Whangaroa House Rental Photos and Description

Bach or holiday home, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 2)

Romantic Eco-cottage, ideal for a couple or privacy-loving solo, but can sleep children (enquire- there are 3 best-quality camp beds available, a baby cot, and tent). Seaviews from bed!

New for Xmas 2016: an outside bath with bubbles, under native trees and tree ferns, with Waitapu Bay waters right there in view; and utterly private!

Library of books and travel advice; games, cards; hammocks; bird whistle; wood-burning inside stove; fire-pit, firewood.

There is a wide and easy walkway 100m along to the harbour waters of Waitapu Bay; at high tide, step off the land into knee-deep water: this is the perfect spot to swim or fish, or go kayaking (kayaks provided); at low tide, walk along the foreshore under the aged pohutukawa trees and pretend you are Robinson Crusoe.

Approximately 50m away from the cabin is a large macrocarpa seating bench with sea and yacht views, where not even birds notice one; and a wood-fired barbecue is also provided for outdoor dining. NEW: Weber Baby gas BBQ provided!

The 400m flat access road is lined with newly-planted native trees and flaxes, ideal for a morning/evening stroll.

The sewerage system is completely eco-friendly. Two huge water tanks hold an ample supply of drinking, showering and bathing water.

Orcas and dolphins often enough seen in the harbour. Big Game fishing - marlin, etc- a local speciality.

Fish from the property, or from the wharf: fish regularly caught include John dory, snapper and kahawai. Ocean sailing charters, art and crafts outlets, kauri forests, all await you.

Walk up St Paul's Rock or stroll the 1.5kms down to the local Marlin Pub or Fishing Club, both with restaurants.

Lovely beaches at Tauranga Bay (15 minutes' drive) and Taupo Bay for surfing (40 minutes' drive). Thai, Indian, and Fish and Chip restaurants within a short drive away.

Longer walks: to Lane Cove hut 2 hours; the Mahinepua Peninsula Coastal Walk (1.5hours). Other great walks: Taratara Boulders, Puketi Kauris.

Special conditions:

Smoking is only allowed outside the eco lodge.

2 Nights Minimum: BUT if only one night stay suits you, then please enquire of Terry your host if that is convenient for him; a NZ$ 50.- surcharge will apply.

Powered solely by solar panels.

La Grange is ideal for a single person or a couple, but children can be accommodated on quality adult camp beds; and a baby cot is available.

Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;

Loved this place! What are perfect spot.

  • 4 of 5

Loved this place! What are perfect spot. I specifically loved all the small details and effort Terry has clearly put into making the place awesome. Birds are so tame in this area and the view spectacular! I highly recommend a stay here!!!!! You will definitely need a 4 wheel drive to access this place, but it is well worth it! We had a great time!

Exactly what we were looking for.

  • 5 of 5

Exactly what we were looking for. Perfect for 2 ! All the Eco appliance work perfectly ! No worries about power, the solar panel works great. The place was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure. We could really see that he love and that he is proud of his property. The only down side that we notice is that the hot water in the shower (boiling at first) started to run out quickly after the second day... but yay .. that's nothing when you are in this little paradise !

Owner's Response: Oh dear Silvy!- my fault, for not explaining how to change gas-cylinders behind Grange; when water runs cool, then a flick of the switch brings a new gas supply on line!- sorry! -je m'excuse! Next time I will show you...and how to get hot water to the outside bathtub, fit for 2 people; and I have now the open outdoor fire to sit around and see stars above and sparks at your feet!

If you love nature, this is definitely the place for you.

  • 4 of 5

If you love nature, this is definitely the place for you. It's surrounded by bush with views of the Whangaroa Harbour. We had a resident Tui who interacted with us daily. Got to pick some nice oysters off the rocks only a short walk from the Grange. The Grange is basic but that's all you need when you're located in paradise! We'll be back!

Owner's Response: 'Basic' got to me: La Grange is anything 'but': only 5 years old, it has insulation and warm tri-board lining; slip-proof shower/WC linoleum floor; has 3 metre concrete platform outside around it; two large tables, one in and one out; has 6 chairs and two benches; and a comfy armchair; amenities like fridge and freezer, clothes washing machine, La Grange has a large library and selection of games, with bird-whistle and all; 2 torches; a 1.8m wide fire-pit and soon a 2-person outside bath.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! Absolutely no neighbours, surrounded by bush, birds and a stunning view of Whangaroa Harbour. Very modern little unit, ideal for a romantic getaway. Kayaks included which we used and experienced 6 dolphins showing off in front of us. Amazing place! Will definitely have to come back! I didn't want to leave. Thanks Terry! ??

Owner's Response: Hiya Ellie n Glen Much thanks for the rave review! And that you saw the dolphins tumbling was pretty cool!- a friend stayed down there in the Eco Cabin the night you left, also saw them, from the cabin itself- she thought I arranged that ! I saw my first orca from the main fishing jetty this year, right below me as it swam past after manta rays sheltering among the piles. Today i buy a brazier!- - many thanks for that idea! Let's hope to see you up here 'in the wilds' again soon!

Owner's Response: Happy Friday Lynnette it is hard work trying to do all this by myself!- just doing the computer bit is a drain on time. But i found time this week to buy a blue 2-person bath tub for down there: bay view, volcano view, under the pongas! And also went overboard and bought a Weber Baby BBQ thingie: easier than lighting the 'wooden' BBQ! AND a cast-iron fire pit, to sit around under the stars! See you back again soon?!

A very cosy and quiet place with everything we needed and great views.

  • 5 of 5

A very cosy and quiet place with everything we needed and great views. The location felt very secluded which fit us perfectly. We had a good time kayaking and hiking during the day. Enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace in the evening as well as the local ruru visiting the cabin at night.

Owner's Response: Hi Elvar Cosy is the word!- that wood-burning stove makes toast of the interior; well, hopefully not literally!- anyway, NEW inside is a Fire-Blanket in case fire gets out of hand; this joins the existing Fire-Extinguisher. AND NEW to be installed soon: an outside Bath (with Bubbles provided!) 25m away from Lodge, set under tree ferns with sea views (of course!). The ruru is NZ's native owl, aka Morepork from the sound it makes. Now with Spring here Quail families visit La Grange; and Wekas.
