Hello future friends, the left bank of Paris has always been home and I would love crossing the bridge to 'The Island', to take my son to play in the sandpit of the Notre Dame gardens, have some delicious Berthillon ice-cream, and lovely romantic dinners.... I never dreamt that one day I'd have a 'pied a terre' here!! If, like me, you love special places this is definitely one of them... so I wish you welcome to 'The Island' and hope you have many happy moments here........Nishu
Nishu purchased this apartment in 2010
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this apartment on the Ile San Louis. It was a lovely oasis! The apartment had good lighting and was tastefully decorated. Comfortable bed and nice to have the separation of space with the two floors. We spent a week in early December and always enjoyed returning to our Paris home after our excursions. Nishu was great in all communications before and during our stay. Great value, highly recommend.
My husband enjoys early walks near the river, so the Ile St. Louis was the perfect spot for him. It was a cold November, but the apartment was warm and cozy. The lighting was wonderful, with bedside lamps on each side of the bed. I like taking baths, so the shower was no problem for me. It was very nice having a washing machine. It was nice not having to climb stairs! We greatly enjoyed our stay at Nishu's apartment.
This property was the best choice for our stay in Paris, and I would recommend anyone to book it. The location on the Ile St. Louis cannot be beat. You are steps from the Left and Right Banks, and one-half block from cafes, wine shops, cheese shops, chocolate shops, bakeries, supermarket, unique gift boutiques and fine eateries. This is quintessential Paris, and you feel like you are living like a local. Wander out of apartment and see magnificent Notre Dame across the river at the end of the street. The apartment itself is smaller than it appears in photos, but you will still love it. We were very comfortable there for one week and could have stayed longer. The bed is especially comfortable and a true American queen size. There was enough closet and drawer space -- a rarity -- and everything that was needed in the kitchen. The one thing we read in the reviews that I would urge the landlord to address is the low ceiling in the bathroom. Even knowing about it, we whacked our heads really hard more than a few times. Maybe round the corner, or add some padding? Other than that, Nishu was great to deal with -- extremely responsive and helpful, as was her greeter, Marc!
The property itself is located in a wonderful location for visitors to Paris. The apartment itself is well decorated & quite nice. Communication with the owner, Nishi, was excellent; with the caretaker, Marc (I think), a little more difficult, as his English is somewhat limited. The apartment is small - and yes, the shower is a bit of an issue - but the use of space is very good; as a couple with our niece & nephew stopping by, it never felt cramped. The lounge area is comfortable & pleasant. While we did not use the kitchen, it appeared clean & nicely laid out. The bedroom is also nicely decorated, roomy for 2 with 2 cases & the bed quite comfortable. Plenty of outlets throughout the apt for chargers & such. There were plenty of bath towels provided, which was appreciated & the offer of a universal charger (which we didn't need) was a nice touch.
Downsides? Well, there were a few. None that spoiled the experience, but enough to rate the property as avg - a high average, say a 3.8
1) The apartment needs a bit of general maintenance. For example, the taps/faucet at the bathroom sink is just about hanging on by it's hose; it rocks back & forth & awkward to use as a result. Ditto wall towel rail... Both would take less than 20 min to sort. Caretakers know about these issues, but not seen to as yet...
2) The bed had been made with sheets stained with what looked like pen marks on bottom & top sheets. This made them seem unclean - although we believe they were clean. It's a bit nasty to use stained sheets...
3) The bathroom was not quite clean. Oh, the loo & sink were wiped out & the mirror clean, but the bath/shower had brown hairs on the bottom & a clear beigey soap scum round the entire base. I'm picky about things like that being clean; that I had to clean the shower before retiring to bed at 1.00am was not acceptable
4) In fact, the whole place could really use a good deep clean. There is dust/dirt on every cabinet, baseboard, etc and it smells just a bit of a home that has been shut up & not aired enough.
And lastly, the loo roll was only 1/2 full at arrival & the only other we could locate was a 99% used roll under the sink. Honestly, is it really too much to have the courtesy to put on a full roll & maybe have a back up??? This, and the maintenance issues, speak of a lack of care & attention to the little things that make for a truly pleasant stay.
Overall, we'd stay again, but only if issues were addressed
My daughter and I stayed at this lovely setting on the Ile St Louis and took full advantage of the local merchants, shops restaurants and historical sites which were all within walking distance of this perfect location. Each morning as we planned our day's outings we had fresh croissants from the bakery down the street, and each evening as we sat by the Seine we enjoyed ice cream form the many options available on the Ile itself. The rooms were well appointed with a sense of french ambiance that we fully embraced in the spirit of living locally. Nishu was ever so helpful in the planning stages . Marc made sure our stay was perfect including arranging to meet us at the apartment early on our departure date and scheduling our taxi for the airport . This made our stay truly memorable and we would highly recommend this location to those who wish to be in the spirit of Paris living.
We were excited to spend a lovely vacation in Paris, however we had a very bad experience with this property. The unit is divided on two floor which makes the space feel extremely small. The photos as advertised are taken with a wide angle lens and are not accurate. The ceilings are low and a vent goes through the bathroom so that you hit your head everytime you get up from the toilet or get out of the shower. The clearance there is less then 4 feet. The first floor window is on the ground floor of a busy street and we had intoxicated people knocking on the window several times and speaking to us in French. There is an extra $50 euro charge if you arrive later then 8pm.
