About Shawn Hipp

My husband and I bought Hipp's Hideaway for rental purposes in 2001. We had been in the rental business for 18 years in St. Paul, MN, and thought we'd try something more 'fun'. We were able to get in on the building process add many of the finishing touches ourselves. As we were seasoned vacaton renters, we were able to keep the needs of renters in mind. Our goal was ... and is.. to make you feel like it is YOUR place during your stay......

We selected Hayward as a great rental area, then looked at 31 properties. We were always drawn back to Tiger Cat Cove. Yes, it was strong in all the basic 'investment oriented' things... large wooded lot, good frontage, good sized lakehome, but also had an amazing serenity piece that the others didn't. Our guestbook at the cabin can attest to this as well... come check us out!

SHAWN JOHNSON-HIPP (female)...

I get mistaken for a male all the time -- but it is less traumatic now than in 7th grade when I was assigned to the boys locker room for my PE class :) ....

Shawn Hipp purchased this house in 2001

Why Shawn Hipp chose Hayward

We were determined to invest in an area that would welcome us AND our guests, and Hayward fit the bill. There are tons of things to do right at the cabin, nearby, or in town. Great dining options abound. The superior water clarity into the fall, the sand bottom frontage, and the varied woods surrounding the property kept drawing us back.

What makes this house unique

Well paved backroads for walks and biking. Fun chain of lakes to explore +++ great fishing. Cabin comes with 2 canoes, a kayak and a paddleboat. Rent a stand up paddleboat in town!

Free evening concerts featuring the loons, accompanied by the bull frogs. Crickets will chime in as well. Suggested finale is to finish off your concert experience watching the dance & crackle of a lakeside campfire and take in the visual array of the evening stars and moon against the pitch black sky...

We built them ourselves + distressed them by carving the edges & putting nails in socks and whacking them! Fun project for all.

Better than we expected! Highly recommended!

We had a great stay at Hipp's Hideaway! The scenery is beautiful, everything was very clean and well kept, just as advertised. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for meals during our stay. The lake was very quiet and peaceful. The kids were thrilled with boating, kayaking, and great fishing. The owner was responsive and helpful with all of our questions. We hope to stay again next year!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words -- I'm glad we surpassed your expectations ! ( How can I do a better job of reflecting the true serenity of this property on my listing? I hear that all the time! ... Soft music playing while watching videos on hippshideaway dot com? ) You were great renters as well -- so it was a good fit. Stayed for 5 days with my group and every thing was SUPER!

3 bathrooms is wonderful when you have a group.

The setting is very senic and the location is away from highways and gives you that Up-North Wisconsin adventure. Thank You Shawn!

Wonderful getaway spot!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Hipp's, and won't be our last. The lake is so quiet and peaceful, and nice for swimming. Loved exploring rest of the flowage in the kayak, too. The cabin (house!) has everything you could need, and is very clean. Hayward is such a great area for outdoor enthusiasts, our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

Or check out another one of the many fall festivals in the area ==> the Hayward Fall Fest, Spooner Fest, Cable Fest, Sawyer County Fair, etc.! Did you check out Farmstead Cafe by us, too? Farm to table -- and fabulous. Worth a trip back :)

A True Northwoods Getaway!

Gorgeous Home with many amenities included. Everything you need to getaway from the day to day grind. The owners are very responsive and the place is very well kept.

Beautiful quiet lake - my kids loved canoeing and fishing right from the dock.

Campfires at night roasting marsh mellows and singing oldies.
