonderful and responsive. We don't get up to Maine every year, but we hope to return to this house in the future and recommend it highly.

Wonderful Home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful cottage for one month this summer! The owners were responsive and helpful throughout the whole rental process. The home is beautiful and very accommodating. We were not lacking for anything during our stay. It is also a great location for exploring the Pemaquid Peninsula. Highly recommend!

Wonderful vacation for 3-generation group; we loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We spent our wonderful week here with our son and his wife and our 6 and 2 yr-old grandkids. The house is as beautiful and comfortable as the pictures portray; we were especially delighted with the front room with all the windows looking out to the water. The layout also worked very well for our 3-generation group; plenty of room to stretch out. The kitchen was well appointed and made it fun and easy to cook all our meals there. The location was perfect for us! Hours were spent on two sand beaches just a very short walk down the road; one got consumed by high tide but had wonderful fine sand for digging and castle building during low tide, and the house came with a great supply of beach toys! We spent several hours at the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Reserve less than a mile away, and found delightful hikes nearby. Harbor Bay is very close by with a good sized supermarket and boat cruise departures, including a Puffin cruise.

Lovely house, friendly neighborhood, beautiful views, so much to do but so relaxing; truly a memorable vacation for us all!

You'll Love It!

  • 5 of 5

My four friends and I loved our stay in this cottage which has a great working kitchen, several locations to sit for a meal both inside and out, and plenty of sleeping and shower space. We walked the loop road several times a day to enjoy soft inlet water to crashing ocean waves and stars at night. Trips south to the Pemaquid Lighthouse and north to Round Pond and Damariscotta were within easy reach. We watched movies and listened to music on foggy days and sat out front for drinks on sunny Maine afternoons. I highly recommend this cottage. You'll love it, too. Rev. Carol Brink

Arts, Crafts, and Antiques: The entire greater Mid-coast area is filled with independently owned artist studios, galleries, craft shops, antique stores of all sizes and styles, stores selling products owners have collected from all over the world, and a good variety of restaurants.

Quiet, Historic and Civilization Nearby: This house is located in a neighborhood of period cottages still primarily owned and occupied by summering extended family members, with a some homes occupied year-round. The county has no mega-stores and no shopping centers, and a one-man post office within walking distance. The closest town, New Harbor, is located down the coast about 3 miles away. The New Harbor cove is a working lobstering harbor, and there is a very good, casual seafood restaurant on the dock. New Harbor contains a filling station, ice cream store, grocery store, restaurant, very good Made-in-Maine craft shop and a few other shops. Hardy Boat tours (Monhegan Island day trips, whale, puffin, sunset) leave from New Harbor. Pemaquid lighthouse (the one on the Maine quarter) and a historic stone fort are nearby and offer picnicking and fantastic views from sun up to sunset. The closest town of size is Damariscotta, 15 miles away on Route 1. It is historic, on a river and reversing falls, and offers many shops, restaurants, a library, book store, movie theater, Hannaford grocery store, and churches. The tourist town of Boothbay, on the next peninsula south, offers dining, shops, harbor activities, and the world class Coastal Botanical Gardens (fabulous children's area, plus large cultivated and woodland areas). Local churches/grange halls, and Boothbay, Damariscotta, Bath and Brunswick offer concerts, music festivals and plays.

Beaches, Kayaking, Canoeing, and Larger Towns: In addition to the Association beach, Pemaquid Beach, which is a wide sandy beach with parking, beach changing facilities and snack bar, is operated by the public park system. It is approximately 4 miles from the cottage. Kayak rentals, lessons and guided tours are available at several locations. Family owned Maine Kayak, located in New Harbor, approximately 3.5 miles from the cottage, offers short and overnight tours for all ages and skill levels. Many opportunities are available for canoeing on ponds, lakes, and streams.

The historic town of Bath is 40 minutes south. It has a beautiful little downtown area along the river, Bath Shipyard and a beautiful ship museum. The the town of Brunswick is next south. It is the home of Bowdoin College and the Maine State Music Theater (Broadway class shows). Bowdoin College also hosts a summer international music festival and other performance groups. Freeport, home of L.L. Bean and many outlet and specialty shops is about 1 hour south. Rockland and Camden, ocean-side towns with many shops, restaurants, and several museums are to the north on Route 1.

There are many farm markets and several wineries and breweries in the extended area. County fairs occur throughout the summer and fall.

Early autumns are normally sunny, warm, and BEAUTIFUL.

Other Activities: Tennis available in the town of Round Pond;

Golf: A semi-private golf course, Wawenock Golf Club, is located about 11 miles away, near Damariscotta.
