Description

Tararua District House Rental Photos and Description

Bach or holiday home, 4 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 8)

A large character house on a large section. This house was originally built in 1886 and is one of the oldest in the village. The house has been host to the local Doctor, rural posty and numerous farming families of the region. We have modernised the house while retaining the character and feel that came with the era it was built in.

Over the past 8 years it has undergone extensive refurbishments. The house is short walk to the beach, pub or golf course. The beach is 10 kms of golden sand, with great fishing, diving and areas of safe swimming. This location offers a great place to unwind and take in the stunning Wairarapa coast. It also has a fantastic golf course and local cafe. The coast has a great reputation for longline fishing, and we speak from experience when we say that the gurnard and kahawai along this coast are some of the biggest you will catch!

Close to the area is Akitio, with the possibility of a drive over Akitio station through stunning scenery if you gain permission. You might also fancy a short drive to Porangahau or maybe the easy drive to either Dannevirke or Waipukurau to check out the local eateries!

A large and noisy seal colony hauls out at the famous Cape Turnagain. From here you can see where they used to barge supplies to shore and take wool to waiting freighters. When the sea conditions are right you can also get a feed of fat paua, or if keen take your tanks and find crays only a short distance off shore.

The house is warm with a large wood burner and stacks of firewood so offers a comfortable stay regardless of the weather. There are plenty of games and books. It is a great house to relax, unwind and enjoy the rural surroundings. All the bedrooms are large and warm. The bathroom and kitchen have recently undergone renovations and are clean and modern.

Large fenced section is great for kids and the dog. Pets are by prior arrangement.

There is plenty of off street parking for extra cars or the boat.

Special conditions:

The house has undergone extensive refurbishment but we still have work to do! The interior is largely complete but if unpainted gib or uncarpeted floors offend, then this house is not for you!

Smoking is only permitted outside and guest must clean up any butts.

Max 4 adults.

There are two fridge/freezers in the house for larger groups or extended stays.

We prefer family groups or couples where possible.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

Great family property, warm and cosey with wood fire, plenty of room for family gatherings and the grandkids loved the toys when they came to visit. We would definitely stay again and look forward to seeing how the renovations progress.

Family really enjoyed our stay.

  • 4 of 5

Family really enjoyed our stay. Wonderful warm house, good job with the insulation, and an amazing fire. Granddaughter thought she was in heaven with all the toys. fantastic amount of space no tripping over each other. A very good place to just go and relax and walk on the beach. We hope to return at some stage. An adventurous 1 hour drive from Dannevirke, great views all around, enjoy the journey.

Nice spot but the house needs to be cleaned on a regular basis - can not really rely on paying guests to do this. We were happy to clean what we used on the way in and the way out - thanks
