In 2011 we wanted to start planning our semi- retirement and thought it was going to be on a boat to cruise the Caribbean. After looking at the cost of a boats to cruise to the Bahamas we decided to look at property in the Bahamas. The first property we looked at was in Long Island and that was our last! We fell in love with this friendly, safe, beautiful island at first glance. After 3 years we feel blessed that we by far made the right decision.
Then we meet with a few builders and chose Lauren Knowles, who is a father to the community and now like family to us. We started with just going to build a home for us but later decided we wanted to be able to share this amazing island with friends and family so that is how the Blue Lagoon Villa and the Pink Conch came in to play. Now the Blue Lagoon Villa is complete and our dream is a reality. We are so excited to meet you and help you enjoy your getaway to Bahama Dreamin!
Robin and Mike Smith purchased this villa in 2013
After touring Long Island we had to make a choice on where we wanted to build Bahama Dreamin Villas. We looked at the Leeward side of the island and the Windward side. We chose the windward side because of the elevation for the best view and the constant breeze. Even though we are from FL the breeze adds to the comfort of a tropical climate. We are so sre you will be amazed by the beautiful view that when you drive up the road to Bahama Dreamin and your first words aren't OMG we will buy your first nights dinner! You come once this will be somewhere you will want to visit again and again.
We have traveled to many places so we have tried to pin down all the fine details when building and furnishing the Blue Lagoon and the Pink Conch Villas. Each villa are 1 and 2 bedrooms and each bedroom has its own private bath. The living room and kitchen has everything you need to make your stay just like home with a full refrigerator, stove, microwave plus pots and pans, blender, mixer, toaster, dishes etc... If you don't want to cook there are many restaurants on the island close by or you can have a Bahamian meal cooked for your in your own Villa with fresh fish or lobster caught that day. The large screened in porch is where you will spend your evenings and on a calm night you will be glad to have the screened room that is like an extension of the family room. All rooms are air conditioned but we rarely need them since there is always a nice breeze.
Spent a week island hopping in the Bahamas and used Robin’s & Mike’s Bahama Dreamin as a base for the southern Bahamas. The house was impeccable and without doubt, had the best view with the very scenic rocks and waves breaking on the coast. Mike and Robin went out of their way to answer questions to help us and make our stay outstanding. Would recommend staying at Bahama Dreamin for anyone going to Long Island.
This is truly an amazing place to stay on Long Island. The view and sea breeze allows a true Bahamian experience. Private, ultimate seclusion but with amenities on your doorstep.
The owners are very accommodating and we will surely recommend this place to my friends. We will be back.
Robin and Mike are gracious hosts. They did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The villa was perfect for us. We especially enjoyed the screened patio - coffee while watching the sunrise and then an evening cocktail and dinner while gazing at the ocean view. We have rented many homes on Long Island and elsewhere in the Bahamas and this is by far the best. We hope to return next spring!

This was my 3rd trip to Long Island, but my first staying at Bahama Dreamin' ... it was definitely the best experience I've had so far! The location is perfect, with beautiful ocean views and easy access to a private protected beach. The villas are top-notch ... they did a wonderful job building these structures, paying special attention to every single detail. Mostly, the service from Mike and Robyn was impeccable, from their very first email interaction all the way through their driving us to the airport when we left. It was also a nice perk to have a car included in the rental price. I definitely plan to stay here during my next trips, and I would highly recommend it to anyone going to Long Island for a weekend or a long-term visit. Thanks again, Mike & Robyn!
Words are hard to find to describe Bahamas Dreamin and Long Island! My husband and I just returned from there on our honeymoon. We didn't know what to really expect but everything, the villa, island, food and views far exceeded anything we could have imagined. The island was hit hard by the hurricane but the spirit of the people there is untouched.
First the villa, Robin picked us up at the airport and gave us a quick run down of where a few things were. The villas are clean and airy and perfect. We enjoyed watching the sunrise on the porch every morning and just sitting there in the evening listening to the ocean. Definitely take time to look for sea glass out front. BRING WATER SHOES! They are great for the rocky beaches.
The grocery store down the road has a nice selection of items and reasonably priced. Max's conch bar, The Forest and Seaside Village were all great and close to the house. IF you head to Clarence Town both the Outer Edge Grill and Rowdy Boyz is great. Bring plenty of cash. Several places take a credit card but sometimes the lines are down. Pack half as many clothes as you think you will need because you will spend your time in your bathing suit and cover up. Pack snack foods as those tend to be pricey at the grocery stores.
The island is rural, no big shops or restaurants. The people are beyond nice and helpful. They love their island and are happy to share it with you. I was in awe of everything why we were there. Amazing beaches. Gordon's beach at the south end was absolutely our favorite beach. You don't run in people at the beaches either unless you go to Deans Blue Hole. I recommend visiting it but there are much prettier places to hang out for the day. We found the Atlantic side took quick a beating from Hurricane Joaquin so we spent more time on the Caribbean side.
My only word of caution is that when flying to and back from the island either on Southern Air or Bahamas Air, be prepared that you will get delayed or they may leave early. Leave plenty of time between connections.
If your're looking for a resort and to be pampered...don't go here but if you want to explore and relax and literally wear your bathing suit all week...LONG ISLAND and Bahamas Dreamin is the place for you. We will be back (hopefully sooon!!!)
We spent 12 days this past Christmas with Robin and Mike. The time slipped away and before we knew it our time was over. It was with a heavy heart when leaving this tranquil place.
Our time was spent swimming, bonefishing, exploring every road, beach, or shoreline. It was a wonderful time with the locals being one of the highlights. Everywhere we went we meet truly warm and hospitable people.
If you are looking for a relaxing vacation away from the large packaged resort, "Bahama Dreamin" may fit the bill. It was everything that we hoped for and more. Robin and Mike did everything possible to make it a fun stay. Thanks for the use of snorkel gear.

The Real Bahamas!
Long Island, a jewel of an island located in the archipelago crown of islands in The Bahamas. Stretching about 80 miles long and the widest point on the island is approximately 4 miles. 'Yuma' was the original name for Long Island given by the native Arawak Indians before it was renamed 'Fernandina' by Christopher Columbus in 1492.
The tropic of Cancer line runs through Long Island, making the atmosphere feel as if you are on another plane...another world.
Long Island is said to be the most beautiful, picturesque island of The Bahamas because of its symphony of dramatic contrasts. On the 'norside', which is really the eastern shore overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, there are cliffs, caves and crashing waves of indigo. On the opposite side, the western shore, it's calm, tranquil, turquoise and aquamarine shades of blue overlaps with flats, mangroves and baby powder sanded beaches as far as the eyes can see.
The deepest blue hole in the world, Dean's Blue Hole (600 ft), is located at Turtle Cove west of the capitol, Clarence Town. Many blue holes exist throughout the island in settlements namely, Mileys, Dunmore and Simms.
Numerous cave and tunnel systems cover the island. The historical cave system where the Lucayan Indian Tribe and their treasure artifacts, such as the ceremonial stools 'duhos' were found is located in Mortimer's. The treasure find was discovered by Long Island native Carlton Cartwright. Another cave system is located in Mileys and the historical Hamilton's Cave where hieroglyphics are still visible on the cave walls to this day.
Scattered throughout Long Island are many ruins of cotton plantations, churches and houses built in the 1700 & 1800's. Adderley Plantation is located 'down' in the north. 'Up' south lies the ruins of Dunmore Slave Plantation named for the former governor, Lord Dunmore, of The Bahamas. Canals, wells, and walls built by slaves can still be found throughout Long Island to this day.
Columbus Point where Columbus Landed there is a monument erected. Climb to the top and experience a breathtaking panoramic view of Long Island. Located at Cape Santa Maria where the beach there is ranked amongst the top 10 in the world.
The Twin Churches built by Father Jerome, or Monsignor John C. Hawes an architect, world famous, he was also a poet, philosopher and sculptor. He he was ordained as a Church of England priest 'Anglican' and came to Long Island where he built St. Paul's Anglican Church. He later converted to Catholicism, returned to Long Island and built St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Both churches are located in Clarence Town on opposite hillsides.
Long Island is home to many wonders, a natural treasure chest. Go exploring, have an adventure, you just never know what you may find. Bring your Water shoes, snorkel or dive gear and your fishing pole and you will be set for the most relaxing adventure of your life!
