About Patti Reckart

Our family fell in love with The Shaver's Fork of The Cheat River. We live close by in Elkins, WV and love to get away to fish, float and relax at the river. I am originally from New York and my husband is a native West Virginian. We have two beautiful children.

Patti Reckart purchased this house in 2010

Why Patti Reckart chose West Virginia

River Star is a great location. It has one of the best locations to access the river. It is a gradual access (I call it my river beach) into a great swimming hole. The river has riffles above and below our swimming hole. The property also has a beautiful trickling creek that runs through the property. Kids love to play here as well as in the river. The property boasts three lots, with a lot of room to play yard games or pop a tent.

Nice house with fun activites included

  • 5 of 5

We did a motorcycle ride with 6 guys in the end of August. Initially this house was overlooked because we didnt think there was a garage but after emailing Patti and getting a prompt response telling us there was a garage we booked this house. In the past we have stayed at hotels and other cabin/houses but there was nothing more to do there then sleep and relax. At this house which sits right next to the river there was fishing (we caught a total of 4 fish in about 1 hour of fishing) also ladder ball and corn hole boards & bags. This gave us something to look forward to when we got back to the house other than relaxing. This house sits on a quiet road with only a few neighbors and is about 5 minutes from Elkins which had groceries/fuel/restaurants. This is the 4th year we have done this ride down into WV and because of this house it was the best so far. I would say bring bug spray being right next to the river but even without it they weren't that bad. We will definitely be going back if available.

Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We had a relaxing time at River Star. There are a lot of things to do in that area near Elkins, WVA so we were able to do small day trips and return for a relaxing cup of coffee and s'mores by the fire pit. Our daughter kayaked and it was nice for her to just walk out on to the back yard and right in the Shavers Fork. We had dinner at CJ Maggie's down town. Prices were very reasonable, selection was great, and the portions were huge. Service and atmosphere was very relaxing. The home was clean and well-maintained, amenities all accurate and Patti was eager to help and easy to work with. We enjoyed our stay at River Star. Prayers to the folks in West Virginia struggling with flooding. It is very much a caring state who really look after each other.

Awesome Location

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 families stay at River Star for a long weekend. The house was very well kept and the view could not have been more amazing! There is nothing better than morning coffee on the river! The kids had a tremendous time at the river, roasting hotdogs and marshmallows, and just being kids in the great outdoors! We would definitely recommend a stay here for anyone looking to visit the area and wanting the peace and the serenity of the river nearby. Close enough to Seneca and Spruce Knob for day hiking trips too!

Thank you so much!!

The River Star Made For a Great Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our long weekend at the River Star was a perfectly relaxing time with all the house had to offer. The kids didn't touch electronics for the entire stay because they were busy floating the river, searching for frogs and crawfish, skipping stones, roasting marshmallows, etc. while the adults relaxed by the fire, enjoyed the hot tub, and making mountain pies. My favorite part was waking up early and enjoying a nice cup of coffee by the river watching the trout rise to the surface chasing hatching mayflies.

The owner was tremendous in responding promptly to any questions and was very helpful and friendly.

We will definitely be heading back to this home the next time we want to get out of the city and relax on the river.

The property was "as advertised" and more!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I spent a few days at River Star for our annual fishing weekend. The place was GREAT. We were definitely impressed upon entering the house. It was very clean and well kept. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pans, utensils, etc. The open floor plan was great for socializing. the house sits on the banks of Shaver's Fork of the Cheat River. We were able to head straight to the river and begin fishing. We were able to wade the river and caught some fish. There is plenty of outdoor space and seating for relaxing. The owner was very receptive to an early check in time for us and communicated well with me through the booking process. She emailed me to make sure we found the house ok, and even emailed me after we left to make sure everything was acceptable for us. We will definitely be booking this property for our trip next year.

Wonderful property!

  • 5 of 5

I met up with friends for a girls weekend here and it was perfect. The three bedrooms and bathrooms allowed each of us to have our own space and the common areas were very comfortable for our time together. We spent quite a bit of time in the Adirondack chairs overlooking the river - it was so peaceful. The fire pit offered a great gathering place in the evenings. It was a fantastic trip!
