Enjoy a Taste of Abundant and Resilient Living

Just 1 km off S H 1 between Otaki and Levin, at 107 South Manakau Road. A farm building converted over 4 years with love and friendship into a warm and comfortable self-contained Eco-Cabin for your enjoyment. It has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and indoor and outdoor living spaces, next to a bio-filtered swimming pool and food forests. You will be on a 50 hectare organic farm with hills of native forests (QE II covenant) and plantations. You can wander along tracks and bush walks with wide views from Mount Ruapehu and Taranaki to Kapiti and the South Island. Also close to beaches and Tararua Range entries.

We have a small working farm, to provide healthy food and water from a healthy and diverse environment. There are free ranging pigs, hens and ducks, extensive grazing of sheep and cattle, orchard trees, vegetable gardens and grain crops. There are lots of trees, for shelter and habitat, and sustainably coppiced woodlots for firewood, timber plantations and forest wilderness.

The cabin is part of a farm building, made of local natural materials, including timber, earth and stone, with earth floor and earth plaster wall finishing. On-site services of spring water, ?waste? re-use, compost and flush toilets, wood range, wind and solar power. All cotton sheets and towels, wool rugs, etc.

Come and relax in an abundant and healthy environment, and enjoy the fruits of the land at our place. We will provide you with a breakfast basket of our own organic or local produce.

We loved the property & appreciated all the care & thought which had gone into constructing it & our stay, fresh eggs milk, freshly made bread all organic etc went towards us feeling very welcome, the surrounds were beautiful I particularly loved the peace & quiet and not forgetting the exceedingly friendly piggies, the wealth of knowledge they have on permiculture food forest biodynamics. A great place to recharge the batteries & be inspired. Thank you

The cottage and surrounds are beautiful. Got some good ideas about eco-building. Found it comfortable, clean, and a lovely space to unwind in.

A beautiful, restful place in a beautiful, restful setting.

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful, restful place in a beautiful, restful setting. We loved the comfy beds and the birdsong, and the pigs that flop over and go to sleep when you scratch behind their ears. We were very lucky, as Nellie had her piglets on the last night we were there - the kids were in heaven. Take your slippers if it's cool, as it's a shoes-off bach with hard floors. Warm though, with a great fireplace.

The location is so ideal for us travelling from Wellington.

The location is so ideal for us travelling from Wellington. Only one hour drive from home, we were embraced by hills, forest and farm animals. Beaches, restaurants and shops are all so easy to reach. The guest house is so cosy with eco-designs and arty taste. We enjoyed very much the bush walks right on their property. The walks were accompanied by their lovely dog, Zaza. Our little boy coudn't stop asking about her since we are back home:)
