About Jackie Clark
'Amy's by-the-Sea' has been in view of our family summer home since 1940 when my grandmother Amy Foote and my grandfather Bill, camped on this property in 1917. It was first built by the Forbes family and in 1984 was sold and then sold again in 2004. Finally, in 2011, my brother and sisters and I got together and bought 'Amy's' which has been a large part of our summer lives for over 60 years.
Jackie Clark purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Jackie Clark chose South Wellfleet
My siblings and I have been coming to this location since we were young children. Our father had been coming since he was 8 years old and used to watch the German glider pilots fly gliders off of the dunes of Maguire Landing. We were 'hooked' on the area from an early age just like our father was.
What makes this Cottage unique
We all love the peace, relaxation and nature of the area -- it engergizes us! The air is clean, the birds sing every morning, the berries are in bloom in mid-summer and you can hear the ocean at night. The moon and stars are spectacular and some of us have seen the Northern Lights from the ocean dunes.

We loved staying at this house. As other reviewers have said, it was close both to the ocean and the Rail Trail. We cooked and grilled in most days and it was extremely well supplied for that purpose. Huge back yard with gorgeous tall pine trees, which made it feel cooler than other sites we visited while on the Cape. And the back deck was lovely -- we spent half of our time there. Cannot recommend this place more
The house is as described and pictured. It's small but had plenty of room for us and our adult son. The location can't be beat--ten minute walk from a beautiful beach and a ten minute walk to the best bakery around. It was also an easy drive to the National Seashore beaches and countless restaurants. Communication was excellent and check in was easy as could be. We'd happily stay again!
Very pleased with location, close to rail trail and beach!
Location fantastic and house very comfortable
Location was great for either walking to the beach or to the French bakery. Biking or driving equally fantastic whether to Yoga, restaurants or nearby towns. House very comfortable and cozy. Thank you for a lovely and restful time.
A highly enjoyable experience!
The cottage is well cared for, comfortable and well located. It is close to the ocean, hiking, biking paths and good eateries. I especially appreciated the owners hospitality, and responsiveness, even from a distance. Overall, it was a delightful stay.
Great location but on
On the positives:
* The house is close to the National Seashore which was a big plus
* The house is very close to the end of Rail Trail (great for jogging and biking)
* The house is close to PB Boulangeries for great breakfasts and more (expect long lines)
* The kitchen is completely renovated (which we did not use)
* The owner Jackie is very attentive and responsive
On the negatives:
* The house sits on a semi-busy road and is hard to relax, especially at daytime
* The bedrooms and especially the bathroom are uncomfortably small, sometimes restricting free movement. They have not been updated like the kitchen
Overall 3.5 stars
Thank you for your review. The road to the beach does get extra traffic especially going late morning and coming back mid-afternoon. The cottage is a small Cape Cottage -- The bedrooms and the bathroom especially. We do point that out in the descriptions and in the photos captions. I equate the bathroom to the size one might find on a cruise ship. We were hoping to make up for that with the large private outdoor hot shower and the tankless hot water heater that has endless hot water. Years ago, the cottage and land were referred to as "camps." The National Park restricts expansion of a cottage so we do have limitations. Nevertheless, I will make a better effort to explain more about the smallness. We are also looking into ways to block beach traffic sound. Thank you for sharing your experience, I know it will be helpful to future travelers.
Cottage is one of two cottages owned by us in the National Seashore less than 1/2 mile from ocean beach. Back trail also to bluff overlooking ocean and Marconi site. Stroll on cedar trail through the rare White Cedar Swamp in the National Park. Bike Rail Trail, So. Wellfleet Gen Store and Boulangerie Bistro and bakery 1/2 mile.
