Spend the month, week or weekend in a beautiful rustic converted barn on 6.5 very private sunny country acres with southerly long-range views of Mt. Anthony and the Bennington Monument (Stays of 2 or more weeks are progressively discounted depending on the length of the stay). Wander the park-like trails through 4 acres of old apple orchard and woodland. Why get a bed and breakfast when you can have a house and land all to yourself? This vacation rental is located in southwestern Vermont, less than 12 minutes from downtown Bennington (but still feels very quiet and secluded). Pick apples, bird-watch, and view other wildlife like deer, grouse, wild turkeys, rabbits, and an occasional black bear that wanders through the property. Excellent fly fishing on the nearby Battenkill river. Attend the summer horse shows in nearby Manchester. Enjoy the world-famous Vermont fall foliage. Watch the flowers bloom in the spring. Enjoy a bon-fire in the back-yard. Five major ski areas are located within an hour's drive. House is fully furnished and has slate shower, bear-claw bath tub, gas cooking stove, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, cable, DVD/VCR, and wireless internet, plus two wood stoves and free wood to keep you warm at night (There's also central air heating and a portable air-conditioner if needed). There's a large downstairs master bedroom with its own gas stove/fireplace for ambiance and extra heat. There is a living room, dining area, and another small room that could sleep 2 with large electric blowup mattress on site. A spiral staircase leads up to a large loft with a full-sized spring mattress futon. There's also a love seat that pulls out into a double size bed. The barnhouse was actually part of a large picturesque Vermont farm just up the dirt road (and view-able from parts of the property) until it was rolled down on logs and converted into a house some years ago.
*** Although the website lists my cancellation policy as "no refund" this is not quite true (It's just that none of the other options I was given matched my actual cancellation policy). Please refer to the "Generic Rental Agreement" pdf that you will be able to view once you start the booking process (and must agree to before making payment) for details on my cancellation policy.

Cozy, well equipped and lovely.
A wonderful home in a gorgeously restored barn. Very well equipped with all our needs, great layout and lovely private area. The yard was great with pathways and sitting areas, the house clean, cozy and thoughtfully designed. We loved taking advantage of the rest and restoration it provided. Also a wonderful hike/walk down the road at the Robert Frost House and so much Amish goodness at the Market at the end of the road. Great place.
We loved our stay at this special place in Vermont!
My husband and our 2 labs had a wonderful long weekend at this perfect place in Vermont. The house is both rustic and beautiful. There are no close neighbors so you have your privacy. The wood stove works great and after outside activities in the snow if felt great to sit in the living room with the wood stove and a glass of wine. Lars responded very quickly when I had a question and then followed up the next day to make sure we had everything we needed. There are several walking trails near by and great breweries and restaurants in a short drive. We will be going back and I recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from it all.
This is your vacation spot !
What other location have you seen on VRBO or Home Away, that has 59 out of 60, 5 stars in customer reviews ( to date ) ? ( There is one with a four star rating - always one spoiler ! )
The reviews, the pictures, they are all accurate. If you still have any doubts, call or text Lars directly - he is most helpful and accommodating. Our time at the Barn was perfect. What we needed was rest, exercise with walks, reading and good meals. Thank you Lars and Kristen for creating such a comfortable retreat home. We will return ! THE PLACE IS SIMPLY AMAZING
This place is beautiful, convenient, rustic, but modern so if you need to stay connected with modern world you can, plus full kitchen if you don’t feel like getting take out every day. It’s very private with plenty of places around the barn to relax in nice weather. My 7 year old prefers hotels for whatever reason, but he actually cried on the last day and begged us to stay longer. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Lars is extremely helpful, responded to every question we had. Place is easy to find. We used to stay somewhere else in Vermont for many years, but the owners retired and don’t rent the cabin anymore so we were looking for a new place and we’ve found it. We wouldn’t want stay anywhere else and we can’t wait for our next stay in this beautiful place. We could write a novel about everything, that’s how satisfied we were. Every place has something left to desire, but not this place.
We really loved this house
This house was even more beautiful than the pictures show! My husband and I were looking for a peaceful place to go for a couple days and this property was great. We really enjoyed sitting in front of a nice fire and our dogs loved running the trails around the house. It was a perfect getaway!
A winter wonderland with breathtaking views that pictures do no justice. The barn is rustic and cozy
We rent a different place for New Years every year as a tradition and this place was our favorite by far. The ambience is cozy and warm and the work that went into this place speaks for itself. Even having a 6 month old with us for the first time did not at all effect the romance and relaxation of it all. We honestly could not have asked for anything more here. We even took away some decorating ideas to bring home with us! You will absolutely get the Vermont mountain outdoorsy feel and only be less than 10 miles away from a cute eclectic friendly downtown! Lars is more than accommodating and quick to respond . We will definitely be back again!!
