About the property

Private, Red Dog Cottage on Hamilton's Pond, Walk to Ocean, Pet Friendly

Private, Red Dog Cottage on Hamilton's Pond. Walk to Ocean Pet Friendly Construction was finished in October 2013. Knotty pine thru out the interior, with birch floors. Comfortable, functional furniture found in all the rooms. Not cramped, but with open, airy spaces.

There are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and private bath. The master bedroom has a tub\shower combination, and French doors with a small porch. The second bedroom has a queen bed also, large shower in the bathroom, and bright windows. There are TV's in both of the bedrooms, with dish channels.

The main room has French doors with a small covered porch. Two sofas, tables, and a TV. The kitchen is set up with a gas stove, spacious refrigerator, and dishwasher. Cooking and baking tools are found in the cupboards, along with small appliances. Room for movement and comfort.

The house is located on the back side of Hamilton's Pond, off Norway Drive. A quiet, private, spot, yet accessible to the center of Bar Harbor by the free bus system, Island Explorer. Just a short walk to Route 3 is the bus stop. Eagles and osprey soar above the pond and call to each other. Beautiful location.

Very nice.

  • 5 of 5

Dana maintains a very clean and well-furnished vacation home. She seems to have thought of everything a traveler might need.

The home is well located near Bar Harbor giving guests good access to all of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. We enjoyed our stay. If we return to MDI again, we would like another stay in Red Dog Cottage.

roomy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Red Dog was a great rental! It was roomy, comfortable, pleasant and well equipped. We enjoyed the quiet location, away from the Bar Harbor frenzy but with easy access to wherever we wanted to go. We also enjoyed paddling a circuit around the pond (lovely), stargazing, and keeping an eye out for deer frequenting the apple trees. Thanks Dana, for sharing your place!

Perfect stay!

  • 5 of 5

We just came back from a week on MDI staying at the Red Dog Cottage. We really enjoyed our stay and the cottage was perfect. We had our dog with us and she loved exploring and the fenced in yard was great for her to go out and relax in. The cottage was very clean and well appointed making it easy to have some home cooked meals. The location is perfect for easy exploration of the entire island, but close enough to Bar Harbor for quick trips into town. This was our first time to MDI and Acadia and we hope to return many times. Dana was great and even gave us her Benadryl when our dog stung by a bee on a hike.

Comfortable and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at Red Dog Cottage on Hamilton Pond and it won't be our last. The house is very comfortable and situated nicely so it is convenient to the entire island without being in a crowded, busy area. Dana is so friendly and easy to talk to, looking forward to our next visit.

20th anniversary trip

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week-long stay at Dana's beautiful cottage. I can't say enough about this charming place. We arrived at sunset after a 13 hour drive and immediately felt like we had come home. She keeps this place immaculate! We traveled with another couple, so it was wonderful for each of us to have our own bedroom with a private bath. We picked up supplies at the local Hannaford (grocery store) and made breakfast each morning. Whatever you will need for cooking is in the beautiful kitchen. There is even a Weber grill outside for grilling! Each morning, we would say high to Nicky and Rita (the adorable horses) while enjoying our coffee on the porch. We never tried out the canoe - Hamilton Pond is right next to the property. Having a washer/dryer at the cottage was great - we came home with clean laundry!!! We enjoyed just hanging out in the cottage, playing cards, after fun-filled days of exploring Bar Harbor and doing excursions. So peaceful and serene!

Recommendations for Bar Harbor and the surrounding area: Do the Acadia Fishing Tour in Southwest Harbor (had 32 people and nailed about 400 fish!) - very knowledgeable and the fish was wonderful! Hiked Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park and ate lunch in the restaurant. Drove to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Went on the whale watching tour (very cold so be prepared!) and saw Minke whale, porpoises, and harbor seals. Walked out to Bar Island at low tide (this is a MUST!). Ate dinners at the Chart Room, Paddy's Irish Pub, got lobster from the lobster pound (Travelin' Lobster). Visited Atlantic Brewing Co (in Southwest Harbor) and Bar Harbor Cellars. Very cool! So, so much to do!

All in all, we had the most memorable time celebrating our 20th anniversary. Bar Harbor is amazing and will remain close to my heart forever!

Great home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful location for access to both sides of Mt. Desert Island. Quiet and peaceful. Perfect space for us with a toddler to run around, see the horses, and takes naps while we enjoy the outdoor space. The Keurig coffee maker and mugs with kids were very much appreciated for coffee on the go.
