Private, Red Dog Cottage on Hamilton's Pond. Walk to Ocean Pet Friendly Construction was finished in October 2013. Knotty pine thru out the interior, with birch floors. Comfortable, functional furniture found in all the rooms. Not cramped, but with open, airy spaces.
There are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and private bath. The master bedroom has a tub\shower combination, and French doors with a small porch. The second bedroom has a queen bed also, large shower in the bathroom, and bright windows. There are TV's in both of the bedrooms, with dish channels.
The main room has French doors with a small covered porch. Two sofas, tables, and a TV. The kitchen is set up with a gas stove, spacious refrigerator, and dishwasher. Cooking and baking tools are found in the cupboards, along with small appliances. Room for movement and comfort.
The house is located on the back side of Hamilton's Pond, off Norway Drive. A quiet, private, spot, yet accessible to the center of Bar Harbor by the free bus system, Island Explorer. Just a short walk to Route 3 is the bus stop. Eagles and osprey soar above the pond and call to each other. Beautiful location.
The house is spacious and welcoming. There's even blueberry pancake batter ready for the next day's breakfast.
There's a canoe to explore the nearby lake - paddle around to find the inlet and outlet for the lake. There's a nearby lobster shack that has the best lobsters at the most reasonable prices. There are horses in a nearby coral that love slices of cored apples.
All in all a great week was perfect with the trips to Acadia, the towns around,.and the stay at this place. I highly recommend it to you.
We really enjoyed our stay at Dana's Cottage. It was so clean and well kept. The beautiful wood interior, along with the furnishings, gave it the feel of a "home". We were there with family and the large kitchen/great room was perfect for visiting each evening. While we did not cook during our stay, the kitchen is furnished with everything you need for cooking meals. The owner has given great detail to providing everything you need for a perfect home away from home. It was a special treat to watch the horses out back each evening. Also, several evenings the deer were out and marched through the yard. We would definitely choose to stay here again!
As we walked into the home we were greeted by blueberry pancake mix and syrup, just what we were looking for when we got to Maine. Dana, the owner, was very attentive to our needs, and provided a warm and very clean home. The home was comfortable and had everything we needed. We greatly enjoyed our stay, and look forward to coming back again.
We had such a fabulous stay at this cottage! The location is very nice, close to the main road and Bar Harbor as well as most other areas of the island, but still quiet and private. We had a great time exploring around Acadia National Park and were always within 20-25 minutes of "home" :) The house itself is just lovely! The inside is perfectly finished with beautiful pine everywhere, comfortable and homey furnishings, and all the amenities we could want. We especially appreciated the owner's provision of all the little extras that made settling in for the week effortless (plenty of hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues etc so we didn't have to worry about running right out to the store to get those things). I really loved the unique pieces (a pretty wall cabinet in the dining area, a vintage metal table in the laundry area, interesting artwork and photographs throughout the home) that made the cottage feel like a place that is loved and lived in, a real home. The outside area is wonderful as well. There is a nice fenced in yard that our kids and dog enjoyed (though the dog did manage to escape, something to note if one has a dog who won't come back when called). The resident animals were a big attraction for our kids also - there are two horses, a friendly kitty, and a sweet-as-can-be dog living on the property (just down the road) with the owner. My 2 y.o. daughter was thrilled to feed chopped up apples to the horses each day and would go outside to see the dog and cat whenever they came with owner to help her feed the horses! We will have such fond memories of our time at this cottage, and we certainly hope that we can return one day :)
We can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was in August. We had been looking forward to bringing our little 1 1/2 year old daughter to visit Acadia and Dana helped to make our trip magical. Her cottage was so beautiful and comfortable. After the 15 minute drive back to the cottage from Acadia, it felt like we were arriving home. Our little one loved saying hello to the 2 beautiful horses each day. Dana was so warm and welcoming. We hope to return soon!
This was our third time we visited Acadia, NP. We decided to try Dana's place for the week. We were so pleased and had a fabulous stay! We didn't want to leave. She went above and beyond with everything you could possibly need for a stay. Our visit was a very relaxing stay, and much enjoyed escape from a busy work schedule. Her home is close enough to Acadia NP while being away from the hustle and bustle. We hiked, biked and explored Acadia and the surrounding area. Our pup Aspen enjoyed playing fetch in the yard, swimming in the pond as well as having her first introduction to horses! I won't go into how immaculate Dana's home is as you can read and see that from other reviews. We miss waking up with our coffee, sitting on the porch and watching the horses wander peacefully. My husband took our vehicle to go to Baxter State Park (3 hr drive) and do an epic all day hike. Dana's place is close enough that you can walk to catch the Island Shuttle bus and still enjoy the day if you don't have a vehicle. Aspen and I explored the hiking in Acadia NP that day. Her place was only a one mile easy walk to the Campground shuttle pick up area. A true gem of an escape from it all and we would definitely return.
