About Valerie Evans
We are a California couple who purchased this condo when our three kids were very small...spent our summers living here for years. We just loved the beautiful uncrowded beach, and the laid back lifestyle here. Kids are grown, and now we travel every chance we get. We live near San Luis Obisbo, CA. Valerie is a Flight Attendant out of San Francisco.
Valerie Evans purchased this Condo in 2008
Why Valerie Evans chose San José del Cabo
We love the small size of El Zalate, less like a hotel and more like a home! The grounds are beautiful, and we have everything we need right here, with none of the crowds and loud parties... We have traveled extensively throughout Mexico and have found no better place.
What makes this Condo unique
Our condo is a penthouse, so it has vaulted ceilings and skylights. We also have about 300+ extra square feet inside, so we can have a full dining both inside and out. We are technically an end unit, and have nothing above us so it's private, and quiet. It was a model (show) home so all the furnishing were custom made for this condo by Atlantis House. It's just beautiful.

A little slice of heaven in San Jose Del Cabo
We have mixed feelings about the Los Cabos area, but not about Valerie's condo or El Zalate! The place was absolutely wonderful. The pictures really don't do it justice. It is comfortable, clean, and a great home away from home. The condo itself is furnished nicely and had everything we needed. We appreciated that there was an assortment of beach stuff (umbrella, beach towels, snorkeling gear, coolers). We loved the pools, and the beach was beautiful even if you couldn't swim there. Valerie responded to all of our emails and requests in a timely manner. Her communication was top-notch, honestly the best that we've experienced in any of the vacation rentals that we've stayed at. She was incredibly accommodating when our trip had to be delayed by a few days due to Hurricane Lorena, she went above and beyond to ease our displeasure when the elevator was out for the first 4 days of our trip, and answered any questions we had. The security guards were all friendly, especially Cirilo, and made you feel safe without creating the feeling that safety is even an issue, if that makes any sense. The grounds of El Zalate are very well-maintained, and did I mention the pools? They were like bath water, which we loved. The only downside is that the hot tub was not functioning while we were there. The view from the condo is breathtaking, and we spent the majority of our time at the condo on the patio listening to the crashing waves and relaxing. We only utilized one bed, but it was comfortable. We cannot recommend this condo enough or commend Valerie enough for excellent customer service. If you're thinking about staying here, just do it. You won't regret it!
Awsome views and a beautiful place. Practically had the whole beach to ourselves and the water was nice and refreshing. Only thing i didn't get was why they heated the pool?? it was so HOT with it being summer in mexico that the water would have felt more refreshing a few degrees cooler. Elevator was broke the whole time we were there which was a bummer, but pretty sure i lost a few pounds. Peaceful place, beautiful views and great location ;)
Thank you for a lovely review! The pools are really not heated in the summer - it’s just the heat from the sun that warms the water...but I know they feel heated!
Thankfully the Elevator issue has been fixed. It was a voltage problem affecting most of Baja. Glad you opted to go ahead and stay despite the inconvenience.
Glad you enjoyed your stay- come back anytime!
Lovely Condo on the beach
The property was well maintained and very comfortable. the deck seating area overlooking the pool was excellent. the bbq grille very handy for cooking dinner. thank you so much. look forward to staying here again.
So glad you enjoyed your stay - please come back anytime!
Penthouse with Amazing Views
We had a wonderful stay at this property. Everything was clean and tidy, beautiful furnishings and details. We loooved the patio - we spent many hours relaxing, barbecuing and eating out there. We basically had the pool area to ourselves every day and the pools were all sparkling clean. If we wanted a change of pace, we walked out to the beach from the pool area and on either side of us were resorts with lots of people and places to eat. Then back to our quiet paradise!
We prearranged a shuttle service to and from the airport. We used Uber for day trips and it was very reasonable and quick. We stocked up on groceries at La Comer and they had everything you could want! It was a short Uber ride down the street.
We enjoyed trips to Flora Farms for lunch (make reservations), horseback riding on the beach, catamaran snorkeling, the Thursday evening art walk in San Jose del Cabo’s Old Town, and quite a few trips for seafood meals at Taqueria Rossy and El Toro Guero (yum!).
We also had a fun meal next door at Mamma Mia’s (at the Worldmark Coral Baja) restaurant on the beach and a free evening show. This resort also had free lawn games (ping pong, cornhole, shuffleboard, Jenga, ...).
The condo has beach towels, toys, and even a selection of hats! We had a relaxing, amazing time and would love to return one day!
The condo was all it advertised and MORE!
Everything went as planned and Valerie thought of pretty much of anything we would need....and we very responsive.
We had never been to Mexico before and when my husband said let’s go I got a bit anxious. I wanted to make the arrangements for where we’d stay so after much research I decided on Valerie ‘s home. It’s in a perfect location the view from the patio is amazing. If we were not out and about or not in the pool or playing in the ocean we were on the deck. We pretty much just lived out there. I will make a few comments because a few of the posts we found very helpful. We used Andele (Uber) to and from the Airport. We had the same wonderful driver (Humberto). Very easy and very safe. We either walked or took the bus, also very easy and safe and very inexpensive. One post said you could walk 20 minutes down the beach to the art district area. No way!! It’s much much farther away than a 20 minute walk. More like 90 minutes. The absolute best place to eat was “The Office” in San Lucas. A restaurant on the beach OMG so good! Try the chocolate cream brûlée if you save room.Died and went to heaven. Last I have to say Valerie is so accommodating and such a sweetie. We got very chatty with the residents and guards . Every one made us feel apart of the community . The perfect place to stay! We will be coming back and booking here!
Thank you!! I’m so happy you had a great time, and you are welcome back anytime!!
Other Activities: SCUBA at Cabo Pulmo! The Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park is located about 40 miles north of San Jose del Cabo on the eastern cape of Baja, 'the interactive peninsula'. The abundant coral growth on the rocky reefs provides shelter and food for countless colorful reef fishes, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. The marine boundaries are Bahia Las Barracas to the north and Bahia Los Frailes to the south, encompassing approximately 7,111 hectares. This nutrient rich water results in a profusion of plankton that forms the base of a vast food web of invertebrates, fishes, birds and mammals making the Sea of Cortez one of the most productive waters in the world. The reef is the only hard coral reef found in the Sea of Cortez formed by multi-fingers and lies in 18 meters of water. It is one of only three living reefs in North America. A Mexican fishing vessel (the Colima), sunk during a storm in 1939.
We provide snorkels and pool floats! Beach chairs and toys!
