Beautiful Duplex at the Dunes in Fort Morgan

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,750 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms , 3 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

This home, known as Dune Bug, is a professionally decorated duplex nestled in the Dunes subdivision, a gated community, on the Gulf Of Mexico 9/10th's of a mile from the historic Fort Morgan. Both the subdivision and the house are very family friendly. Dune Bug is located 5 houses from the community pool and the beach is approx. 100 yds from the community pool.

Dune Bug is a 2 story house with a queen bedroom on the first floor with its own entrance, TV and private bath with shower. Next to it is the kitchen that is loved by all who cook. Great gathering area for the family members or if the kids want to snack earlier sitting at the bar. The owner leaves a modest supply of spices for the designated cook. To complete the cooking process there is a Weber charcoal grill under the house. The kitchen is open to the dining and living area and open to the deck where you can view the natural wetlands, sand dunes and Gulf of Mexico with an almost unobstructed view of the Gulf.

The second level of the house has 2 bedrooms -- the Master bedroom with a king bed, tv, dvd/vcr, This room has it's a private bath with an oversized shower and a deck that has a breathtaking view of the Gulf.

The other side of the 2nd floor is the Bunk room with twin bunks and a daybed and its own bath with tub and shower. Room enough to put a couple of air mattresses for all the kids to share in the same room and watch TV.

The washer and dryer are located in the hall between the 2 bedrooms.

Bike riding is a wonderful sport in this low density area and you can ride down to the Fort and take the Mobile Ferry over to Dauphin Island and visit the aquarium, an estuary and another fort or just ride the wonderful bike paths on the island. Across the road from the Dunes is the Gulf Shores Marina where you can charter fishing boats, eat at the very popular Tacky Jack's restaurant, or visit a fun funky bar under the restaurant. There is also a small store for items you may have forgotten at home. Other restaurants in the area are back toward Gulf Shores, The Marketplace at The Beach Club and for fine dining, you can travel another 15 miles up the road and under the bridge is Acme Oyster House (a famous restaurant out of New Orleans.

For the golfers, there are 2 excellent golf courses right on Fort Morgan Rd. -- Peninsula and Kiva Dunes.

Long walks down the beach after a filling meal are a must! See the sunset, find seashells, see the little ghost crabs scurrying around for that evening meal on the beach and watch the beautiful array of birds we have in our area including the magnificent brown pelican. If you fish, you may want to just surf fish before the sun goes down and maybe grill your catch for early breakfast. Nothing like it! During the summer months you may witness a turtle nest hatching, depending on when you visit. Turtle season begins May 1 and ends Oct. 31. An experience you will never forget!

For those who want a laid back vacation without all the hustle and bustle of high rises and lots of people, this is the perfect spot and a vacation you will always remember.

About Jeannette Adrey

I have owned property down at Fort Morgan since 1989. Dune Bug is my second property I had built in 2000 when The Dunes was being developed. I looked up and down the peninsula but kept coming back to the Fort Morgan area.....quiet, serene, low density and very natural. I am semi retired and live up in a small town called Spanish Fort near the Mobile Bay, with my little dog, just north of The Gulf area.

Jeannette Adrey purchased this house in 2000

Our home away from home!!

  • 5 of 5

We (family of 4 with 2 guest) have stayed at this house every Labor Day Weekend/Week and some spring breaks (week) since 2011. We so enjoy knowing it will be clean and if there are any problems the owner knows that we will let her know and she takes care of it promptly. The owner also allows us to bring our 2 little well behaved Yorkies. The house is not right on the beach but allows us to get a tiny walk in on our way to the beach--the beach is beautiful too!! We highly recommend this home away from home : ) It's our Favorite !!!!

Owner's Response: I wish all owners were as lucky as I am -- This family is so special and I look forward to their return every year. They take care of Dune Bug as if it is their own. Their pups are so well behaved too. This year was especially special -- Tropical Storm/hurricane came in during their stay because it was not going to be too bad and Dune Bug is set back on second tier with wetlands inbetween. We kept in touch with one another as long as we could and electronics still working. Steve send me a report of the condition of the house, inside and out, after weather cleared. Soooo special!!

Owner was AMAZING

  • 3 of 5

The duplex was beautiful. Owner was amazing. This was my first time to Gulf Shores, AL. If you are coming to swim in the ocean know that in the summer months jelly fish are prevalent. We couldn't even get in the water most of our stay unless we wanted to get stung:( There were thousands and they were EVERYWHERE. Very disappointing.

Owner's Response: D Thankl you so much -- So glad I could provide a lovely property for your vacation and I try very hard to make sure all of my guests are well taken care of and happy with Dune Bug. I wish I could say the same regarding the jellies this year, which truly was a phenomenon this summer. In all of my almost 30 years of owning property down at Fort Morgan, I do not recall an incident like this. I took the time prior to responding to your email to investigate this huge incident of jelly fish. I even called the Alabama Marine Resources to see if they could explain. The best info I could get was the very warm (warmer than usual) weather which heats up the Gulf waters along with the currents. Jellies like clear salty water which is exactly what they got the week of your stay and made for excellent conditions to move in mass to our beaches. This was up and down the Gulf Coast, and probably included the Florida coastal waters. I truly apologize for this inconvenience and hope this will not keep you away from our (most of the time) beautiful and inviting area as it is very special. J

Wonderful Family Beach Rental

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the Dune Bug! Jeanette was so helpful and always easy to contact when needed. This home is beautifully furnished, just a short walk to the beach, in a quiet neighborhood, and perfect for a relaxing family vacation. We would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: What a great family and hope they will return in the future! I love having families like this family. Unfortunately, one of my a/c's had a glitch in it which the guest reported and I had it addressed as soon as I could get someone out to the house. They were so patient and nice about the problem. An owner never wants anything to go wrong, but sometimes things happen and I was so fortunate to have this family as my guest. Thanks again, and I look forward to your next visit! J
