Gorgeous sunsets, waterfront cottage 60 feet to the shore, lots of light and warmth, two fireplace stoves; Master bedroom with ocean views/sleeps 2 (Queen Bd), 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds; 1 Queen pull-out couch/futon sleeps 2 in the great room with amazing ocean views; 1 bathroom with shower; kitchen, reading nook with fireplace & ocean views, living room/dining room with ocean views, gas grill and patio with outdoor seating and two smaller side decks. Acadia Bayside Cottage is nestled in a grove of tall pines. Relax in the bentwood Adirondack style chairs on the bluff overlooking the bay. Witness seals, bald eagles, blue herons, osprey and harbor porpoises from the cottage or in your kayak on the water. Peaceful and private, yet close by to all area amenities of the Acadia region.

By car, our cottage is approx:

10 min to seafood restaurants/lobster pounds just off of Route 3 in Trenton along the route you'd follow onto Mount Desert Island (MDI).

10 min to the head of Mount Desert Island which is an area known as the Town Hill section of Bar Harbor.

20 min to the main Acadia National Park entrance and Hulls Cove Visitor's Center.

25 min to downtown Bar Harbor where there are many restaurants & shops, 3 pharmacies, movie theater, grocery stores and much more.

Many hiking & biking trails within 20-30 min drive.(trails and carriage roads can be accessed all over the island)

10 min to Ellsworth - where you'll find restaurants, movie theaters, grocery stores, pharmacies, Walmart, TJ Maxx, L.L. Bean and other stores. Main Street in Ellsworth, which leads down to a small bridge & river, is a nice part of this small city - sort of an old fashioned downtown with some interesting shops and restaurants.

You'll find restaurants along both sides of Main Street. The Union River Lobster Pot is just over the bridge and nestled along the river just behind Rooster Brothers specialty foods store & has excellent seafood. There are also some chain restaurants along Route 3 in Ellsworth.

About Kim Childs and Doug Michael

I was born in Maine to parents 'from away' as they say and grew up in mid-coast Maine. Although I sought adventure in far away places during my 20's, I chose to return to this amazing state because there's no place quite like Maine or like Mainers.

In past years, I've worked for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in mid-coast Maine and am an alumna of three of their programs.

For several years, I led cultural and educational tours primarily in the Middle East, but also in the United States, Canada and Europe. This work led to the founding of my an educational travel company, which I operated with my husband for several years.

In recent years, I've worked in Maine in the areas of public health and geriatric social work. Before recently joining the Institute for Humane Education in Surry, I worked at the College of the Atlantic in the Office of Institutional Advancement in Bar Harbor.

I happily live on Mount Desert Island with my husband, son, daughter and a rescued racing greyhound named Chester.

Kim Childs and Doug Michael purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Kim Childs and Doug Michael chose Downeast and Acadia

Over the past several years, my husband and I have been looking for a very special property, and feel lucky to have finally found all we were searching for in Acadia Bayside Cottage. This cottage has everything we hoped for - a beautiful, oceanfront setting, vibrant sunsets to gaze at in the evenings and a location very close to Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. This cozy abode quickly felt like home to us and a place we could envision spending a lot of time - without having to drive far to feel like we were getting away from it all.

Acadia Bayside Cottage has a presence - a strong sense of place - which quickly draws you in and invites you to relax & live in the peaceful moments we hope you'll experience while enjoying our little slice of paradise!

What makes this cottage unique

Acadia Bayside Cottage is situated on beautiful Mill Cove, near the confluence of Union River Bay and Blue Hill Bay. Our cove is an excellent place to sea kayak, and is frequently visited by Seals, Harbor Porpoise, Bald Eagles, Blue Heron, Double-Crested Cormorant, King Fisher, and Loons. Four-footed friends have included the occasional White-tailed Deer and baby Fox!

Relaxing and Peaceful Stay...

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Doug and Kim for offering your treasure of a home for our vacation! We found the location and amenities to be perfect for our family of four. Your stocking of the kitchen and bathrooms was most helpful and an extra bonus. We can't say enough about the comfort and setting of the cottage. The sunsets were some of the best we have ever seen. The tide changes and wild life added to the experience. We found ourselves not wanting to leave each day to go do all of the fun activities available on Mt Desert island only 10 minutes away and wishing we had another week just to relax at the cottage. The location was ideal just minutes away from Ellsworth and so close to Mt. Desert Island and Bar Harbor. One thing we enjoyed the most was eating fresh lobster outside and just simply watching the sunsets. Our week at your home will certainly be one of our most memorable family vacations. Thank you both!

Beats all expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Having rented numerous cabins/cottages in or around National Parks, this was by far the best equipped and comfortable. They literally have EVERYTHING you'll ever need during your stay. We spent most evenings either on the deck or in the sun/TV room with breathtaking views of the Bay. Location is perfect for going to town, finding a dinner spot or taking that hike. We can't say enough good things about the welcome and hospitality we felt...home away from home, for sure! When we return to Maine, we only hope that they have availability for our stay. Thank you Kim & Doug, you helped make our vacation one of the best. Janet & Joe, Chicago, IL, June 2016

Lovely cabin, great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in early June, and it was lovely. You can tell the owners spend time there, because it is clean and comfortable, with many amenities. The location on the bay is wonderful if you like nature and sunsets. We saw a couple of osprey, some loons, a seal, and even a bald eagle a couple of times on our last day. There were huge schools of tiny fish chased by mackerel, a few of which we caught and released. We loved watching the tides and the sky. Some nights the sunset caught the clouds and morphed beautifully for an hour or more. The property has good proximity to MDI as well, which we took advantage of most days. It was a wonderful place to take a vacation.

So Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

We were so impressed with the peaceful, relaxing setting. It was everything we hoped it would be. We enjoyed Acadia Park as well as a whale watching trip from Bar Harbor. The scenery at the cottage changed constantly as the tides came in & out. Would recommend this location to anyone wanting to get away & relax.

Beautiful cottage with amazing views!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cottage in an spectacular setting. The views from every window are awesome. You are just surrounded by nature. We saw a bald eagle just off the deck, a red fox across the cove and many sea birds fishing. The sunsets over the bay are spectacular. The cove is a great place to explore at low tide. The cottage is fully equipped and very clean. It is located close to Acadia and Bar Harbor, but just far enough away that it is still very quiet. Doug and Kim really made us feel at home and went above and beyond to make are time there very special. We can't wait to return!

Beautiful Waterfron Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly what we anticipated, beautiful location on the ocean. The inside was well kept, and had everything we needed.

We would recommend buying cooked Lobsters at any of the Lobster Pounds and take them back to the cottage for dinner overlooking the ocean and sunset.

Acadia National Park is a must. Biking on the Carriage Roads as well as climbing the many peaks made for a fantastic vacation.

Can't speak highly enough for how great this place is and would recommend it to family and friends!
