A Bit Nicer Than a Tent

  • 2 of 5

Rating Details:

The property manager was more than helpful.

The vacation rental was somewhat dirty.

I was more than happy with the location.

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

Reviewer Comments:

The tipi was more run-down than the photographs on the rental website portrayed. The air-conditioner worked well during our stay, but there is a printed warning not to set the temperature below 74 degrees due to the possibility of icing and damaging the system. There are several electrical outlets. The tipi contains two beds with some sort of memory cushion that was quite comfortable. There is one old sofa, a small refrigerator, a coffee maker, and a toaster oven. I didn't see a microwave oven. There are no windows in the tipi, and the inside wall is covered with some sort of plaster. The outside is made of a canvas-type material. This combination probably created the damp, stuffy feeling inside and left a lingering smell that was not terrible, but it permeated everything, including our packed clothes. The sheets on the beds were clean, but the bedspreads had bits of dried grass scattered and stuck on the fibers. I don't know if they had been washed, but they didn't look clean to me. Each tipi has a private bathroom, but to get to it, you must walk outside and past other tipis and/or the common lounge area. You enter a code to unlock the door. The bathroom is air-conditioned and looks nice with cabinets, sink, toilet, and walk-in shower. I was very disappointed in the shower, though. The water pressure was low, and two out of three times, there was only enough hot water to last for a quick two minute shower. Overall, the tipi was better than camping in a tent. For the price of rental, I expected more. I guess we were paying more for the convenient location rather than for the amenities.

Reviewer Comments:

This trip was mainly for my daughter. She LOVED staying in a Tipi! It was a really neat setup, very neat idea. I personally would have preferred not to have to walk across the campsite to go to use the bathroom, and would have liked it to be cleaner, but overall, it was a fun, cool experience.

How often do you get to sleep in a tepee. Much larger than expected, well furnished with everything needed to be comfortable. Tons of fun with kids. Like camping but way easier
