A comfortable home with great history & fun decorating. An easy location to many local attractions. The home was layed out nicely, very comfortable, and even though we viewed it on-line, the art work & decorating detail was amazing! Really enjoyed the backyard fire pit & pool.
The Kirk Douglas House is so beautiful and worth every penny! We had a girl's weekend in Palm Springs and could not have booked a better house. I mean it, we were so sad to leave! There were seven of us and we loved the layout and had plenty of space. The house looks exactly like the photos- the decor is fantastic! We spent our days at the pool which is even bigger and better than the photos. The beds were comfortable and the house had everything we needed and more. We also loved the outdoor fire pit! The location is very close to downtown Palm Springs' bars and restaurants. We had the most amazing weekend, I can't say enough great things about this house. Thanks again Acme House Co, you were fabulous to work with and we hope to return soon!
I stayed at the Kirk Douglas house with a few friends and my family at the beginning of August for a long weekend. First you need to know it is ideally located in the Movie Colony area of the city, just a stones throw away from supermarkets etc but also so near all the great eateries in town.
As for the house itself, it truly is a monument of Palm Springs glamour. As soon as you step in, it is like being in a classic Hollywood movie. The decor is completely unique while being comfortable, the house offers all amenities you may need during your stay and easily houses 8 people. There is ample space both inside and outside to enjoy your friends while also being able to have moments of peace. The pool was also a welcome addition to our stay as the temperature soared. There is a nice shaded part in the pool which was ideal for the kids.
Writing this, I already want to book again!
The house is located in the best neighbourhood of Palm Springs, super close to everything. The house has a perfect layout with the open kitchen and living room as the main room. The master bedroom connects to an even bigger bathroom with a great bath for alone time. The absolute best (and most needed in those summer month) feature of the house, is without a doubt the big private outdoor space fully equipped with a huge pool, deck chairs, roofed dining area, and a cute outdoor living room with a fire feature – with breath-taking mountain views of course. The weekend was hot, hitting 40+ degrees; so needless to say, we spent a lot of time in that pool, which actually just felt like a semi-warm bath in the sun. Nothing beats great weekend getaways with friends and if you are spending time in LA anyway, I would highly suggest you make the two hour drive out to Palm Springs. Even for just one night it is great to soak up the sun and get some pool time in there too.
The layout of the house is perfect for a large group. There's plenty of space to find quiet time alone but then the backyard and pool are perfect for when you want to be around others. The neighborhood is quiet, the kitchen is stocked, and the house is is ideally located so you can get to all the local hotspots quickly by car or Uber.
We had a great stay here for a long weekend (in scorching mid-summer). The house is inspired by Palm Spring's quirk & charm and perfect for groups of friends or large families travelling together. During our stay the pool was the biggest + and the AC never stopped once as we had 120F every day. Acme house company provided amazing service, welcoming us and taking us through everything. The house also came with one of the most comprehensive guide books I've ever come across, outlining everything there was to know.
My wife and I and our three girls (aged 16, 13 and 9) stayed at the amazing, interior and exterior showpiece of a house; the Come Fly with me in the hot Desert Summer of 2014. I'm not sure what has taken me so long to reply, to write this review: This place is a TEN. There is so much perfect about it, I don't have time in this space to provide all of the information that impressed and made us smile. From the cofee machine to the pavers in front and back, from the clean manucured landscape to the edgy and somehow appropos sketches and artwork,to the perfectly maintained pool, patio and barbecue, we loved it.
All I could think of when we had been in the refreshing, visual show piece (it looked like an art museum to me) ...after looking through so many VRBO properties in Palm Springs and (other desert cities) was: where is the Sixth Star. I'd read through three, four and five star reviews. This place deserves a sixth ! My wife and I knew that we were traveling with our climate sensitive daughters (we live in San Francisco Bay Area, the climate is not too difficult), our risk was taking a chance on Palm Springs in August. More than a few people warned us: they need 'chillers in the pools it is so hot there int he summer....it's so hot, the lizards duck for cover, it is so hot, the newspapers melt to the pavement, (and so on)...we took a chance; in large part because of helpful reviews on VRBO (hence, my late attempt to provide feedback, praise and to inform). Immediately upon walking in, from the fantastic, bold, artsy wall pieces, to the furniture, vases, sculptures, sketches and the giant pink pay phone on the wall, everything about Come Fly with me made us comfortable, brought us together to lounge and watch t.v., to read in the relaxing heat of the desert summers and brought us together late late in the night playing in 80 plus degree temps in the pool (often til midnight.)
Thank you for your artistic vision, your meticulous sense of maintenance and style and, most importantly for letting others share in your vision of a true get away and escape. We will be back!
