Bill & I built this very special carriage house vacation rental with YOU in mind. Based on over 35 years in the travel industry we created, what we believe, to be a very relaxing, private, serene, comfortable and tranquil getaway. You will love it here!
Ellie purchased this bungalow in 2010
Ellie was born and raised in Montana and her grandfather, Shadan Lahood, was instrumental to her living on the river. When she was a small girl she would take (what seemed like forever) the very long drive from Helena to LaHood Park...about 60 miles and has now created what Ellie calls a modern day LaHood Park on the Missouri river. AKA : The 'Hideaway.'
Our carriage house caters to a romantic getaway. Most of our guests visit us for a special occasion eg: Anniversaries, engagements, birthdays, honeymooners and couples that are just reconnecting. We are rural and away from it all on the Missouri river. We welcome small weddings, vow renewals and elopements.
Wow, what a sweet & special find! The "Hideaway" was perfect for our 8th wedding anniversary weekend get away. We love the thought and care that went into the design of the "Hideaway" & the craftsmanship is simply amazing. Thanks for the wine, chocolate, hiking recommendations and for the sweet hospitality. We'll be back!!!
My husband is a Pastor and we have learned how important it is to get away and refresh to help have the energy and ability to pour into others. Staying at The Hideaway provided just the rest and relaxation that we needed. The Hidaway is adorable, layed out well, and decorated in a soothing and relaxing manner. The special touches our hosts provided (great soaps, fresh flowers, teas, etc...) blessed us tremendously and showed they truly care about their guests having a blessed and special time. The location is private and right on the river providing a beautiful view. We enjoyed just sitting and talking or reading on the loveseat that looked out to the mountains and river. It is so quiet (besides the trains in the distance which we loved) and the perfect place to clear your head from all the noise of the city and noise of life in general. It's a great place to quiet your heart, remove distractions, and hear from God.
The bed is AWESOME. I have never been somewhere where I wasn't looking forward to returning to my own bed.
If you are waivering on whether or not to stay at The HideAway....do it! It will be such a blessing. Words can't describe it...
This our favorite place to get away! My husband and I have stayed a The Hideaway twice in 10 months. Easy Drive from Minnesota and the perfect jumping off point for each days adventure. We got massages in Helena, soaked in the White Sulphur Hot Springs, bummed around Bozeman, dined in historic Three Rivers, drove to Big Sky, Livingston and hit Red Lodge in the way home (Not a direct route but beautiful). The accommodations are the highest quality, beautifully appointed and very clean. It has everything needed for a romantic, adventurous, or quiet get away. We feel blessed by Bill and Ellie's hospitality. We will most definitely make the Hideaway a vacation destination as often as possible!
Very clean, cozy and perfect for a romantic getaway!
This is truly an amazing location. Bill and Ellie truly put their hearts into this vacation rental and the results are breathtaking. The home was beautifully decorated and was very cozy and romantic. The mountain views were so amazing that I actually teared up when I saw the first sunrise over the mountains from the back porch. Fishing along the river was great fun (well it was after Bill helped unravel my fishing line and taught me how to use my fishing pole...thank you). We cannot imagine staying anywhere else when we return to Montana.
I booked this for a romantic getaway with myself! I needed to work on a novel and clear the head/de-stress, while eating clean and doing yoga. This was the perfect spot to do it, with the Missouri River looking right back at you off the rear porch. Ellie & Bill were super sweet and thoughtful; everything you need is provided, from extra TP/tissue/paper towels to laundry supplies, citronella candles, garbage bags, etc. The home is very well taken care of and clean, new feeling, and modern-enough to feel ultra comfortable.
I was so productive and relaxed that the only night I turned on the television was the first night. I did end up having to buy an internet tethering plan for my phone to stay connected through my laptop and stream a movie here and there / check email, but they note that there is no wifi in the listing so this is no surprise. I cooked great meals every day, drove into Helena a couple times to sight-see and get some wonderful massages at Ellie's recommendation, which was SO worth the drive! It's super peaceful and spiritual out there, and you can also see how local agriculture gets managed, just watching the equipment and how it gets used (fascinating to someone who lives in a non-agricultural zone of California!). Little bunnies hopped around the yard, and hummingbirds came to say hi when I had breakfast out on the back porch. Sunset and sunrise -- blissful. The wide open space and glory of the sky -- breathtaking. This was an experimental trip to accomplish some projects but also to see if MT is a place I'd enjoy and want to come back to -- and I sure did! Thanks again for a great stay!
The Hideaway was the perfect setting for our honeymoon! Though there are just a handful of other homes along the river, we still felt fairly secluded and Bill & Ellie really did their part in designing this gem with privacy in mind. It was cozy, quiet, nicely maintained, and tastefully decorated with a rustic modern appeal. The views were spectacular and we enjoyed our home cooked breakfast on the deck during sunrise and wine in the evening by the fire pit making s’mores. The accommodations plus the fantastic view truly make the Hideaway a steal for the price.
Like others, we would have been content to hang by the river but since it was our first trip to MT, we wanted to experience as much of the beautiful state as possible. Yellowstone was definitely worth the scenic drive and Bill and Ellie’s other suggestions just short jaunts away were spot on. Towns and other points of interest are spread out (which is why we love the state!) and the hideaway was a great location as there were options for things to do in all directions. We spent time in the car traveling here and there but it was always a beautiful trip and with the higher speed limits and lack of congestion, day trips were a breeze and we never found ourselves asking, ‘are we there yet?’
Bill and Ellie were wonderful and gracious hosts. We were so happy to meet this great couple and they couldn't have been more friendly or helpful while still providing privacy. We will most definitely be back!

We are located on the Missouri River between Bozeman and Helena in a very quiet, serene & rural location. Bozeman Gallatin airport is located just 43 miles away, Helena regional airport is 45 miles and Butte is only 64 miles.
Other Activities: We spent last summer exploring Yellowstone National Park, touring the Lewis & Clark caverns, floating/fishing the river, riding the tour train in Helena, MT, shopping in Ennis, MT, hiking the mountains in the area and soaking in some of the best hot springs around. And our favorite was trying out some of the best little unknown restaurants within an easy drive of the Hideaway. Some of our favorite's are: Pompey's Grill, Sacajawea Bar, Willow Creek Restaurant and LaHood Park Cafe.
Golf: Our nearest Golf course is just 20 miles away in a quaint Montana town of Three Forks.
Ski: We prefer skiing the local mountains such as the Great Divide~Helena, Showdown~Niehart, Discovery~Anaconda and Bridger~Bozeman. If you prefer a more resort style skiing experience Big Sky Ski & Resort is just an hour and half drive!
