About Bill UpNorth...

I relocated from a busy Metro area to beautiful Leelanau County with the dream of providing couples and families with clean and comfortable lodging that was affordable.

Being an 'Innkeeper' and seeing smiles on our guests faces year after year is very rewarding to us, especially when you hear a child ask their parents 'can we come back to the Cottage next year?'

Bill UpNorth... purchased this chateau / country house in 1994

Why Bill UpNorth... chose Michigan

We are situated in the heart of one of the most magnificent areas. When I found our 'Hobby Farm' included was what once was a 100+ year-old Granary. I visualized a comfy Country Guesthouse for travelers in Spring, Summer & Fall that was centered in our magnificent Leelanau County.

After a complete renovation and more than 18-months of hard work, LEELANAU COUNTRY COTTAGE accommodated their first guests receiving many compliments.

We have since welcomed Tourists locally and far away, Winery Touring guests, many bicycle enthusiasts and even folks from Europe wishing to see the splendor of our area.

Folks from all around bring their bicycles to enjoy riding on The Leelanau Trail which is inter-connected to the many TART Trails that run through our region. You can be a casual rider or an avid cyclist and find the scenery and winding Trail is breathtaking, pleasant and maintained for everyone's use.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

We are close to 8+ Wineries and Tasting Rooms, immediately adjacent to the fresh pavement of THE LEELANAU TRAIL and just minutes away from 'postcard perfect' freshwater beaches.

We WILL re-book with alternative visiting dates upon 'reasonable' notice. While we strive for efficiency, IF we make a mistake in any reservation, we will be liable for amounts that we received as a prepaid deposit only. We will make every effort to re-book your stay with alternative dates at no additional charge.

Beautiful seclusion

  • 4 of 5

This place was a very pleasant surprise. Perfect location. Everything was there that we needed for the most part my only suggestions are to bring your own pillows. There is no air conditioning but we were provided with plenty of fans and with the windows open it was perfect

Owner's Response: Greetings and Thank You for your support. As you can imagine, it is difficult to have one set of pillows that suits so many visitors, but lease know that once again we will update anything as may be needed. It was good to meet you all and we are very happy that you enjoyed our area and all it has to offer visitors. You are always welcome here and we thank you for your kind patronage. My best, Bill UpNorth...

Peaceful Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was quaint and roomy and had everything we needed. It would be great for a family and children with the nice loft area. We would like to bring ours back. Great location for bike trails. A drive to Sutton's Bay is required and we loved Sutton's Bay and the other communities. Bill was a great host and recommended wonderful places to dine and explore. He left many brochures to look through and we found useful information in them. We didn't use the outdoor area at the cottage except to eat on the deck which was nice in the mornings. The fire pit and outdoor table/grill would be nice to use with our kids in a future visit.

Leelanau Country Cottage

  • 4 of 5

I stayed at the Leelanau Country Cottage in September for a long weekend to bike ride with my husband and a friend.

The cottage is right next to the bike trail and only three miles from Suttons Bay making it a great location. It was comfortable and quiet. We had plenty of room to spread out and relax. The owner was very friendly. We all agreed that we would stay there again if in the area.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

This cottage was in a great location. It was convenient to Sleeping Bear Dunes and all of the Leelanau area. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. He had a lot of great suggestions of places to go and see, also tips for dining and wineries. It was very quiet and comfortable and right next to bike path.

Owner's Response: It was great to meet your group! This upcoming 2015 season should bring even better comforts as our 'projects' reach completion. The barn foundation area will be comfortable with a new firepit idea that will allow a calm feeling with a unique ambiance. We have folks planning next year and hope you will be a part of it in our great area! Have a great Fall & Holiday season coming too soon. Bill UpNorth...

Excellent, clean and comfortable accomodations!

  • 5 of 5

The owner expressed his aim to make this a family friendly cottage, and it surely was! The cottage was clean and charming and well suited for our family get away. We made use of the adjacent bike trails, nearby beaches and the lovely yard for sitting out in the evening for drinks and conversation. Kids loved the fire pit for s'mores. Our family highly recommends this lovely cottage and friendly owner.

Owner's Response: You had quite a group and I worried that you needed more in the way of accommodations but I see that everything worked out well for you. THANK YOU! It is a pleasure to see families group together and also to use The Leelanau Trail, a terrific resource right at the end of the driveway! You are always welcome here and I hope that you returned to your homes rested and feeling good about your time in Leelanau County. Have a great Autumn! Bill UpNorth...
