Living in southern California, our family has always enjoyed outdoor activities at the Beach, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, Nature, and hiking. Our interests then were a perfect fit to purchase a home at the beach in Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula. Our favorite beaches near us in the Osa Peninsula are Playa Ballena, Playa Ventanas, and Playa Hermosa. Also our favorite restaurants are La Fogata in Uvita and Exotica in Ojochal.
CeCi purchased this cabin in 2006
Casita Kristina Maria is located in the Uvita area in a private, gated eco-community, and protected wildlife reserve. It is an ideal setting for viewing the flora and fauna of more than 100 acres of primary and secondary Rain forest, streams, waterfalls, and hiking trails.
The Casita is surrounded by the rain forest jungle. Relax to the sound of the creek babbling through rain forest. You'll be lulled to sleep by croaking frogs and the sounds of the jungle at night. Awaken to the distinct roar of howler monkeys as they traverse through the jungle, and the squawking of green parrots flying overhead . When the surf is big, you can sometimes hear the waves crashing on the beach.
Included in the rental is access to our Beach Club. The Beach Club has a beach side restaurant, bar, swimming pool, restroom facilities, shower, free beach parking, and a palm-lined trail to the beach. It is a beautiful tropical beach with views of Tres Hermanas rocks and Isla de Cano. The ocean water temperature is a warm 80-88 degrees year-round. Monkeys and scarlet macaws are often sighted in the trees surrounding the beach.
The casita was perfect! Overlooking the ocean set atop a mountain jungle. Make sure to rent a 4x4. The trek up is fun! Claire was so helpful and so sweet I couldn't have asked for a better hostess.
This little casita and all its surroundings were perfection to us. We had read all the glowing reviews before booking, but it is always a leap of faith to travel thousands of miles to a new destination. Everything the other guests had written is true, but words can't capture the breathtaking view, the lovely scents and exotic sounds, and the utter tranquility of this place. Do come here, do absorb all the sights and sounds of each dawn and dusk, do relax on the beach club beach (which we had almost exclusively to ourselves in the mornings), do bring light weight clothes (it's hot!), and do luxuriate in the villa pool if no one is renting it:)! We balanced our time between relaxing and fabulous outings. We highly recommend the Osa peninsula zip line tour, the Corcovada National park guided tour with boat ride, and the horseback ride to Nauyaca Falls. LOVED it all!!!!
A beautiful property in one of the few parts of the Costa Rican coast to remain pristine. We first passed through 25 years ago, when from Jaco south was a stretch of spine juddering potholes. Now you have a smooth paved road all the way to Uvita.
Claire's instructions are precise and detailed - but - if possible - do not do justice to the location. The turnoff to the gated property is now marked by red & white reflective stakes. Take Claire's advice regarding rental of a 4WD vehicle. There are a couple of short stretches that are steep but otherwise it is an interesting climb that can be taken easily, although I'd suggest caution if you arrive after sunset as we did - the road can be a little daunting the first time you take it in the dark. Suzanne described the road to a Tico waiter who gave a shrug and said "it is what it is" - putting the balance between the drive and the end location perfectly in the Pura Vida philosophy! The Casita itself sits in a notch cut out of the jungle - and with the cultivation and the gardens around, you feel totally a part of the green world surrounding you.
I'm not sure which woke us first each morning, Venus and the sun rising over the trees to the left, or the local howler monkeys (who seem to be lazy by Tico standards because they don't start calling until a civilized 5:00am.)
A good alarm clock, so one can enjoy the spectacular views of Playa Ballena and the islands some 600-700 feet below with the first coffee of the day. The tree overhanging the Casita has regular visits from Toucans, and a resident population of cicadas to provide the visual and sound background to lazy hours on the porch.
Claire has the Casita equipped very well for some self catering (although there are so many great restaurants in the area to choose from self catering was mostly limited to breakfast.) Try Porque No! in Dominicalito, Cliff & Ana's Ballena Beach Club, the Fogata in Uvita (lovely Tico staff, great pizza). Suzanne slipped on ice and badly sprained her ankle the day before we flew down, but we had no real difficulty getting around, so I would be quite comfortable recommending the location to reasonably fit senior citizens like us.
Feeling so lucky to have found this perfect little Casita for our first trip to Costa Rica!! A true paradise for a nature lover who likes to avoid the big crowds. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of wildlife in the mountain-side jungle and the views of the ocean - it is just simply spectacular! It made the perfect get away spot for us to explore from each day and retreat to each night. The Casita is so well designed and was spotlessly prepared and perfectly equipped with everything we needed. The property managers pay attention to every detail and were lovely to deal with - as were the owners during the booking and preparation for our trip. We are truly grateful for our time living in your beautiful spot and hope to be back for longer next time.
My husband and I spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica. The first week was at this wonderful home in the jungle. We had the peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We enjoyed listening to the wildlife and watching all the wildlife around us. The toucans would come every morning in the tree in front of the Casita. Then more birds would start coming. The first morning we woke up there was a male "Jesus Christ" lizard on the tree. Absolutely beautiful! The home has everything you need! Even a few books to read up on the types of visitors you'll see to all the different plants around you. You definitely need to stop and pick up a few groceries before you go up to the Casita. We did some cooking up there and they had everything we needed! If you want a great place for a coffee or something to eat, we recommend "The Baker Bean". Great pizza! We will definitely be back!
La casita is just wonderful, comfortable and very clean. If you are looking for tranquility....this is the place. When the owners say to arrive in the daylight....they are not kidding! We were waylaid at the airport and arrived in the pitch black and that was an adventure navigating the roads and driveway! Wonderful spot and we will return!
ATV tours available.
