Located in the heart of the beautiful Pocono Mountains. The property is situated on a peaceful lake with access to many attractions for both the thrill seeker and the relaxer alike. The home comes complete with 4 full bedrooms, accommodating up to 11 guests, a L shaped sofa, 42' Plasma TV, along with a Wood Burning Fire Place. The property is a short, five minute drive to the popular Pocono Raceway and is located an easy fifteen minute drive from Camelback Ski Resort, which becomes an exciting water park in the summer months. Somewhere in between you will find Mount Airy Casino if you find yourself feeling lucky ... That's if you ever want to leave the house your entire stay. There is plenty to keep you busy at the lake house from paddle boats to the popular hammocks or try your hand at cooking on the gas grill over looking the picturesque lake. There is also a communal pool located on the development if you don't fancy the lake. This property really has something for everyone!
This house was one of the first to be built on Emerald Lake and was affectionately called 'Big Red'. From the water, with its redwood stain, it does look like quite a house. It isn't a huge house, but it has a great feel and layout. The bedrooms are spaced on the left and right side of the main living area which is a kind of sunken living area with a wall of glass overlooking the lake. The lake is fun to swim in right from the homes own dock, we had tire tubes which we launched mid-afternoon. We had a special tube for the cooler ;-) and we lazily spent the summer day taking the rays till the sunset. Then to the fire pit where we kept warm. Believe me when I say that even in the summer the evenings are quite cool and delightful...no air conditioning required here, even in July
Overall I am very happy with our stay at Camp bearfoot. This is a large house with 4 private bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and plenty of space for our family of 5 , or 7 with my parents as guest for 2 nights. The house is spacious and bedrooms are spread out 2 on each floor. Three of the bedrooms have a beautiful view of the lake, and either large windows, or a screen door to enjoy the cool evening breeze through the night. Two rooms had more than 1 bed in them so there were 7 beds total. Being a home that is not lived in by the owner some things need upkeep and repair, but it's a house that is rented weekly to strangers so that is understandable. We found the previous renters had left their mark leaving some trash and beer bottles in the yard. Some other things were not perfectly clean, but I felt comfortable with cleaning them myself. You need to bring your own sheets and towels anyway but I also washed the mattress protectors, and blankets we would need to use. I recommended the cleaning company get a phone call also. My dad and my husband didn't mind fixing a few minor things to better our stay as well. Andy was very professional and kind with a resolution to the minor issues we had. I was happy to send him pictures of everything he would be interested in fixing, because I'm sure some renters were not honest about damaging things in the past. However none of that had a negative impact on our stay .
We loved taking the boats and kayaks out daily. My husband & the kids enjoyed fishing as well. We bought a fishing license before our trip just in case it was necessary. Each evening we would sit around the fire pit and enjoy smores while reconnecting with each other. My favorite part other than just relaxing while watching my kids have a great time, was watching the deer graze right in the yard or across the lake. The evening stars , and beauty of nature is abundant at Camp Bearfoot. Even though we were a short drive to a Walmart, grocery stores, and restaurants it felt like we were out in the wilderness. We didn't see to many neighbors, and even thought we could see the Emerald Lakes estates private/ public beach it was quiet with no more than a few people there at a time. Note you will pay for and remove your own trash($5 ea. bag) at the trash compactor .Its open Tues/ Thurs in the week and on the weekend. FREE to recycle! We had a great time & if we are able to return I would give 5 stars for sure if the items I told Andy about are fixed.
The upstairs deck and floor plan was perfect for the dogs. The view was amazing. Along with backyard ,beach and dock. The owner allowing for dogs was perfect. It was a true family vacation with our beagles with us. Only bad thing was we had 4 days of rain.
Just returned from our second vacation at Andy's house and we had a great time! The outside area is wonderful. We spent most of our time on the beach while the "kids" were playing corn hole in the yard or fishing, floating or boating on the lake. There were 10 of us there for most of the week. The "kids" ranged in age from 16-21 and they all had a blast too. One day we all jumped in boats and went across the lake to play volleyball. The large dining table was nice for games and eating and fit all 10 of us comfortably. Andy was very helpful from start to finish. We found a clogged drain in a tub, let Andy know and the plumber was there the next morning.
The house is in need of a few minor updates, but nothing that stopped us from enjoying our vacation.
There were so many wonderful parts of this property that it's hard to pick which was the best. We had seven adults (ranging from 27 - 78), an infant, and a dog yet the house had ample room for all of us to gather together both inside and out. The house itself had exactly the rustic "lake house"/lodge feel that we were looking for for our mountain vacation with a beautiful and spacious upper deck - perfect for sunrise coffee or sunset cocktails! The inside amenities were plentiful including a well equipped kitchen and dining room, washer/dryer, large TV (although we never even watched it), a full wall of windows looking out onto the lake, extra pillows, comfortable beds and more. While the house is not air conditioned, there are ceiling fans in the living space and portable fans in all the bedrooms. We were there during a horrible heat wave and we were pretty comfortable during the day and actually very cool at night. The best part of the property though has to be the outside. There is a lower level patio (with a porch swing) leading out to a vary large yard and the lake. There are kayaks, paddle boats, a row boat and all the associated gear, a charcoal grill and numerous chairs and loungers right at your fingertips. We especially enjoyed fishing, swimming, and boating in the lake but our favorite activity was sitting around the fire pit down by the lake most nights under the beautiful sky, just being together. As if all this wasn't enough, the location could not be better. The property itself is very private within its lake community, but it is central to numerous activities in the surrounding area - breweries, wineries, hiking, waterfalls, water parks, shopping, dining and so on - if, in fact, you even want to leave the house. This review wouldn't be complete with out a word about the owner, Andy Burns. From our very first inquiries through the trip planning, right up to our arrival at the house, he could not have been more responsive and helpful. This was our first experience with vacation rentals so we had LOTS of questions. But Andy actually anticipated many of them and sent us a very comprehensive set of hints/instructions/directions/advice. He was awesome - made the experience seamless and stress free. We highly recommend both this property and its owner for a terrific Poconos experience.
Couldn't be happier with our stay. The house had absolutely everything we needed including enough boats to make a small armada! We fished, we grilled and we sat by the fire. The host was very responsive and the price is reasonable. There is nothing more we could have asked for. Thanks for a memorable getaway from me and my friends!
I've never written a review in my entire life, but this weekend get away was absolutely amazing to say the least. This home slept 10 people comfortably with plenty of space to move around. The yard and view was stunning! I wIll definitely be planning another vacation to stay here again soon. Andy was a pleasure to work with, answering all my questions promptly. Thank you again Andy for extending your home to my family and I!!!!
