Matagorda Beach is on a barrier island on the middle coast of Texas. The Gulf of Mexico and the beach with fishing, surfing, swimming, and beach combing are a five minute walk over the dunes from the beach house. East and West Matagorda Bays are visible from the house. Because of the abundance of habitat for birds, the area usually has the greatest number of bird species in the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Fishing, both inshore and offshore, is legendary. There are many kayaking fishing launch spots within minutes of the house.
Directions from Bay City: Take highway 60 south to Matagorda. Turn left onto FM 2031 at Stanley’s Grocery Store. Go 7 miles until you see the LCRA Recreational Vehicle Park on the right. Shortly past a sign that says “Road Ends 1500 Feet” you will see Beach Front Drive, turn left. Number 462 is half way down on the right.
Features of the house:
• Large covered deck on the first floor and small covered deck on the second floor offering the best view of Matagorda Beach in Matagorda.
• Three bedrooms: The upstairs bedroom has a queen sized bed and two single beds. Guests using the upstairs bed can watch the sun rise over the ocean from their bed. Downstairs bedrooms: One bedroom has two single beds. The second bedroom has a full-sized bed. Sheets and towels are included.
• Two bathrooms: One upstairs and one downstairs.
• Washer and dryer.
• Fully equipped kitchen.
• Covered and screened deck area with a gas grill just outside the kitchen door.
• An outside shower and clothesline.
• Parking for two vehicles and a boat and truck.
• Living room/dining area with seating at the table for 6 (you can squeeze in 8). Two couches and a comfortable chair.
• TV, DVD, stereo
• Wireless internet.
• Central air conditioning and heat.
The house sleeps 8 people, and 8 is the maximum number of people that we will accept. No pets. No smoking. Check in after 4 p.m. and check out by 12 noon.
This Matagorda beach house is owned and rented by Mike and Janet Price. They use the house frequently and try to keep everything working properly. Mike and Janet are birdwatchers, beachcombers, inshore, offshore, and kayak fishermen and scuba divers. They are happy to share information about Matagorda’s bountiful coastal nature. Mike is an outdoor writer and photographer.

We bought the property because we love to sit on the deck and watch the ever changing ocean and because we like bird watching, kayaking and fishing.
The most unique benefit of a stay at our house is: We personally inspect and clean the house, therefore it is clean and functional.

The property was clean, well maintained and easy to find. Owners responded timely to all our questions. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils we needed, plus more. Very comfortable place to stay and would recommend to our friends. We never had any problems, so never needed to call owners after we arrived.
The house was located in a nice little neighborhood with a short walking distance to the beach. A well maintained path to the beach is located right off the property. You will want to take all your beach items with you because of the distance to beach.
We visited the Nature Center located on the main drive just outside of neighborhood. Good place to visit.They were very knowledgeable on the plant and animal life in the area and was designed to provide a learning experience for children. We also call Matagorda Adventures and they delivered and picked up Kayaks for us to enjoy the wetlands. They made sure we got into the water safety and provided a nice spray of fresh water when we returned at the pickup point.
The grocery store is very small, so I would suggest stopping before getting to Matagorda. Make sure when you plan on eating out at the local restaurants they are open. One evening we decided to eat out and restaurants were closed, but found Billy's Seafood and Bait shop still open. They had fresh shrimp and fish and we grilled at the property.
Just back from Matagorda. My family and I had a great time. House was spacious, comfortable. Accommodated well a family of two adults, two teenagers and a children. Quiet spot and proximity to the beach a major plus. Just bring your. Groceries and chef, kitchen is well equipped. Will be back
This place and the owners were great. It was just the right size for our family. It had everything we needed and is just a short walk across the dunes to the beach. We loved the fact that it had a Keurig (it's the little things :) ) and was very nicely decorated. I highly suggest grabbing a cup of coffee and watching the sunrise from one of the decks or cooking out in the evening and watching the sunset from the lower deck. Highly recommend this place.
The beach house, 462 Beach Front Drive, is on a barrier island seven miles from the mainland on a road that goes along the Colorado River. It is accessible by car and has all the amenity's of most modern houses, but it really feels like a natural wonder land with the Gulf of Mexico visible from both decks, dunes with flowers, butterflies, and birds, fishing in the Gulf and the bays, and the ever changing surf.
