Built in the 1870's, this historic self-contained cottage was the first building on the Longwood site and was where the builders of the original homestead resided while it was under construction.
The architecture is classic colonial and it has been furnished in keeping with the period.
The dining/living area is heated by a potbelly stove, and the kitchen has a modern stove, microwave and fridge. The bathroom has a clawfoot bath.
There is a small verandah with chairs and an enclosed garden.
We are situated 3 kms from Featherston on a 43 acre farm up a long tree-lined drive. It is about 7 mins to Greytown and 10 mins to Martinborough and the vineyards. Lake Ferry is about half an hour, and Cape Palliser, one hour.
Basic tariff is for one bedroom either single or double.
Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;
A very enjoyable stay at a historical place. And a wonderful host and beautiful setting!
We had a wonderful stay at The Gamekeepers Cottage. The cottage is in a beautiful setting and has a wonderful rustic charm - we loved the luxurious claw foot bath and open fire. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway close to everything Wairarapa has to offer :)
Fantastic little cottage. Set in a beautiful farm area with plenty of wildlife and fresh air. Great place to go if you are looking for peace and quiet.
A beautiful cottage - full of character. One of the highlights of our stay in New Zealand. Would thoroughly recommend it.
