Family trip

  • 4 of 5

We had a good family time at this rental. The home has a great layout with the loft area well stocked for the children, as well as impeccably clean. The creek/river is lovely, however, it is not well explained that the creek access is a very steep wooden staircase that posed a challenge to the toddler, and us adults after a few trips up and down. If you walk the long way down the road, you must walk through others property to access the yard. My daughter did this and encountered an army of chihuahuas( no joke, 6-7 tiny dogs ran out to chase her off).We really didn't enjoy the creek as much as we wished due to the challenge of carrying chairs, and the fire pit is in the dog yard : ( not by the creek. Overall we had a good weekend and found a sandy area above the property nearby to drop into the creek and tube, for about 90 minutes all the way back to the property, and then had to carry the tubes up the stairs. That was stinky. We had no cell service and the wifi wasn't working at all, so if you need that, id confirm its been repaired. Fortunately our focus was hanging out as a family and the wifi wasn't a huge issue for us. The appliances are new and clean also, and the beds were comfy. The area is quiet with a little traffic , but not much. Board games a plenty, very convenient gated area for dogs. We were scared to death one afternoon however, there was a man using the shed behind the home and dumping wood down the bank behind our cabin and we thought he was breaking in. Turns out he is probably a maintenance man for the neighborhood. That did take away from the privacy level. We felt we were being watched as we saw him multiple

Times over a 3 day stay. The owners of this home have been lovely to work with, however. Again overall the home itself and the property are super as long as you don't mind the stairs. I do not recommend this property for any one with physical disability that impedes their walking. It's great for bigger kids and families.

The house was very well maintained and clean. Anything you would need to use to cook was provided.

We had 4 adults and 3 teenagers staying for a week. We had bought 5 tubes before arriving and everyone but Grandma made many trips down the creek. The trips ranged from 35 minutes to almost 1 1/2 hours. A large turtle was spotted and a beaver. Our best side trip was to Mt. Airy and everyone enjoyed the museum. The house was well stocked with books, games and activities for even very young children. We ate most of our meals at the house and the kitchen had anything we required to fix a meal.

Relaxing on the porch and listening to the sound of the creek at night was enjoyable. We had 2 campfires and grilled out one night.

There are many steps down to the creek, but they were well maintained. If you have trouble with steps, you can drive down the hill and park, and the grass is flat to walk on.

All 7 of us would recommend this as a place to stay for a wonderful week in the mountains.

Thanks to our hosts for allowing us to visit.

Be Careful

  • 1 of 5

I initially gave Rich and Sandy a glowing recommendation, but that was before they failed to return the damage deposit. When I made the reservation I selected the much more expensive refundable option instead of the much cheaper non-refundable option. I have now called them multiple times, filed a complaint with Homeaway customer support, and still nothing from the owners. There was no damage to the property. Instead it seems that the owners spent the money and are now ignoring all of my requests to return the money. I waited for several weeks before taking the route of posting a negative review, but considering the owners' failure to respond to me, I'm submitting this. Rich did answer one of my calls, and apologized and said the money would be sent, but now we are back to NOTHING HAPPENING. I will not stay at this property again, and hopefully the owners will eventually take care of this before letting more interest collect on my credit card and forcing me to take time to deal with this.

Beautiful house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The house is very fresh and clean (spotless!) and recently redecorated/remodeled. Well stocked with everything you need - plenty of towels, throw blankets for chilly nights, lawn chairs, etc. Beautiful location right by the creek (small river) after you walk down a long set of stairs. There's a grassy area by the creek that's great for kids to play and adults to relax. We stayed with another family and the house was the perfect size. The kids enjoyed all the toys that were provided and had fun staying in the kids' loft bedroom. We hiked around the neighborhood a bit and drove to do some more hiking along the New River. We also did some sampling at a cidery, meadery and winery. Great trip, fantastic hosts and wonderful house. Thanks!!

Beautiful place so relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful and very very clean. My sister and I had a great time. The sound of the creek is so relaxing while sitting out on the wrap around porch. Such beauty. We walked down to the creek and sat and watched some kids float down the river in small canoes. It is a peaceful place. They supplied everthing we needed pretty much except food.

What a fun, relaxing vacation at Creekside!

  • 5 of 5

People ask how we found a vacation home in such a small town...My answer, I'm not sure how, but we sure are happy we did! My husband, daughter and I met our son and daughter in law for a week's vacation! (It was half way for us both!) Very Clean home. Owners responded to questions very quickly. We had a great time tubing and hanging out in the water, sadly the water was low and we had a tendency to get stuck on Rocks, (No one but Mother Nature's fault!) But we still had a blast. Relaxing on the deck listening to the water was also awesome. If we weren't in the water, we were hanging on the deck playing games! Yes we would definitely stay here again. Did I mention how much the dog loved the water! The only things that could make it better would be more comfortable beds and a gate or something for the deck opening by the driveway to help keep dogs(or small kids) in. Met the cleaning lady and she was so sweet and as I mentioned before it was very clean! Thank you Rich and Sandy!
