About Charlotte McIvor

We love all the UP has to offer and we are especially smitten with the small harbor town of Grand Marais as well as the beautiful area and the unique Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Hiking the North Country trail is a favorite pastime of ours. The wildflowers are numerous and amazing, as well as the waterfalls and beautiful vistas. The dunes are huge, the lake is clear and cool.

Cute little house in a quiet town

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed in Grand Marais for a weekend getaway in October. We were super excited to go kayaking at Pictured rocks while seeing the fall colors and see everything that the UP had to offer. Little did we know the winds would pick up and everything would be cancelled for the entire weekend (Just and FYI in case you are traveling in October). Regardless, we still got to see everything around the Pictured Rocks area (Sable fall is beautiful!) and even ventured out to Tahquamenon Falls. Everything was still beautiful in the wind and rain! Grand Marias proved to be a great middle spot to be able to venture out to both. The house was very clean and perfect for a laid back getaway. The owner was easy to get ahold of and had everything ready for us when we got there. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the lack of cable. It would've been nice to wake up and watch TV with breakfast or watch in the evening. There were at least movies and games.....and we had each other (ha!) so that was fun but a little TV would've been nice. Luckily the rain didn't put too much of a damper on being able to get out so we weren't at the cottage much, which is what I suppose most people do. So if you don't mind that then it's a perfect place for a great price.

Some other tips:

There is not much for food (restaurants and grocery) in the area. Not sure if it's because of the time we went or not (October). The only place for breakfast was a small diner. Food is great but takes awhile to get. If you are not in a hurry to catch a tour than it will probably be no big deal. When we were there a food truck parked down the street and we checked her out on the final morning. Fantastic! Awesome options for a great price (the donuts melt in your mouth). If she is there check her out!

Someone else mentioned no wine opener. That is very true and we are very thankful for that review. Ha! We brought our own and it was great. Maybe we missed it somewhere but just and FYI.

Perfect for our needs

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Campbell Cottage! We were in town for the kayak symposium and the location was perfect--right across the road from all of our activities, and short walk to the market too. The cottage was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed. Washer and dryer came in very handy, as did the clothesline out back for our wet gear. There was a gas grill in the shed that we cooked dinner on one night. The shower pressure was really good (appreciated when needed to warm up after practicing rescues in the lake). Beds were comfy. Games and dvd's also were nice for our teenager who came along. I would definitely chose this property again!

Perfect for our adventure

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect! Excellent location close to town, had everything we needed for our stay. House was clean and cozy for our group. Check out the falls nearby, the log slide and do the pictured rocks boat tour if the weather cooperates. The fall colors were phenomenal! We hope to return!

Campbell St Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage! Very cute and clean. Loved the decor, it went with the theme of the town of Grand Marias. It had everything you would need if you wanted to cook a meal at home. It is walking distance to Lake Superior and Brewery which had good food. There were people in town from all over the country. we took a short drive to Sable Falls and hiked down to the beach. Saw a bald eagle and looked at all the stones on the beach. All n all it was a wonderful stay. Highly recommend this place.
