I am born and raised in Iceland. Live in the Reykjavik area. The Lake house has been my vacation home for 10 years. Me and my family have spend most weekends and holidays there since we bought the land and built the house.
Signy Eiriksdottir purchased this house in 2003
This is the perfect vacation home to us frequently since the access is all year and the drive from the city is only 45 minutes. The access to the lake and the beach and the view of the mountains is the main attraction. The high trees surrounding the house gives it an extra privacy and shelter from any wind. Its really something you don´t get in many places in Iceland.
All main tourist attractions of South Iceland are within an easy drive, half day or whole day. Restaurants, golf, hiking, horsebackriding, pools and spa in the surrounding area.
We knew from the pictures that we could expect a truly wonderful house but the actual experience was even better! Nothing can prepare you for that first view from the extensive patio windows - a view that changes with each hour of the day. It is a magnificent house and Signy's impeccable taste made us want to throw out everything in our own house back in the UK and start again! The hot tub is fantastic and made a magical setting for the northern lights. The kitchen and lounge were beautiful and the bedrooms the same. Added touches such as the robes and slippers made our stay really comfortable. It was difficult to tear ourselves away but it is an excellent base for exploring Iceland. Selfoss is fine for supermarkets and has a good bakery- and also has an excellent restaurant ( Tryggvaskali) which is well worth a visit.
Signy was really helpful and has really made a beautiful house into a fantastic home. Thank you!
We cannot even begin to express how amazed we were of how beautiful, efficient and luxurious this Mountainview Lakehouse was to us. The actual home's decor, layout and ambience were above and beyond what we expected. It was the start to our honeymoon and our 1st time in Iceland. Signy greeted us with flowers, a bottle of champagne and chocolates which was unexpected and really sweet. Our time at this home will forever be an unforgettable experience. The hot pot, that kitchen!..the views, the robes and all of the other wonderful amenities this home brought to us. Running up the driveway in the snow out to the street to witness the Northern Lights, which Signy texted us to look that they were in the sky was amazing.
Thank you Thank you Thank you, we wish we would have stayed longer. We will return...without question.
My family consisting of 6 adults , three children ages 3, 5, 9 stayed at the lake house and loved every minute of the stay. It was perfect for adults and chidlren. The chldren loved the play house complete with small furniture and the little electric cars; the adults loved the infinity jacuzzi and the spacious area for dining, relaxing and cooking wonderful meals. The layout of the house provided a spectacular view but the back side was dark enough to sleep soundly even though it was light for 23 + hours. It was close to a little town with a grocery store. The lake was beautiful and the view spectacular. The house was clean and came with linens and a fully set up kitchen. We loved the amenities, decor, and hospitality of the family who owned the house. We wish it were closer to Massachusetts so that we could return for another week. The house is close to many major natural sights such as the geyser, Gulfloss, The Blue Lagoon , many waterfalls, Viking artifacts, the tip of the glacier, Icelandic horses, a geothermal river that most of the adults hiked up to for a swim, and Reykjavik. We all loved riding the Icelandic horses. Children and adults all had a wonderful time. We wished we had more time to explore more! Thanks!

The vrbo houses that I've enjoyed the most are those which are also the owner's second home. Every fixture and detail is of the highest quality. This is certainly one of these houses, designed for maximum comfort and enjoyment. It's close to many of Iceland's most beautiful sites, including the Golden Circle and the southern waterfalls. After a day of adventure, we (4 couples) would retreat to the hot tub to relax with a drink and enjoy the view of the lake and mountain. Kitchen and grill were great for making dinners. Nice fireplace inside and fire pit outside to take off the chill. 10 minute drive to Selfoss for provisioning. Signy was easy to work with. I highly recommend this house.
This fabulous lakehouse was even more impressive than the pictures! The location is perfectly situated close of the Golden Circle and easy access to the beautiful southern coast waterfalls and spectacular scenery. Signy was excellent to work with and very helpful in creating a perfect family trip. The infinity pool was amazing and since it never gets dark in June we could enjoy the beautiful view anytime after a daily tour of the sights. We totally enjoyed this "slice of heaven" and recommend that you get your reservation as early as possible since this house books fast!
We spent five nights at Signy's wonderful home this past December. Everything was perfect. We particularly loved the lakefront view and watching a spectacular display of Northern lights from the patio. Comfortable (luxurious), clean, and well appointed, the home is only a short drive from the town of Árborg/Selfoss. It was a break base to explore Iceland's outdoor adventures, but still only 45min drive from Reykjavik.
Lakefront property with a breathtaking view over lake and mountains. Lots of activities and attractions in the area. Nearest town is 10 min drive with all basic services such as restaurants, grocery shopping, pool, spa etc.
