The villas sit above the Galleon Beach Resort and command spectacular views of Freeman's Bay, English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour. (Please note the second villa is Homeaway property # 4265213 and has its own calendar.) Galleon Beach is a large white sand beach which is quiet and child friendly; just a five minute walk to the beach.
The owners of Blue Moon, Shonnie and Michael, live on the property and are happy to give recommendations concerning restaurants, hikes, and other activities in the area. Shonnie will make car, activities and dinner reservations for you, allowing you to focus on enjoying your holiday. She will provision the villa before your arrival with items you request-there is no charge for this service, only the cost of the groceries.
Blue Moon Villas is located in an ideal spot on the south coast of Antigua. The villas are just a 5 minute drive from the most famous viewpoint on the island, Shirley Heights. Blue Moon is also a 5 - 10 minute drive from some of the best restaurants and bars on the island located in Falmouth and English Harbours.
Each villa has a full kitchen, king-size bed, large outdoor garden shower, and a private wrap-around deck with a dining area for six. The view from the villas is of Freeman's Bay which is the entrance to English Harbour. Located within English Harbour is the UNESCO World Heritage site Nelson's Dockyard. This is also the home of world class sailboat races which can be viewed from the deck of the villa!
Situated between the villas is an area with a Jacuzzi, BBQ grill, and custom seating, and a great view of the sailboats in Freeman's Bay.There is an open air yoga room available for use by guests or they can join a small group who practice Bikram yoga using Bikram's 90 minute CD.
It is a ten minute walk to Galleon Beach where the beach bar restaurant is open for lunch six days a week. Guests can also have breakfast or lunch at the other resort on Galleon Beach which is a very short walk down the beach.
There are many restaurants nearby in English and Falmouth Harbours (5 minute car ride) which are small but serve great food. If you decide to rent a car you can do so in English Harbour (Shonnie will make you a reservation from one of the three companies) after you have had a day or two to relax. In addition there are bars with live music, a nightclub, shops with local artwork and day spas. During the day there is a free water taxi service from the beach to English Harbour and back. Regular taxis are abundant and reasonable if you do not wish to rent a car; whether you wish to just go to English Harbour or would like a guided tour of the island.
There is excellent snorkling and diving just off Galleon Beach and several dive shops in Falmouth Harbour. Several of the local dive companies will pick you up from the Galleon Beach dock. Windsurfing is available nearby-the company will pick you up from English Harbour.
I (second from left) am pictured here with some friends that join me (guests in the villas are welcome also) for Bikram yoga classes. The four of us in this picture grew up in four different countries (France, USA, Italy, Antigua) which is what I love so much about living in Antigua. It's unusual to go to the local grocery store or bank and not hear at least three different languages spoken.
In addition to managing the villas I enjoy teaching dog training and occasionally assisting the local Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue-ABSAR- with medical assistance as I was an Emergency Room Physician's assistant in my former life.
Mershon Beach purchased this villa in 1997
When I first saw the view from this property it didn't matter what the house looked like-it was location, location, location! The fact that there is such peace and quiet here with all the hustle and bustle of Falmouth and English Harbour just five minutes away made this the perfect location -with the best view on the island!
We spent the last 2 weeks of Dec at Blue Moon Villas overlooking Freeman Bay in Antigua. This was our second stay at the villas and we will be returning as soon as we can! Hosts, Shonnie and Michael have perfected the art of hospitality by not only providing everything in the villas needed to kick back, relax and enjoy your stay, but they make you feel at home in this island paradise. Their knowledge of the island makes getting around so much easier. Although getting a little lost when venturing around the island adds to the fun!
There are many good restaurants in the area, but the view from the wrap around porches makes dining in an experience not to be missed. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to prepare meals. After a day of hiking, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, or sightseeing you can relax in the hot tub with views of the ocean and magnificent sunsets followed by an outside shower under the stars (one of our favorite villa amenities)! The king size bed is very comfortable, with super soft sheets and you can't beat being lured to sleep by the sounds of the waves and tree frogs.
The villas have screens in the doors and windows and along with the ceiling fans the cool breeze makes the temperature very comfortable. The entire front of the villa is screened to enjoy the view of the bay with the moored sailboats and the ocean beyond....truly breathtaking!
There is an open-air yoga/Pilates studio on the property and several mornings a week you can join Shonnie and her friends in a Bikram yoga class, or you can practice on your own. Words can't describe the peace and calm that surrounds you on your mat.
The location of Blue Moon is perfect for exploring Antigua. We recommend renting an AWD from Mr. Biggs in Falmouth Harbour, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Here are places we've visited and enjoyed: Shirley Heights (check out the party on Sunday nights), Roadhouse (great reggae music), Nelson's Dockyard, Betty's Hope, Dow's Hill Interpretation Center, Donkey Sanctuary, and Devil's Bridge. So many beaches, but to name a few: Galleon, Pidgeon, Rendezxous, Turner, Half Moon and Fossil. There are several great restaurants; a few of our favorites are Rum Ba Ba, Cap Horn, Shear Rocks, Harmony Hall, Catherine's, Abracadabra"s, Paparazzi and the Dockside bakery.
We stayed here a week in December which happened to coincide with Super Yacht week which we thoroughly enjoyed! The view is stunning day and night, the area has some great restaurants and the bay was perfect for a cooling dip. The help and information we received from the friendly owners was way above what was expected. We will be back!
We stayed 2 weeks at Blue Moon and are coming back again this year. Great hosts! Breathtaking view over English Harbor. Spacious, open and very comfortable villa with lots of privacy, and well landscaped. The jacuzzi below was great but the best feature is the large tiled out door shower under the stars. Ran the trails from Galleon beach to Shirley Heights and back every morning.
Having spent 10 weeks in Antigua at another villa, we spent our last 5 days in Blue Moon, and it was a wonderful way to end our visit.
We rented the highest point villa, with a magnificent view of Galleon Beach and the ocean, with its boats and yachts. We especially enjoyed the sunsets, sipping cocktails on the terrace.
We experienced the Jacuzzi our first night, and it was very enjoyable. The villa was especially quiet, except for some construction during the days, some noise from the beach where the sounds resonate in the enclosed bay, and Shirley Heights on Sunday afternoon. The layout of the Villa is very well thought out, with the only exception being for the small refrigerator in the kitchen, requiring use of the larger fridge located near the Jacuzzi and bbq. The master bed, sheeting and netting is very comfortable, especially when compared to some of our recent experiences in the Caribbean.
Since we are accustomed to AC, we missed it mostly in mid to late afternoon, and sleeping at night, very hot and humid at times.
The owners can be complimented for their kindness and attention provided during our stay. We have no hesitation in recommending these villas for a wonderful holiday experience.
English and Falmouth Harbours are home to world class sailing competitions, Row the Atlantic, Optimist international sailing competitions, fishing competitions and the winter home of super yachts.
